11. Alyssa’s resolve
Eric shone like a God of beauty, all his features accentuated by the light penetrating through the window. The Alpha resembled a beautiful spirit of the otherworld who had manifested to make her life a lot more complicated. Whatever he could resemble was not of this Earth, and Alyssa felt entirely unworthy to be in his presence.
As her boss pulled back from the kiss, so abrupt and sudden that it scalded her. She could evaluate him in mere seconds, and though it had felt like a lifetime standing in front of him, the omega knew. It was nothing serious to him. The Alpha had simply passed over her without even a hint of interest as he roamed his eyes around nervously. Probably coming up with an excuse to make her feel even more shitty about herself.
Alyssa couldn’t help feeling the sharp sting of rejection, and she had to battle the worsening urge to drop to her knees and grovel for the Alpha’s undivided attention. That’s her inner omega talking. One kiss was all it took to unravel her wolf deepest desires. She wanted to be claimed, taken by him and bonded. Her neck burned with want and she tried not to let it show on her face.
Ever since she was young, Alyssa was able to exercise control. She could not submit to her omegas petty demands. That only made her transformation difficult but also her resolve stronger. She didn’t want her omega to control her urges and desires.
Alyssa settled to watch silently while Eric's unblinking gaze locked onto the wall behind her. The Alpha had suddenly gone quiet as if realisation dawned on him too. She heard a petrified gulp as he slowly and calmly turned towards her, his shoulders right.
The Alpha then straightened and took three complete and graceful steps in the direction of his chair, away from her.
Time seemed to stand still again as both were standing inches apart. Her breathing was caught in her throat as she stared at the Alpha.
Internally the omega was panicking; for the first time in her life, she hadn’t been able to hold her going against an Alpha—when she’s been doing that for years. The Omega was frantically searching her mind for a solution to this colossal problem. What possessed her to give in so easily? Did they have any special connection? Maybe they were mates? The last one made her stiffen like a tree. She inhaled deeply, flaring his nostrils at the thought. If they were mates, then there would have been a sign, anything to confirm their bond. Nothing happened so far.
As she felt Eric's eyes digging into her, she looked up and licked her lips nervously. The omega should try and get out of his office first. His presence was only affecting her thoughts.
“You should-“
“I should leave”
They both said in unison. The omega leaned in and squinted to get a closer look at his changed iris, but he quickly blinked, and it returned to its original colour. Whatever. The Omega was seething and very much wanted to respond to him cruelly. Why should she leave?! He was the one who couldn’t keep his anger at bay and kissed her senseless. Her lips stung as a harsh reminder that she let him overpower her. No words left her snarky mouth as she stared at him mutely.
“Yeah...” Eric mumbled thickly walking back to his chair.
The Alpha didn’t even bother turning around as she reached for the door. Her inner Omega was distraught over the Alpha’s cutting rejection and was desperately begging him to hold her back. Alyssa, on the other hand, was far too livid to keep silent any longer, which only made her get out of there.
As she walked back to her office, Alyssa realised how much she loathed and despised herself at that moment. She made the same mistake as the previous assistants and fell into his charm so quickly. How stupid! Shaking her head, she clenched her eyes shut and vowed she’d invariably do everything in her power to ensure that something like would never happen again. No matter what she will not go back to that Alpha.

The next morning Alyssa yawned rather loudly in the common area. She couldn't help it though. First off, it took her a lot of work to finish those damn papers Eric gave her. After that, when he kissed her, she suffered a sleepless night yesterday. The lack of sleep and dependence on coffee caught up to her.
Not to mention, the omega had no one to talk about her situation. It only made her curl up. So many different thoughts clouded her mind as she sat but no one to share. She cannot exactly tell her mother about the situation at work. Knowing her mother, she would ask Alyssa to quit the job.
She didn’t realise Paris was walking through the door. As a hand tugged on her wrist, she sat up, almost jumping in her seat.
Paris narrowed her eyes. “Everything okay?”
Alyssa sighed but nodded her head.
“You don’t look, alright. If there’s anything, you want to talk feel free” Paris warmly smiled.
The omega thought about it for a few seconds before she decided to tell her. Paris was the only one who didn’t hate her for working under three eligible Alphas.
She asked the beta to sit and started telling her.
“Did he use his hands to hold you there? Did he pin you?”
Mortified. She shook her head. The omega could have easily pushed him off, but she didn’t. Her hands covered her face.
“No! I didn’t even know it at first. I guess I think maybe...maybe I liked so I didn’t pull away. I don’t know!”
A tear slid down her cheek, but she quickly wiped it away.
Paris held her hand. “Hey...I need you to calm down now. It’s best for you to it put this behind you. Eric probably has a dinner date with some gorgeous woman tonight. He doesn’t care. Fucked up I know but that’s just how he functions. He isn’t likely to think one bit about what happened with you.”
Alyssa winced at those words. They stung, but she wasn’t stupid to think he meant that kiss at all. The omega was aware of his reputation all thanks to the Daily report newspaper. She saw him photographed twice with different omegas in a week.
The beta licked her lips. “I’ll tell you something that I hope will help you.”
“Sleeping with Eric was one of my goals. Pathetic right? Since he kept me around, I thought he loved me too but was too afraid to show it. Everyone hated and were jealous of me because he paid me attention.”
Alyssa widened her eyes. She couldn’t believe her ears. Paris wanted to sleep with Eric? But she acted so professionally around him.
“He dumped me after the very first night” Paris rolled her eyes. “I was too clingy. He set me straight, saying he never loved me. He just liked the aspect of sleeping with someone whenever he wanted even in work. It felt like a slap to my face. I was angry, obviously, but my work was important to me. Nicholas and Adrian respected me, and that’s all it mattered, so I decided not to quit my job. A week later, Eric found a new girl, and I moved on.”
The omega felt her mouth drop. “Wow...I’m sorry.”
Paris smiled. “I’m fine now. Don’t worry. I hope this helped. You are the first I truly like you, so don't get fired.”
With that, she walked off. When Alyssa couldn't hear the clacks of Paris heels on the floor, she leaned back, taking in all the new information. The omega let out a sigh. What did she get herself into?

A catcall whistle-like sound interrupted her train of thoughts. Blinking she tilted her head only to see Adrain leaning against the doorway with a smirk. He had a coffee mug in his hand.
“You're still here?” He joked, walking towards her with a lazy smile on his face.
She grinned. “What can I say? I’m not that easy to get rid of”
“For which I am very thankful” Adrian leaned against the counter, his body close to her.
Was he flirting with her? She thought blinking at the Alpha. He looked breathtaking up close. And gosh, what was wrong with her? Why can’t she stop fawning over the Alphas who are also her bosses?
“I kind of like having you around, Miss Rivers. You make the best coffee” Adrian chuckled.
“Good to know Mr Ferro.”
His lip curled in disgust. “Again with that? Is Nicholas the only one who gets called by his name? Did I do something wrong?”
The omega shyly shook her head.
“I don’t like it when you call me that. Makes me sound like I’m some fifty-year-old guy, you know?”
She laughed at his blatant use of sarcasm.
“Okay, Adrian point taken.”
He grinned. “That’s more like it.”
