22. Dinner with Alyssa
The Alpha couldn’t let her stay in that horrible place anymore. Surrounded by all the Alphas. The thought of someone else hitting on her made his fist curl. Eric could feel her shooting daggers at him, her nails biting at his skin as she tried to free her wrist.
“Mr Bellini, please.”
He halted in the middle, turning around to meet her eyes. “Eric. Call me, Eric. We are outside of work.”
The omega rolled her lips in between her teeth, little hesitant before she finally nodded her head. His lips twitched at that. Maybe she’s not that bad after all. So obedient. It made his groin tighten.
“Okay, Eric” The name sounded foreign on her tongue but also beautiful. He loved the way she parted her lips before rolling out the words of his name.
“Where are you taking me?” Alyssa asked, her arms crossed against her chest.
“Out”
She made a sound. “You can't do that! I’m here with my friends. I can't just leave them.”
The Alpha made a hum. He didn’t care if she's with her friends. They were useless if they couldn’t look out for her. Earlier the Alpha was drunk and out of his mind. He could have done anything, but none of her friends came to look out for her. She’s new to the city, which is why it concerned him. There can be weird kind of people lurking in the background, and Alyssa would trust them in a blink.
“Okay, where are you, friends?”
Alyssa pointed out in the direction. Eric walked with the omega trailing behind him.
“Mr Bellini” They all stood up the moment he got closer. A smirk crawled on his lips. Just then he noticed Paris making a face at him. Ignoring the beta, he turned towards his employees.
“Good evening, ladies and...Steve”
Steve struggled to keep his eyes open. “Sir! Good evening”
Eric stared back at Alyssa. Really? Her friends. They were high and lost in their world. How would they look out for her?
“I will be talking Miss Rivers along with me. It’s urgent. Hope none of you has a problem with that”
Alyssa lowly gasped, her eyes wide at him. The Alpha, however, didn’t meet her eyes, busy staring at his colleagues. They all stared at each other before slowly nodding their heads. Not like they had an option anyway. Eric turned around with a grin.
“Excellent! Have a good night.”
The omega protested, shaking her head and taking a step further. She slid next to Paris. “Eric...I mean Mr Bellini I can’t leave them behind.”
Her friends stared at her like she had grown a second head. Eric glared at them because he didn’t want to convince her any further.
They all nudged her. “Alyssa don’t worry about us. We’ll be fine. You can go.”
Eric narrowed his eyes at the omega, raising his brow in her direction. The Alpha was content that it worked out in his favour. He couldn’t help but notice the nervousness on her face as she shifted on her feet. Was she scared of him? He hoped not.
“Let’s go Miss Rivers.”
Alyssa let out a sigh before following him out of the cigar lounge.

Before dropping her off, Eric decided to stop at a small restaurant. It was quaint and almost in the way to his place. He saw it many times but never had the chance to go in.
“What can I get you?” The woman sweetly asked as they sat down. She was blatantly staring at Eric. It was very common for the Alpha. He experienced this daily. Women were ready to hand themselves over to him.
Either way, Eric ignored the waitress and ordered his dinner. Mexican rice with nachos on the side. They went quite well together. He took the liberty of ordering for Alyssa as well as she was confused with the choices.
The woman walked off with a bright grin.
“You ordered for me?” The omega frowned.
“Yes.”
“And you're probably going to pay for me too,” Alyssa twisted her mouth.
The Alpha smirked. “Glad we've reached an agreement.”
Alyssa huffed. “The next thing you’ll say is that this is a date.”
Eric blinked but otherwise showed no outward reaction. On the inside, he was fuming. Why would the omega not want to go on a date with him? Did she not see the way that woman was staring at him? Many desired him and begged for him to take them out on a date. Yet she was complaining?
“Does it matter if it is?” Eric casually shrugged. “Besides dates aren’t always romantic or lead to commitment.”
