43. Slow Dancing with Alyssa
Eric ignored the usual routine of small talk and catching up going on in between the group, instead choosing to sit on their assigned seats. Drinks were passed around, champagne of course because the most people were rich and pompous like that. Nothing new.
The Alpha still couldn't believe that he was with Alyssa. All alone. As in there were guests of course but in a sense, he didn't have to be surrounded by people of work, people who knew him. When he picked her up from her apartment, Eric didn't know what to expect.
While he was away for a week, all he could think was about going to the charity gala with his assistant. That got him through most of the nights.
He should probably be taking advantage of this opportunity by winning over the other businessmen present at the gala, but he couldn't be bothered to make an effort. The bidding would start in an hour or so. That's always how these galas go. It's about every other thing but charity. His attention was solely and wholly focused on the prettiest omega sat diagonally across from him.
Alyssa was dressed in a low black cut, deep V neck spaghetti strap bodycon, slit by her knees. It showed off her delicate collarbones and accentuated the curve of her body. Unlike having her hair in a bun, she had them cascading over her shoulder, touching her hips. They looked ethereal.
The smooth golden skin of her legs was put on display, along with her bare arms. She was mesmerizing. Eric had almost forgotten to what extent her beauty captivated him. The Alpha couldn't go ten seconds without glancing at her, seeing her sparkling blue eyes, tracing the curve of her cheekbones and throat, studying the flutter of her long eyelashes, and watching the way her soft, pink mouth opened before she took a sip of her drink. There was just something about the way her throat bobbed, veins prominent, and the flawless skin making him want to sink his teeth in.
Eric was drawn to everything- the curve of her perfectly done eyebrows, the angle of her jaw, the way her hair fell on her face.
Currently, they were seated at a table where Alyssa was observing everything with a child like excitement. It kind of was given it's her first time at a gala.
Before he could open his mouth, he noticed a familiar figure walk up to them. Suddenly his lips twitched at the person walking along with his omega.
"Oliver!"
His friend scoffed. “Glad you remember I exist.”
"Says the one who ditched me at the cigar bar! Who does that?"
His wife interrupted him. "Sorry, that's on me. I called him back."
Eric bobbed his head. What can he even say to that? She was heavily pregnant, so there's that. From the corner of his eyes, the Alpha noticed the couples getting on the dance floor. He immediately wanted to be up there with Alyssa.
"Oliver, let's go dance" His wife tugged at his friends arm. They quickly excused themselves to join the dance floor while he stood rooted.
Alyssa turned to him. "They are cute-"
"Dance with me," The Alpha interrupted.
He exhaled, not expecting himself just to blurt it out. It sounded so much better in his head. The omega blinked, mouth parting. He calmed the racing of his heart, willing his gaze not to wander to the wetness of her pink, soft lips.
"Uh...What?" Her voice had softened, and she looked suddenly very vulnerable and young.
"Dance with me," He repeated slowly, licking his lips. He noted that she instantly tracked the movement. "I want to dance... with you."
“I...” The omega started, and there was a flash of emotions too quick for him to decipher.
“Alright.” There was apparent hesitancy in her voice, but she had accepted. That meant something, right? Eric stood up and held out a hand to help her up. He ignored the sparks that flickered when she placed her smaller, daintier hand in his and stood up.
“Thank you” Eric rasped, and then he led her to the dance floor.
The Alpha nearly passed out when she rested her other hand on his shoulder. Alyssa's touch was gentle, fleeting, but still- any contact from the omega was intense. Shaking his head, he snaked a hand around her waist, his grip firm and protective. He never wanted to let her go.
Eric couldn’t believe that he asked her to dance. To dance! And Alyssa said yes. Even though the Alpha had two left feet, he wanted to sway with her. After all, dancing impressed the omegas. Or it used to. He wasn’t sure anymore as most of his lovers only wanted him in bed. They were happy with extravagant gifts and a good fuck. Also, his smile. They couldn't resist the temptation.
The music wasn't exactly slow, but it wasn't swift either, so they just swayed to the beat. Eric pulled her in closer, hearing the breath hitch in her throat.
Was she feeling it too? Part of him wanted to ask, but the other part wanted to savour this unexpected turn in events—this miracle of being all alone with Alyssa.
He followed her lead, watching how she moved in waves and twirls and swayed like she knew how to let her body do the talking. Suddenly the room around them felt hot; the tension almost palpitating. Eric didn’t care about other people or the fact that there could be a hundred different media houses camping outside. All he could see was Alyssa.
His arms hooked underneath her thighs and they're nose-to-nose with her hands up in his hair. She hummed softly to the beat, her eyes filled with delight, and he wanted to see her like that always. Wanted to take an image of her and tuck it in his wallet.
“Alyssa” He murmured. Eric's voice had deepened, feeling the blood rushing to his ears. He felt as if he were in a daze—nothing but the low buzz of the music and her touch anchoring him to earth.
His fingers went to her jaw, lightly tracing her skin before he tilted her head up. Alyssa did physically shiver this time. His gaze devoured the display, and once again was pulled even closer, breath hitching as the omega bumped into his firm chest.
“E-Eric” Alyssa shakily whispered.
He stared at the shades the blues of her eyes shimmered with so much sweet emotion that it's almost easy to ignore that a huge crowd surrounded them. The Alpha wanted to lean down and press their lips together. He shouldn't do it, shouldn't take her hand and act like her alpha...because she’s taken. Alyssa had someone. But damn it he's not honourable, and he didn’t want to care about it at that moment. Just for a little while.
As his hand slipped back to her waist, she sucked a sharp breath, her eyes rolling back. It didn’t feel wrong–he didn’t want to worry about the damage done tonight. Tonight was his night–his night to be the cause behind her every smile, and her giggles.
In his chest, his heart jackhammered, accelerating and crashing into his chest with every second they stood, observing the omega in front of him. “I don’t want you to think about any other Alpha tonight.”
Her legs wrapped around his hips, heels digging into his back as she tilted her head. “Why?”
“I can’t stand it...”
“What is the difference between my being with someone and you being with someone?” She demanded, irritation clear in her voice.
“You-You’re just not supposed to be with someone else,” He whispered, feeling his face red and hot.
The Alpha could feel her uneven breaths on his skin, warm and hot as she glared at him.
“You are not supposed to be with all those other omegas too” She snarked right back at him, her nails digging into his skin.
He froze at her tone. Was she jealous of those omegas? They didn’t even mean anything to him.
“It’s not the same,” He quietly mumbled. “I don’t dance with them” Eric took that opportunity to spin her around before pulling her back in his arms. “I don’t spin them like this.”
“It doesn’t matter” She scoffed.
The Alpha let out a sigh. He just had to try harder.

As they walked down the dance floor, his shoulder bumped into someone. Eric quickly turned to apologise only to notice the Alpha smirking back at him. His face paled. Liam Ness. The person who hurt him the worst way possible.
“You should be careful, mate” Liams eyes moved to Alyssa for a brief second, narrowing at the way she’s clutching onto Eric's arm.
With that, he walked off. As soon as he was few miles away, Eric let out a sigh of relief. That could have gone worse knowing the kind of person Liam is.
“Who is he?” Alyssa questioned.
“Just a person I used to know.”
