50. Going Back Home

As soon as she entered the office, Alyssa could feel eyes trailing behind her, those secretive whispers. Nothing new. Ever since that whole thing with Paris happened, they all were treating her like that, gossiping behind her back. It didn’t phase her one bit. They knew better than to mess with her.

However, she couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that Paris would do something like that. Someone she considered as a friend. So much for trusting her.

Shaking her head, she pushed the doors, excited to start her day and make coffees for her Alphas. They must be here anytime now. Just then she heard the door creak behind her.

“Good morning.” Alyssa coyly whispered.

She found herself pinned between the counter where she was making coffee by her boss, who continued to stand entirely too close. Nicholas had a grin on his face as he took a step further.

“Morning baby.”

The omega composed herself under the pressure of his scrutiny. Why was he trying to do? Slowly her lips formed into that slight smile, the one with a secretive one only reserved for her Alphas, the one that killed Nicholas every single time. From the corner of her eyes, she noticed some employees approaching so she quickly pulled away. Even though everyone was aware that the three Alphas court her, she tried to stay professional.

“What are you doing?” He frowned at her.

“I’m making coffee.” She quickly turned around.

The tension was thick in the air. As if her colleagues could feel it too, they quickly took refilled their cups and left the room.

Nicholas grabbed Alyssa, wrapping her in a hold so that he can begin kissing her. With the omega tightly secured in his arms, she felt his lips move against her, slowly and sensually. He pulled her always from the coffee.

A groan ripped from her throat when he took it upon himself to mouth at her jaw, sharp little teeth grazing her skin followed by his tongue to soothe the sting. His lips followed the path, moving to the hollow between her neck and shoulder. The omega shuddered as she felt his cold breath on her sensitive skin.

She moaned, fingers curling into his hair and body arching up into him. “Do it again,” she mumbled.

Nicholas hummed and did it again. He licked her skin from her collarbone, pausing to suck a bruise on her neck before kissing her again. And then licking up the neck and sucking the skin from the hollow of her throat, his tongue lingering on her pulse to feel the vibrations of her pounding heart. The omega was flushed down to her chest.

Pulling away, she noticed a bulge in his pages. The omega palmed over the tented material lightly, basking in the way the Alpha jerked, hips bucking up into the air.

“Want me to do something about that?”

Before he could answer, someone knocked on the door. Alyssa stepped back as if she had been burned and turned around.

It’s the new secretary. Unlike Paris, she’s well mannered and also married.

“Umm...there's a call for you, Alyssa.”

Who could be calling her on the office phone? She sighed and licked her swollen lips before turning over her shoulder. “Give me a minute. I’ll be there.”
***
It was her Pack Alpha. Her blood turned cold the moment she heard that dreadful heavy breathing followed by his voice. The omega harshly clutched at the phone, her insides trembling with each breath she took.

“It’s about your promised. He's here to claim you.”

The breath knocked out of her lungs. Pain hit her like she’s been doused in gasoline and matched up like her entire skin was on fire. She closed her eyes, hoping it wasn’t true. No, no, no. Why always her? She’s happy courted by three Alphas.

“Are you there?”

Swallowing the flare of pain, she croaked. “Yes, Alpha”

“Good. You know the rules. Be there by tomorrow. We will announce the ceremony when you come back.”

Alyssa jerkily nodded her head, but before she realised the line went dead. The omega slumped against the nearest wall. She stared at her mark, rage, hot and red swirling in her belly. Why did she agree to be marked? Oh because that’s the only way her family could stay in the pack.

Her whole life was in shambles now!

Alyssa decided to talk about it with her three Alphas during her lunchtime. As expected, they were all furious, not ready to let her leave. The omega knew that they would never allow her, but she had no option. Her promised had rights on her before they did. That’s how it worked.

“We’ll find a solution,” Adrian said hopefully while Nicholas nodded as well.

The omega turned her eyes towards Eric, who was quiet since she broke the news—he's taking it the hardest. She knew. Even though the Alpha didn’t talk a lot, he had a storm of emotions raging inside him. That’s something she found out while dating him.

“I don’t think I can wait that long. My pack Alpha wants me there by tomorrow” She nervously licked her lips, her eyes still on Eric.

Nicholas made a sound, his jaw clenched. “So what? You’re leaving then?”

“I don’t have a choice, Nicholas.”

The Alpha cursed under his breath, rubbing his face. She could understand what they were going through to some extent. The omega didn’t want to get away from them as well, but she had no choice. Of course, she was not going to mate with her promised. No way! Her ultimate plan was to convince her promised that she’s being courted by someone else and she’s happy with them. Hopefully, he would understand and let her break the bond.

Maybe if she told them that they would be less angry but they weren’t even giving her a chance!

“So all this was nothing then?” Eric cleared his throat, his eyes boring into her. “Is it that easy to walk away?”

“I am not walking away” She breathed through her teeth.

“Then why are you leaving?!” Adrian yelled, his voice almost making her flinch and clench her eyes.

“Can you all listen to me? Please” She took a deep breath, turning towards them with a calm look on her face. Silence fell over the room as they all met her eyes, waiting for her to continue.

“I am going to reject my promised.”

Their faces brightened instantly. Were they not expecting that? Shaking her head, she continued, her cheeks red. “I like to be courted by you three. And I think if I try to convince my promised, he may agree and then we can mutually break the bond.”

“But what if he doesn’t?” Eric cleared his throat.

His question hung in the air. She thickly swallowed because there was only one other way.

Nicholas shrugged. “Then, one of us will challenge him for a duel. Simple”

Alyssa shakily breathed. That option was terrifying for so many reasons. Its old fashioned duel method, of course. The winner gets to take home the prize here, the omega but the loser is killer in the worst way possible. Always. No one has ever come out of it alive, and that scared her the most.

When she went back home, her mother greeted her, immediately hugging her.

“Oh, my baby,” She breathed her voice, barely a whisper. “I heard”

Of course, she did.

They stayed like that for a while before Alyssa walked inside with her mother. Her brother was nowhere in sight. Then the omega remembered its weekday.

She sat her mother down and told her everything about her bosses and that they were courting her.

“I don't know what to do, mom. I can't give up now!”

“No, you can’t,” Her mother agreed, unbelievably proud that her daughter was showing so much maturity even though all she probably wanted to do was give up and cry. “I believe in you. Whatever you have to do, you’ll do it right, I know it.”

“Maybe if I believed in myself like you do” She bitterly chuckled, receiving a deadpanned serious expression from her mother.

“You can’t go wrong when it comes to your bond now, baby. Any decision you make for it, especially when it’s about your Alphas, you’ll be right. Your very nature won’t allow for wrong ones. So don’t worry about making decisions, just go with your heart,” She finished, cheering up more with every word.

“Thanks, Mom,” She forced past the lump in her throat.

“Good. Now, let’s have lunch? Are you hungry? I made so much food for you.”

Maybe the times ahead would be troubling. Perhaps they would be on the very doorstep of impossible. Maybe every single thing would go wrong before it went right, but the omega knew that she would succeed in the end. She had to. For her Alphas. For herself. That’s too much pressure, but with her family support she knew she could do anything
