Chapter 10 My Ex-Husband Won't Go?
The next day, in the early morning...
Trista had just woken up when the nanny Nelly had arranged, Moira, arrived.
After exchanging greetings with Trista and seeing the two children, Moira couldn't help but compliment them. "Miss Bryant, your children are so beautiful. They're adorable."
Moody stood up and politely greeted. "Good morning, Moira."
Ruby also bowed.
Moira blushed at being called so sweetly and quickly offered to go to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
As a trained nanny, she knew how to cook various dishes and was skilled in making desserts.
After having breakfast, Trista admonished her two children. "You two must behave well at home. If there's anything, give me a call... I have to go to the office today, so you mustn't cause any mischief. Listen to Moira and don't wander around, understood?"
Moody felt a bit reluctant.
They hadn't spent enough time with Trista yet, but he immediately responded. "Yes, Mommy, we'll behave and won't cause any trouble."
Trista had some doubts since these two children were always restless.
However, Nelly came to pick her up, so she could only instruct Moira to keep an eye on them, and then she left.
In the morning, Trista briefly learned about the structure of the subsidiary company and met a few high-level executives before returning to the office with Nelly.
"I'm more suited to working behind the scenes..."
Trista sighed deeply, feeling a bit weary.
Dealing with people was harder for her than studying perfumes.
Nelly chuckled impolitely. "The esteemed Aletta, and yet you're socially anxious?"
Trista shrugged. "I just don't like socializing."
Nelly said, "What's the difference? Anyway, considering your situation, you'll have to change. This time, expanding the business in the country will require you to make appearances at many events."
Speaking of this, Trista straightened up, concerned. "Tell me about the current situation in the country."
Nelly nodded and got to the point. "You are the product developer for Zelin Company. Several top companies in the country are interested in partnering with us, including the five major families."
She paused for a moment, glanced at Trista, and added. "Including the Myers Group..."
Trista was extremely sensitive to the words Myers Group and immediately furrowed her brow. "I'm not considering the Myers Group."
Nelly nodded. "I know, so I declined from the beginning. The other four are also good, especially the Porter family. They have shown sincere interest.
"Mr. Porter, Benson Porter, is one of the most powerful men among the younger generation, and his reputation is no less than Matthew.
"He heard that you are coming back, and he sincerely invites you to attend the business banquet they are hosting tonight.
"I think, for Zelin Company, this is a great opportunity to establish connections domestically."
Before returning to the country, Trista had done some research on the domestic situation.
Since Nelly put it that way, she naturally wouldn't refuse. "Then I'll go."
"Great, I'll have someone prepare a formal dress. You'll attend tonight."
Nelly took out her phone and planned to inform her assistant to arrange a custom-made dress.
"My ex-husband... He won't be there, right?"
Trista asked uncertainly.
She still felt uneasy after the encounter with Matthew yesterday.
She didn't want to see Matthew again...
Nelly paused, looked up, and thought for a moment. "He probably won't."
"After all, the Porter family and the Myers family are business competitors, and their relationship is not that great."
Trista felt relieved after hearing that.
...
Vanny Villa...
After waking up, Matthew had breakfast with the two children.
The dining table was unusually quiet, with no one speaking.
The two children found it boring. Clearly, they were a family, yet even mealtime was so dull.
These days, they still believed in the idea of not talking while eating or not speaking while sleeping. It was really uncomfortable!
At this moment, Carey came to report. "Sir, Mrs. Myers and Miss Bryant are here."
Upon hearing this, Matthew hadn't spoken yet, but footsteps could be heard at the entrance.
Marilla entered first, still dressed elegantly with a well-preserved face full of charm.
"Oh, my precious Moody and Ruby!"
As soon as Marilla spotted the two kids, she quickened her pace and kept muttering under her breath, "I heard you ran away from home yesterday, and it took them quite a while to find you. You really frightened me!
"Let me see if you're injured or not!"
The two children didn't react and continued to enjoy their meal.
But in the next second, their bodies were suddenly lifted off the ground, and they were hugged tightly by Marilla. Eudora's mouth was even puffed up...
Marilla anxiously and carefully examined the two of them, making sure there were no major issues before finally letting out a sigh of relief. She spoke with deep concern. "Thank goodness you're fine. If something happened, what would I do..."
Matthew glanced at Marilla and noticed Myra coming in behind her. He furrowed his brows imperceptibly.
When Myra fell down the stairs and even knocked over a large vase, cutting the tendons in her leg, she still had a slight limp when walking even now.
She approached, glanced briefly at the two children, and then her gaze fell on Matthew.
Her eyes suddenly softened, revealing hidden admiration as she tenderly said, "Matthew."
Matthew looked at her coldly and said indifferently, "Why did you tell my mother about this?"
Myra's expression stiffened at his apathetic attitude.
Last night, being turned away at the door, she naturally felt unwilling, so she went to find Marilla.
In the face of his accusation, Myra quickly realized what was happening and immediately apologized. "I'm sorry. I accidentally let it slip when I went to see Marilla this morning. Matthew, please don't be angry."
Marilla released the two children, her tone carrying reproach as she addressed Matthew. "What do you blame Myra for? Isn't she just worried about the children? Is there something wrong with that?
"Speaking of this, I haven't scolded you yet. I've been advising you to settle down earlier. If there was a mistress in this house, my precious darlings wouldn't have run away from home!
"You don't even realize it yourself."
Marilla kept nagging at him. "It's because you're too busy. All you do is work, and you don't pay attention to the children. That's why they acted like that!"
Matthew elegantly continued eating, too lazy to argue with Marilla.
The two children had obviously run away because they disliked Myra.
