31. Alyssa wants to help
The assistant followed him meekly, her hands folded together. What did he want to say now? With her heart in her throat, she closed the door behind her, trying to make the least noise as possible. Alyssa could hear the sound of her blood rushing in her veins, heart thudding in her chest.
“I am sorry” He whispered, swivelling his chair towards her.
Those three words echoed in her ears. Raw and foreign hearing from his mouth. She froze in her place.
“Mr Bellini?”
He let out a sigh. “Nicholas told me about your aunt yesterday, and I’m sorry for your loss.”
The omega choked on her breath at that. Her eyes widened. She still couldn’t believe that he was apologising to her, owning up to his mistake. It felt a bit unreal, to be honest.
His brow pinched together. “If i had known earlier...” The Alpha cut himself off. “My condolences to you and your family. If there’s anything I can do-this company can do, please tell. We ensure to help you through these difficult times.”
Alyssa heard about grief counselling they provided on the top floor. It’s private and secure for all the members of BEFORE.
“Thank you, Mr Bellini” Alyssa croaked.
“Does that mean I don’t have to go with you for that charity gala?” She quickly asked. If he was apologising maybe he’ll also take back his stupid condition.
Erik made a face. “I’m afraid not. I have already asked JJ to make an outfit for you. It’ll be delivered by the end of the week.”
Alyssa glared at him. When did he have the time to talk with JJ of all people? Did he plan that beforehand or something? She was so confused.
As she stood in front of him, shooting daggers his way, Erik kindly blinked his eyes at her. “Is there anything else, Miss Rivers?”
The omega was dumbfounded. She shook her head. “N-No”
“Great then. I’ll have my cup of coffee now. Thanks” He dismissed her and got back to his work.
Alyssa couldn’t help but frown. She couldn’t believe that he wanted to take her to the gala with him. Why would he do that? Also that Erik Bellini admitted his mistake and apologised to her. That counted for something, right?

It was late at night when she noticed Erik working in his office.
She knocked on the door and stepped in, seeing him try hard to focus on the screen, rubbing his eyes occasionally.
“Ms Rivers, you can go home,” The Alpha said, tilting his head. “I’ll finish up in here and email everything to the managers. There’s no point in keeping you here all night so that you can email them. Go home and get some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
With that, he turned back to his computer and started typing again.
The omega didn’t like the look on his face. He’s always seemed determined, firm and even a little angry. Most of the times she found him smiling, but that’s a rarity. The point was she didn’t like those looks either, but they were better than the defeated look he was wearing right now. Alyssa couldn’t stop herself from feeling sorry for him.
The Alpha was exhausted, his eyes red, and she could make out dark circles under his eyes. His face was dull.
With a sigh, Alyssa dragged her feet next to Erik and noticed the papers he was copying from. “So you just have to type everything that’s written on this paper?” She asked, pointing to the paper.
The Alpha made a sound, absentmindedly nodding his head even though he wasn’t really paying any attention to her, too focused on typing.
Alyssa knew this was a bad idea and that she needed her sleep as well and shouldn’t get involved in this, but the omega wanted to help him. Erik might have been nothing but horrible, but the omega had always been a good person, even towards people who did not deserve it.
“Uh...if all you need to do is type in whatever is on that paper then maybe I could do it for you? It won’t take me as long. You can go home and get a little rest for that lunch meeting tomorrow. Don’t worry once I’m done with it I’ll email it to the managers.”
The Alpha stopped typing, his head snapped up, and he blinked at her, shocked. He opened and closed his eyes as if to say something but then kept quiet. What was he thinking about? Erik stared at the screen for a few seconds before staring back at her.
“Are you sure about it?”
The omega nodded her head. “Yes, Mr Bellini, you can go home and get some sleep. I’ll handle this.”
He appeared hesitant as he stood up, pulling the jacket from the handle and slipping it on. She tried not to stare as he flexed those muscles and simply handed him his suitcase.
With a bated breath, she picked the papers and walked towards the door. If he was leaving, she had no business to sit in his office. That would only make her feel weird. Erik was still staring at her like she had grown two heads.
As they walked to the door, he turned to her. “You really don’t have to do this, you know?”
She simply rolled her eyes. The omega had no idea why she was helping him too. “I know that. I’m not
doing this because I have to; I’m doing it because I want to”. With that, she resumed walking towards her office, clutching the papers in her hand like her life depended on it.
Erik observed her one last time, his eyes burning into her skin before slowly striding towards the elevators.
As the elevator doors opened, he yelled over his shoulder. “If you encounter any trouble give me a call, whatever the time and once you’re done email the draft to the email that’s written down on the top of those papers!”
Alyssa hummed before disappearing in her office. On her way, she made herself a nice warm cup of coffee, preparing herself for a long night.
She managed to finish typing in the whole draft at three o’clock in the morning. By the end, she had managed to drink five cups of coffee. Her eyes felt droppy and burned with tiredness. Coming in to work in a few hours was going to be hell.
She saved the document in the pen drive that she found on Erik's desk just in case. The omega made sure to print a copy for herself so that she can later verify the mistakes. She had every intention of sending it right then and there but what’s the use? No ones going to check the email at three in the night! That’s why she decided to send the email later when she comes back to work.
With that thought in her mind, she stood up and grabbed all her things and left her office to go home and finally get some very well deserved sleep. As soon as she arrived home, she threw himself on the very warm, inviting bed without even bothering to change her clothes and was asleep before her head even hit the pillow.

The next morning which was like five hours later, she hurried out of her apartment the minute she was done getting dressed. Alyssa ran to the elevator, and as soon as she arrived on her floor, she ran to Mr Bellini’s office only to find him already there. Halfway she realised she forgot to bring him his coffee. He was so going to kill her!
“I’m sorry I’m late sir. I’m afraid I overslept, and I know that’s no excuse but-“
Erik was quick to interrupt her rambling. “Don’t worry about it. It’s alright, I can understand why. Just don’t make a habit of it”.
Alyssa felt her mouth fell in shock as she stared at her boss, surprised that he had let her off the hook so easily. She couldn’t help the smile threatening on her lips as she realised that it was his way of thanking her for offering to finish up the document.
“Thank you, Mr Bellini.”
He shook his head, his lips twitching, “No, I should be the one thanking you Alyssa.”
The way her name sounded falling off his lips made her toes curl. She tried not to let it show on her face, but internally the omega was screaming.
“You offered to stay late to finish that document so I could go get some sleep even though I’ve been nothing but mean to you and I couldn’t be more thankful. I got the notification from the managers that they have already received the mail.”
Alyssa smiled at him but didn’t say anything else. The omega was giddy with excitement. First, he apologised, and now he’s thanking her. All in twenty-four hours. It’s no less than a miracle. Maybe Eric was changing for good. The thought made her chest flutter. As she kept on staring at him, a few seconds later, the omega realised what he said. What email? She didn’t send anything last night.
