Chapter 9 Couldn't Do It
After eating, Trista returned to Maple Villa with Nelly.
The villa was sold to Trista by Nelly, and it had a serene and quiet environment, with pleasing greenery and an overall leaning toward a traditional garden style.
"So, what do you think of this place?"
As soon as they entered, Nelly asked for Trista's opinion.
"Satisfied."
Trista didn't have the mindset to appreciate it. She simply nodded and pushed her luggage inside the door.
"You're being dismissive!"
Nelly found it somewhat amusing.
The two of them were longtime close friends, and Nelly could tell that Trista had something on her mind.
"What's the matter? Since a while ago, I've noticed you being absent-minded."
Instead of answering directly, Trista turned to the two children beside her and said, "Darlings, go upstairs and choose your rooms. I'll help you tidy up later."
"Okay."
Moody, being mature for his age, understood that their Mommy wanted to talk to Nelly, so he grabbed Ruby's hand and went upstairs directly.
Once the children were gone, Trista finally talked to Nelly about what she saw in the restaurant, Matthew.
Whether it was their divorce in the past or their shared history, Nelly was aware of it all.
She couldn't help but exclaim, "What kind of fate is this? To meet on your first day back in the country."
Trista pursed her lips. "Meeting is not the issue. I'm afraid he'll find out about our two children."
Boris looked so much like Matthew. It was as if they were carved from the same mold.
If they were to meet, it would definitely be revealed!
Nelly hesitated and said, "Actually... I think even if they do meet, he might not recognize Boris and Eudora."
She looked at her dear friend with a sympathetic expression but didn't hide anything.
"There have been rumors for a while now saying that Matthew also has a pair of children. The Myers family dotes on them like treasures, protecting them well, rarely appearing in public. And the children's mother..."
Nelly watched Trista's expression closely, and seeing no change, she continued. "It's Myra!
"But it's strange too. After all these years, Matthew still hasn't married Myra. I don't know what's going on."
From her perspective as a friend, Nelly definitely didn't want to see Matthew marrying Myra.
She witnessed firsthand the pain her dear friend Trista went through during that marriage, and it hurt her deeply.
Trista's mind wandered a bit.
In truth, Trista wasn't as calm as Nelly perceived her to be.
Trista wondered. Matthew and Myra already have children.
Well, it was about time...
He was the most eager one when they divorced, all because of Myra.
Nelly patted Trista's shoulder, silently comforting her.
Trista smiled at her caring friend, Nelly.
"I'm fine. Those people are irrelevant. It's all in the past.
"He won't take the initiative to acknowledge the children, and that's for the best! I came back this time for work and didn't want to deal with such troublesome matters anymore!
"I'm a bit tired tonight. Let's not talk about it for now. Tomorrow, I'll go to the company with you, and you can update me on the situation."
"No problem."
Seeing that she didn't want to say more, Nelly changed the subject. "Beforehand, I found a nanny for you. I already messaged her, and she will find you tomorrow. This nanny is someone I brought from my own home. She's top-notch at cooking and taking care of children."
"Well, thank you."
Trista was grateful.
Nelly didn't chat any longer and quickly left.
Trista saw her friend off and then went upstairs to find the two children.
As Trista entered, Moody immediately obediently said, "Mommy."
Ruby didn't say anything. She just looked at Trista, her eyes sparkling.
Trista felt a bit worried and crouched down beside Ruby. "Is Eudora's throat not feeling better yet? She still can't speak?"
"Not yet."
Moody answered for Ruby.
Trista worriedly hugged Ruby in her arms and spoke in a soft voice. "Tell me, are you truly not feeling any discomfort?"
Ruby shook her head.
Trista was even more puzzled. "Then why did it suddenly happen like this?"
She thought back to what the children had eaten today, and there didn't seem to be any issues...
Afraid that Ruby would slip up, Moody said to Trista, "Mommy, I looked it up earlier. It's said online that some children may experience intermittent speechlessness due to environmental factors. Maybe that's the case with her."
Moody hadn't lied before, but as he said this, his palms started to sweat.
However, now that the words were out, he grew bolder as they went along.
"Mommy, we shouldn't force her into this situation. You're a doctor. You should understand. Let nature take its course, and maybe she'll get better once she's familiar with the environment here."
Trista listened and found his reasoning somewhat logical.
But as their mother, she couldn't help but worry.
She said to Ruby, "When we get back, let's have you checked at the hospital to make sure that everything is fine."
Ruby nodded, and Trista lifted her into her arms.
"It's getting late. Boris, go take a shower by yourself. Your clothes are in the suitcase. Get changed, and I'll help you both tidy up later. After you've showered, go straight to bed. I'll help Eudora wash up."
Moody had no objections to her arrangement.
However, it was his first time spending time with their Mommy, and he wanted to sleep with her.
Boris said that he and Eudora often slept with their Mommy.
Thinking about it, Moody couldn't help but grab Trista's clothes and say, "Mommy, tonight... Can I sleep with you?"
Moody blushed a bit as he said this.
Trista was slightly taken aback.
Her baby son rarely acted this way.
She guessed it was because of the new environment, and she felt happy.
She replied right away, "Of course, you can. After you finish showering, come find me, alright?"
"Okay."
Moody visibly brightened with happiness.
Later in the evening, both children finished their showers and lay in Trista's bed, wearing cute cartoon pajamas, looking irresistibly adorable.
Trista watched them and couldn't resist her tender feelings. She leaned down and kissed each of them on the forehead, smiling. "Goodnight, my darlings."
The two children blushed.
''Mommy... She kissed us and said goodnight.
Mommy smells so nice...''
The two children exchanged a glance and saw the joy in each other's eyes.
Moody pursed his lips and smiled. "Goodnight, Mommy."
After Trista fell asleep, the two of them kept rubbing against her body as if their lives depended on it. They were so obedient.
Trista lovingly embraced them, one on each side.
