28. Alyssas Termination
Alyssa turned off the TV when she noticed the clock on the wall. She had only an hour to get ready for work.
The omega went to the bathroom and splashed cold water on his face, hoping it would wake her up. It did its job, but she was still feeling very moody. Glaring at her reflection, Alyssa brushed her teeth while trying to untangle her messy hair. She closed the door behind her as she made her way to the room to start getting dressed.
Her mood took a turn for the worse when she couldn’t decide what to wear. In the end, she shook her head and grabbed a random suit which she later realised revealed more of her neckline. Why was JJ sexualising office attires? She hated them sometimes, but then again, it’s all about the reputation of the company.
Alyssa hurried outside and got in her bus without even getting a glass of juice for breakfast. To make matters worse, she still felt sleepy. All thanks to her staying up late. Her mother’s words kept ringing in her mind so she couldn’t help but think about it. Now that she promised her mother to look for someone else, her heart twisted. The person that struck her mind kept changing all of a sudden.
She even thought about Nicholas! It burned her cheeks. How can she think about him like that? So what if he was an idea Alpha who made her laugh and met almost all her criteria? It won’t change the fact that he’s her friend first. The omega shouldn’t be having those kinds of thoughts about him.
Few minutes passed by when she entered the BEFORE building. The omega made her way to the elevator that would take her to the desired floor. She tried not to grit her teeth together at hearing that stupid elevator music that always got on her nerves. Today was simply not her day.
The clock showed nine am when she stepped in. Everyone had already started working—a day that didn’t deviate than the others: the same everyday interviews, papers, documents. The same headache, after all. Everywhere people were walking in strict suits, with stern expressions on their faces: around is prevailing that tense working atmosphere—same old same old.
Alyssa skipped to Adrian's office only to see it empty. That’s when she realised that he’s still at the conference. Her mouth twisted at that. She wasn’t able to reach him through the mobile phone, and he wasn’t replying to any of her messages. The omega knew no other way of reaching him.
“Looking for someone?” She jumped at the voice, a hand immediately flying towards her chest. For someone with wolf hearing, she’s slow.
Nicholas sheepishly smiled. “Sorry”
Her face flamed as she stared at Nicholas. Her boss. The omega almost had impure thoughts about dating him. Now that he’s standing in front of her that only made her blush deeper.
“It’s alright” Alyssa blushed. “Good morning.”
“Morning to you too. Are you looking for Adrian?”
She nodded her head. “Yeah”
“He won’t be back for another few days. Tough luck”
A sigh escaped her lips. Few days huh. Not like she had any choice. She bobbed her head and shrugged.
“Is there something you wanted to tell him?” Nicholas arched his brow.
“Only that I am ready to be courted.”
His eyes widened; he almost choked on his breath. “W-What?”
“It’s a long story.”
“Tell me during lunch then.”
“Okay”

Alyssa got back to work. She was busy typing a document Eric had written in for her.
The omega heard loud footsteps approaching in her direction.
“I want you in my office, right now!”
She was finding it extremely hard to keep herself from rolling her eyes. Why was Eric yelling at her again? Alyssa was about to give him a piece of mind when she remembered how much she needed this job, so instead bit her lips to stop talking.
The omega was so busy thinking and lost in her thought about her that she didn’t notice the said person, standing in front of her desk and tapping his foot on the ground impatiently. “Miss Rivers!”
He snapped when he got tired of waiting for her to notice him.
Alyssa almost jumped a foot in the air when she heard him call out. The omega tilted her head only to notice a deep frown on his face. If looks could kill, she would be dead by now.
“In my office. Now" His deep voice was filled with dominance, and left no room for argument, as he slammed the file down on her desk. She stared at the red file on her desk before lifting it and clutching between her hands.
A tired sigh escaped her lips, knowing she might be yelled at again.
Alyssa stood up, smoothed a hand down her royal blue striped pants suit before following her boss steps to his office. She timidly knocked on the door, peeking her head in the slightly ajar office door.
“Come in" She heard the Alphas fierce response from the other side.
"You called me, sir?” She squeaked.
“Ah, yes. Come here." Eric spoke as his emerald eyes pierced through her cerulean ones as if threatening her to break eye contact with him. She stared at the tiny space between the wall and his desk. What did he want to show? Shaking her hand, she walked towards his desk and stood beside him.
“Miss Rivers please remind me this...” He started while still not looking at her. If it was a new tactic to intimidate her, it’s working. The omega couldn’t help but run all the worst scenarios in her mind only if he would stop messing around and get straight to the point.
“Can you please tell me what's your job?” Eric's voice had gone back to dominance, drawling and making her skin prickle with goosebumps. He had the kind of voice that would make omega drop to their knees upon hearing it.
“Your assistant, sir” Her voice cracked.
“And what are personal assistants supposed to do, hmm?”
She nervously licked her lips. “Uhh...dealing with your phone calls, managing diaries and organising meetings and appointments, booking and arranging travel, transport and accommodation. organising events and conferences.”
“That's right,” The Alpha cleared his throat. “Managing my appointments is also your job, as you clearly said. Then why didn’t you do it?”
She kept quiet, looking down. Alyssa tried to recall the instances where she might have missed something.
“Look at me.” Eric almost growled.
Her head snapped up, looking at her boss.
“Yes, sir.”
“Do you know what happens if I don’t attend one meeting?”
She shook her head no; her heartbeat getting faster and faster by the second. Alyssa could hear the sound of blood rushing in her veins, her toes curled inside her heels.
“Bring me the file” The omega immediately obeyed, leaning over and grabbing the file that she brought in earlier.
“Read it” He ordered.
As Alyssa frantically flipped the pages, her eyes widened. It’s a termination notice. Her mouth parted at that. Did she cause that?
“What does it read, omega?” His voice was cold, merciless.
“Umm...” Her eyes darted down, heart sinking as she realised that they were also asked the compensation amount. “T-two m-million dollars compensation” She whimpered.
That’s the kind of money she only heard about. She had never seen that much money. Was Eric going to ask her to repay? She visibly swallowed at that. The omega cannot afford to pay that much money.
“Is that a small amount?” He continued, his thumb rubbing his chin.
“N-No, sir.”
“This money is nothing, but do you have an idea what this will do to our reputation? All because you couldn’t pick up any of their calls and respond to any of their messages all weekend.”
Tears welled up in her eyes. She was grieving her aunt, but that would be considered as an excuse. What if Eric fired her over it? And she didn’t know if she could even afford rent this month.
“Luckily I was able to talk them out of it, so they are taking back their notice.”
A sigh escaped her lips, she blinked back her tears. “A-am I going to b-be fired?”
The thought made her heart twist. That’s the last thing she wanted to deal with.
"Well," Eric started, “I am giving you a choice now.”
“We can go the formal way, you getting a lovely termination letter.” He paused to lick his lips. “Or. We do it my way, and no one will know this grave mistake you made”
She bobbed her head.
“What do you want to choose, Ms Rivers?” She heard.
The omega clenched her eyes; she couldn't afford to lose his job. She had rent to pay, family to feed, mother to take care of. And her career does pay reasonably well.
“Y-your way s-sir” Alyssa stuttered, her hands folded together as she stared at the floor.
Eric smirked at her.
