29. Nicholas Consoles Alyssa

Nicholas couldn't think straight. Who would after hearing that Alyssa was ready to be courted? Besides, as embarrassed as he was to admit the way he reacted, he had enjoyed hearing that news. Thank
you very much. Even though he would never admit that out loud, it made him giddy with excitement.

As soon as he was done with his meeting, he immediately sat at his usual spot in between the desk and the wall. His leather chair had to be the most comfortable and luxurious piece of furniture. Just to add he made the side arms, not of the bars but comfy pillow-like stands. In short, it was more of a leatherette than an office chair for him to sit.

With a sigh, Nicholas peered up at the high ceiling his eyes following every single detail as he tried to clear his head. Emotion swept through him; sentimental as can be he adjusted himself on the chair. The Alphas mind couldn’t help but wonder, trying to figure out what Alyssa could mean, wondering what he can do about it.

Why was she looking for Adrian in particular? He recalled his best friend kissing her. The incident still made his chest pang and stomach curl in jealously. He was the one who wanted to do that. Alas, Adrian swept in and took the chance.

The Alpha shook his head, trying desperately to get that thought off of him, opening and closing the desk drawer in front of him. He contemplated texting Alyssa and inviting her for early lunch, but he decided against it each time. That would only make him seem too desperate and eager. It’s only a few more minutes of a wait anyway, and then he’ll be seeing her.

Nicholas couldn’t wait to have an actual conversation with her. Talk about all the things that might have happened during the weekend, which changed her mind. Tension and confusion settled in his shoulders, his neck going stiff as he thought more about it.

He let his head loll back against the comfort of the cushion and tried to relax, but he can’t seem to get comfortable, shifting multiple times.

A frustrated sigh slipped from his lips, and he buried his face in between his hands, trying not to yell at his current state. Why was he so disturbed over it? Besides wasn't he the one who asked Eric to
stay away from her whereas he imagining different scenarios in his head. Such a hypocrite!

His thoughts flipped like a switch, as he sat up. He should think through before saying anything to the omega. With that thought in his head, he closed his eyes for a few minutes.

When he heard footsteps approaching him, Nicholas sat up. It felt like everything was winding in slow motion as he tried to blink his eyes, squinting at the sudden smog in his room. He stared at the opened window and frowned. How did he miss that?

In the smoggy like air in the room, the omega’s face was sheen with perspiration, and her silky hair is in her face as she strutted in his direction. Oh for crying out loud! She took his breath away, with those eyes of seafoam, lit up like the lights on Diwali. Her usual curled in a smile lips were twisted, pressed in a straight line.

That seemed different. A worry line appeared between his eyebrows. She might be pissed off at something or someone.

She knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

The omega plopped in the seat in front of him, her hands folded together as she sat.

“What happened?”

A soft blush bloomed on her cheekbones as if she didn’t expect him to ask. The omega shrugged shyly. “Nothing”

“You sure about that? You look like someone just kicked a puppy.” Or someone who’s been yelled at.

Her lips twitched at that.

“That would be you,” She childishly grumbled, crossing her arms against her chest. A few seconds later, as if she realised her mistake, Alyssa shook her head, wincing. “Sorry”

The Alpha chuckled. “That’s alright. So...should we go down for lunch.”

She made a face, shaking her head. “I thought you wanted us to talk.”

Oh. So Alyssa did remember. He didn’t know why but that bought a smile to his face. Nicholas bobbed his head, trying to play innocent. “Oh yeah.”

“Don’t worry about it. I can order something for both of us.”

“Yes, please.”

Nicholas was already dialling to the cafe downstairs. “What are you in the mood for?”

She licked her lips before staring back at him. “Indian?”

“Great choice” The Alpha nodded.

He ordered two desi rice bowls with chicken curry and a sweet dish gulab jamun. The Alpha had a bit of sweet tooth. Also, he was sure that Alyssa would like that dish.

“I’ll be right back,” Alyssa croaked, excusing herself.

With an uncanny grace, the Alpha eyed her, urging himself not to follow her. Few minutes passed by when she returned with her purse. He rolled his eyes when the omega tried to pay him her share of lunch.

“It’s on me.”

“But-”

Nicholas shook his head. “You can treat me some other day.”

Alyssa pointedly stared at him. “I’m counting on it.”

Her dark hair fell on her face at the action, almost falling into her shady eyes. She blew them away with a puff of air before sliding back on the chair. He was so enamoured with every single thing she did that it’s a bit pathetic. Nicholas blinked his eyes, leaning back in his seat.

“So tell me what happened?”

Alyssa took a deep breath before telling him everything. It was a lot to take in. Especially the part where she mentioned about losing her loved one. Her face was full of sadness, and he could see the way she’s trying to compose herself throughout the story. It’s unfair! She didn’t have to suffer so much.

It was clear as day that the omega loved her aunty very much. He could tell that from the way she talked so fondly about her dead aunt. She had that glow in her eyes and crinkles around her lips.

By the end of it, he was so lost. He didn’t know what to say to her that would take all her pain away. Nicholas was amazed at the person sitting in front of him. She did that every single time. Just when the Alpha thought he had her figured out, she did something. Something so wonderful and out of her way that one simply cannot dare to do so.

When there wasn’t any response, the omega peeked at him again to find he’s staring at her—staring like he’s never seen the omega before.

She licked her lips, nervously before muttering. “Umm...What’s that look for?”

Nicholas was quick to avert his gaze nervously.

“I just…You are so brave. I don’t know how you do it every day.”

She shrugged at him, red tinting at her cheeks like she’s trying not to blush.

“Is that why you haven’t been yourself now? You can take half-day if you want. I’ll ask Paris to help us out” The Alpha offered. He didn’t want her to suffer quietly in the office. Maybe going back home would make her feel better.

Alyssa almost made a sound, shaking her head. “Oh, no! It’s not that.”

She was suddenly nervous, her legs bouncing against the desk and eyes roaming all around the room. Anywhere but meeting his. What was she hiding from him? He needed to know.

The Alpha cleared his throat. “Hey, it’s alright. You can tell me anything. I promise I’ll try to help you with it.”

A sigh slipped out of her. “I don’t think anyone can help me out of it.”

He raised his brow. “What’s that?”

“My boss.”

Nicholas frowned at that. “Adrian?”

She ironically chuckled, “No. Mr Bellini. He’s such an...” The omega immediately bit her lips, her eyes wide. “I mean he’s such a piece of work.”

The Alpha couldn’t help but agree with that. After all, he knew Eric more than anyone. He must have done something for Alyssa to be so annoyed and irritated. Why did he keep messing with her?

“What did he do now?”

Alyssa twisted her lips. “As I failed to pick calls from that Tela Groups they sent a notice...along with fine.”

Nicholas sucked a breath. It’s very common with the companies as they are impatient. He should’ve alerted about that to Alyssa.

“So Mr Bellini gave me a choice. Either I get fired or accept to go on a charity gala with him.” Alyssa got quiet as she whispered the last part. “As his date.”

His jaw clenched at those words. What was Eric trying to do? When did he get so disgusting? Nicholas couldn’t believe it. “Did he say that?”

“Y-Yeah”

“He wasn’t like this before.”

Alyssa curiously blinked. “Then what happened?”