The omega narrowed her eyes. "This isn't a date. The last thing I need is people getting the wrong idea about me. Not everyone is like you, Eric.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He all but shouted.
Alyssa nervously licked her lips. “The rumours...about you make you more desirable… more unattainable. But if something like this got out about me, I'd have to deal with a lot.”
“Why does it matter? Are you in love or something?”
“What?!” She squeaked, suddenly turning bright red.
Eric cleared his throat. “Are you in love with someone? Maybe that’s why you don't want them to hear about something going on between us.”
Alyssa rolled her eyes. “Yeah, something like that.”
"You're in love," Eric repeated. The words didn't sound right. Alyssa in love? With someone, he didn't know? But there was more to it than that, he guessed. Her expression wasn't one of rebellion or defiance right now. It just looked sad, disappointed almost. Something happened.
“Are you going to tell me the story or is just one of your great mysteries?”
“Great mysteries?” The omega giggled. He liked the sound of that. “I'm not a mystery. You can look up my records. I am a quite boring person, to be honest, Never got in trouble. At least, not on any records. I used to work for my Pack Alpha. And now, here I am. I'm hardly a mystery, Eric. You, on the other hand...”
“Dinners here!” The woman cheerfully put down the plates, staring at Eric the whole time. She also slid a glass with a tissue paper wrapped around it. He didn’t have to guess to know that it's her phone number.
“The drink is on the house” She winked at him.
Eric tried not to scoff. He’s not going to call her. But what irked him was that she’s doing it in front of Alyssa. He didn’t want his assistant to see that. When he stared back at her, Alyssa was glaring at the waitress. His lips twitched at that. Was she jealous?
The omega stabbed at her tacos.
“I am a mystery?” Eric questioned, continuing their conversation,
She nodded, making sure to not talk with her mouth full. Her cheeks were puffed, and Eric felt a smile curl on his lips. “Yeah I mean you went from nothing to something in only a few months. Unlike Nicholas and Adrian, you don’t do interviews, you hate social and don’t attend the corporate parties. No one knows anything about you.”
Eric smirked. “You did your research then.”
Alyssa shrugged. “I had some free time.”
“Yeah I’m a private person, and I would like to keep it that way. If people know the real me, they’ll be scared” Eric murmured, while staring at his rice.
Alyssa shook her head. “I don’t agree with that. You're not that scary. You're threatening but not scary. It's hard to explain.”
Eric laughed “Good to know.”
For the first time, he felt free enough to laugh out his chest. Alyssa managed to figure him out in the way others didn’t even after working for him for years. It’s a bit funny for him. That’s all.
“These tacos are amazing by the way” Alyssa moaned, licking her fingers and he smiled. That was all he needed to her.
The Alpha nodded and went back to eating.
After their dinner he dropped her off back to her place, trying not to frown at the area. It’s dingy and very narrow. On the way, he also saw some Alphas lurking near the lamppost. He wanted to say something but bit his tongue. They had a fun dinner night, he didn’t want to ruin that.

The next morning, Alyssa walked in his office, her head held high, and a coffee tray in her hand.
“Here’s your coffee sir,” The omega politely called out, putting it on his desk.
Eric raised an eyebrow at the coffee. “I'm impressed.”
“That I got your coffee on time?” Alyssa asked incredulously. “I've been doing that since I started working here.”
“No,” Eric shook his head. “I mean the tests. You passed all of them with flying colours. Congratulations. You have the job."
"I've had the job for about three weeks now” Alyssa rolled her eyes.
“Well, now you have it. I won't fire you for something stupid, and I won't be playing any more games with you,” Eric smirked. “So far no one has ever really gotten this job.”
The Alpha wanted her to move out of that place, so the only way was to give her the job fully. He’ll think about the consequences later.
“Okay thank you! Glad to be officially working here.” She cheekily responded.
“You can leave now. I need to make some phone calls” Eric quickly dismissed because he can’t control his smile around her, and it’s annoying. How can she have such a significant effect on him?
