Chapter 90 Trap and Kill

(The New Gamma POV)

After the Gamma was taken prisoner by the daughter of Adella, I was instated by The Rogue Lord as his new Gamma. I have always wanted to prove myself to The Rogue Lord and this was an opportunity to do just that.

I knew I would never be able get the position of Beta. After the news of the death of the High Elder spread, Maximus was seen as a hero among the wolves of the Rogue Army. However, one can dream. After I have exterminated both Dark Moon and Crescent Moon, I will become a celebrated war hero and become the favorite of The Rogue Lord. I will be given gold and diamonds and a territory of my own to rule. Maybe even the rank of Beta.

"Are the men ready, Master Gray?" I asked my right hand man. We have been camped near the border of the territory of Dark Moon, the pack of the formidable Alpha Alexander Ulrich. We knew the daughter of Adella was not at the territory. She flew in a helicopter towards the fortress this afternoon.

"Yes, Sire. All have shifted to their wolf form." Master Gray answered.

"We will attack 10 minutes before the final phase of the alignment to distract them from the impending death of the daughter of Adella. They will surely be weak after the poison we have added in their water." We could not see through the protection charm of the territory, but no one knew of the plan to poison the wolves except the wolves within the ranks.

"Are you sure, Sire? We are ordered to attack once the alignment is complete. If we attack prematurely, we may fail." Master Gray obviously had doubts attacking Dark Moon before the alignment.

"As I had said, they will be weak from the wolfsbane we added in their water. It would be better if we attack ahead of schedule. Their attention is at the fortress and the alignment. We may be able to catch them by surprise."

"Very well, Sire.  By the way, Sire, the werecoyote has shown me a hole in the protection barrier. We will enter through there." He informs me.

A werecoyote named Malcolm had asked to speak with me. His territory was near Dark Moon and he wanted to forge an alliance to spare his pack from bloodshed. I agreed as long as he could find us a way into the territory. Astonishing enough, he delivered.

"Where is it? The break in the protection barrier?" I ask Master Gray.

"Due north, Sire. 1 click away. Between a patch of bushes."

"Good. Let us approach the entrance to the territory now." I shift into my wolf form. I was not as big as the former Gamma, but I was still bigger than the usual wolf and much more skilled in combat. I was confident I would bring my army to victory.

My army and I sprint due north towards the break of the protection charm.

"Sire, it is between those bushes." Master Gray mind links me.

I run through the bushes and enter the territory without any hindrance. My army follows, one by one entering the territory. I look ahead and I can see the lights of the mansion of the Dark Moon pack. My eyes narrowed. Finally, I can see you. I was about to sprint toward the bright lights of the mansion when I heard a voice.

"Help. I beg you. Help me." It was a faint cry for help. Strange. Who is that? I sniff the air. The scent was familiar.

"Help." There it is again. A call for help. I sniff the air trying to follow it to its source. It was coming from the huge sitka tree in the middle of a green pasture. I run towards the tree, my army close by.

"Help! My brothers. Help me!" The man's voice was oddly familiar, but I couldn't find the source of the voice.

" Look...up..." I looked up and there chained high above the tree was the former Gamma!

"Help me! I beg you. The silver is eating my skin." The former Gamma cries for help. The hair on my back stand up. It's a trap!

"Retreat! It's a trap!" I tell me army, but I was too late. Behind me, my army was being attacked by huge bears. The bears' long sharp claws sliced into the wolves and when they were down, the bears bit through their throats.

I ran, leaving my army behind. I head towards Crescent Moon. If I could not exterminate Dark Moon Pack, I could avenge my army by killing the parents of the daughter of Adella. Lucy, the ward of the Beta, informed The Rogue Lord the humans lived on the territory. Their deaths will be swift and vengeance will be mine.

I reached the creek that separates the two territories. I cross it, however I was magically brought back to where I started. I crossed again and the same thing happened. I decided to run the length of the creek and go around it when a voice behind me spoke.

