Chapter 37
Inside the control room, they found various gleaming control panels and a wealth of information about the alien world's liaison. Jhonny observed the giant machine in the center of the room, feeling the strong vibrations of the energy source flowing inside.
"I'm going to shut down this system!" said Alice, rushing to the main control panel.
Jhonny nodded, preparing to help. "Come on, we don't have much time!"
Alice tried to crack the code to shut down the machine, but a loud noise from outside the door signaled that Michael had managed to find another way in.
"Alice, hurry!" shouted Jhonny, feeling the tension rising. He knew they had to act fast, or things would end badly.
Alice entered the final code and hit the button to shut down the machine. A crackling sound was heard as the machine began to shut down, emitting smoke and flashing lights.
"Come on!" exclaimed Jhonny, pulling Alice away from the panel that was shaking violently. They had to leave before all of this disintegrated before their eyes.
As the control room door swung open, Michael reappeared with an angry face. "You're not just going to leave!" he shouted, pointing a gun at them.
As Jhonny and Alice make their way through the maze of obstacles in their way, they feel the tension that pervades the dark underground room. The hum of machinery and vibrations from the sophisticated devices connected to the alien portal added to the eerie atmosphere. Jhonny tried to remain calm, though his heart was racing, ready for whatever was to come.
As they approached the control room door, a loud noise echoed through the room. Michael emerged from the darkness, weapon in hand, and a hateful glare. "You think you can stop me?" he cried, his eyes glistening with anger.
Alice was stunned for a moment, but Jhonny quickly took position, shielding Alice. "We won't let you continue with your plans, Michael!" shouted Jhonny, trying to focus his mind on the battle to come.
Michael opened fire, and Jhonny jumped, feeling the bullets combing the air beside him. Jhonny quickly returned fire, creating sparks when the bullet hit the wall. "Alice, hurry up! Go!" shouted Jhonny, distracting Michael so Alice could get to work.
Alice wasted no time. Determinedly, she tried to open access to the connective system. Behind the screen, she saw the shimmering codes, each second feeling like an hour. Meanwhile, Jhonny continued to fire at Michael, trying to prevent him from getting closer.
"You idiot, you don't know what you're doing!" shouted Michael, growing increasingly frustrated. "Without this device, everything will be destroyed!"
"Not destruction, but freedom!" retorted Jhonny, catching his breath amidst a flurry of gunfire.
Alice began to unravel the complex security system. Meanwhile, Michael was closing in, trying to find an opening to attack Jhonny. Alice could feel the pressure mounting. She knew their time was limited.
"Jhonny, I need time!" she shouted, her concentration focused on the screen. "I'm almost done!"
Amidst the noise of gunfire, Jhonny realized that this was a decisive fight. He watched Alice hopefully, encouraging her despite the danger.
The last shot from Jhonny managed to hit Michael's arm, making him stagger. "You won't win, Jhonny!" Michael shouted angrily, squeezing the trigger and pointing his gun at Alice.
"No!" Jhonny shouted, leaping forward, taking the bullet that was supposed to hit Alice. Pain shot through his body, but he fought on, trying to keep Michael from getting any closer.
Alice couldn't believe what she was seeing. "Jhonny!" her voice shrilled, panic enveloping her.
With all her courage, Alice focused her mind and returned to the screen. She saw the key to destroy the device. With one swift movement, she pressed the right button.
The seconds seemed to slow down as the screen showed "CONFIRM: DESTROY SYSTEM?" Before Michael could intervene, Alice shouted, "Yes!"
The system made a noise, and the lights flashed brightly. With a single explosion, the system connecting the human and alien worlds was destroyed, emitting a blinding light. The screams of the aliens waiting outside disappeared, as if sucked back into their world.
Shock struck Michael. "NO!" he shouted, his face turning white as he watched what was happening. "What are you doing?!"
Alice felt as if the world was spinning. "I'm not going to let you ruin everything!" she replied, angry and excited.
Michael didn't give up. He grabbed another weapon, preparing to attack. However, the pain and anger made him lose focus. Jhonny, though wounded, stood between Alice and Michael, moving his weapon with the desire to protect his loved ones.
"Now, Michael, it's over!" Jhonny exclaimed, fighting his pain. He fired his last bullet, striking Michael's gun and knocking him to the ground.
Michael's defeat was certain. He collapsed, a look of despair on his face. "You won't be able to stop this... I'll be back!" he shouted, before collapsing helplessly.
Alice and Jhonny looked at each other, feeling the weight lift off their shoulders. They both nodded, sensing the victory ahead of them. Alice approached Jhonny, extending a hand to help him up. "We did it... we really did it," she said, voice quivering with emotion.
Jhonny smiled, though his face looked tired. "Yes, we can end all this," he replied, feeling the strength between them.
After struggling to get up, they both stepped out of the basement, into the new light that awaited outside. This victory was the first step towards the freedom they desired, and they were determined to continue this fight together.
Not only were the two of them moved by this moment but also the people outside who witnessed it all.
There was a lot of confusion because none of the other Mutiiner groups besides The Jackal and MFH knew about the secret that all of this was Michael's creation. And they were shocked when they saw the aliens being wiped out because they had done nothing, while unbeknownst to them, there was a party that had fought for this, namely The Jackal.
There were cheers from the members of The Jackal who were very happy and proud of the victory they got. With the disappearance of the aliens, they finally knew that Alice and Jhonny had succeeded in defeating Michael in destroying these terrible devices.
They felt that the struggle they had made was not in vain And one more thing they felt was that they felt very grateful and also felt very guilty to Alice. Because it was thanks to that woman that they had the victory like now and they felt guilty for accusing Alice with accusations that really made Alice very hurt.