"Where do you think you're going, coward?"

I wasn't able to turn around to see who spoke. Sharp claws had already dug a gaping hole in my back.

(Alexander POV)

"Alexander, that storm is going to take a while. I estimated around two thousand wolves in the compound. A thousand left in the direction of your territory, another thousand at Alarick's, and two thousand at Luciana's. She has the biggest pack so they sent more to her's. I guess The Rogue Lord wants to divide and conquer." Lucas was babbling which he normally doesn't do. He was clearly nervous.

I don't know what was happening inside The Rogue Lord's fortress, but outside, an immense lightning storm was happening. Bolts of lightning from the clouds above continously struck the compound. It was a spectacular sight from afar, however I could only imagine how deadly it was to be within the vicinity. White wisps of smoke rose in the air as the lightning hit its "targets" on the ground. It gave me the jitters thinking how painful it would be to be hit by a bolt of lightning.

"Just got a message from Oliver. The bears finished off the rogues that entered the territory. They caught one though trying to enter Crescent Moon. They're scouting the territory now to make sure it's clean."

"The army outside our territory attacked before the alignment?"

"I guess they wanted to catch us by surprise." Mark shrugged his shoulders. "Obviously, their plan didn't work. The bears have been itching to take them down since day 1."

"They didn't know about the werebears. Hope made sure they couldn't spy on us or extract any information from anyone on the inside." I told Mark.

Hope confiscated Lucy's phone and sent her to the evacuation site in Chelan under lock and key. George, on the other hand, insisted their was another traitor in my pack, a she-wolf named Nora. I asked Oliver if he knew anyone by that name and he said no. He checked our records and couldn't find a she-wolf named Nora. Hope asked George if he knew what she looked like to make sure it wasn't her Aunt Cecilia he was talking about. He told us all he knew was she was the Beta's informant and they see each other in the village. So, Hope asked Arthur to check Maximus' phone for any contact with the name Nora and make plans to meet with her. Arthur gave us the details of their secret rendezvous and we waited for her to come. We couldn't believe it when Elle showed up.

Elle's father was banished from our pack by my father for assaulting my mother. With nowhere to go, he joined the Rogue Army shortly after and has become a ranking wolf. Elle pleaded with us not to kill her. Hope decided to accept her plea, but she would have to stay in the dungeons.

Yuri, on the other hand, caught Malcolm trying to get in touch with rogues outside our territories. Yuri dragged Malcolm and practically threw him at my feet.

"Alpha Alexander, my man, I haven't done anything, I swear." Malcolm was kneeling at my feet, hands clasped together, begging.

"Then why were you lurking at their campsite?" Yuri asked, gently.

"I just wanted to tell them to leave me and my pack out of this war. Alexander, I have a pack to protect. I just don't want to get into any trouble. It took blood, sweat and tears to develop my territory. I don't think I have it in me to do it all over again." Malcolm hid his face in his hands and started to weep.

"Malcolm, stand up." I pull him up so he could stand. " I understand your predicament. But these are rogues and they always want something in return."

"I have something you can give them so, they won't bother your pack." Hope walks up to us from behind. "All you have to do is point them towards the right direction." She gave Malcolm a wink.

Hope and her improvising. Well,  seems like her plan back at the territory worked out. I pray their plan works here, too.

When the lightning finally stopped, I shifted to Echo and ran towards the fortress with the others behind me. I mind linked Mark to send some of our men to climb the walls into the compound to open the stone gates. We waited patiently for my men to scale the stone walls and open the gates. Once inside, we looked for survivors and killed anyone who moved.

I shifted back to human form and asked Mark for the time. "Alpha, a minute left. We need to brace ourselves for a blast of any kind."

"You're right. Let's take cover in the guard house. The rest can take cover outside. Make sure to watch out for any falling debris." I instructed everyone.

Moon Goddess, keep all of them ... safe.
