39. Nicholas asks Alyssa Out

The omega leaned forward and delicately placed a hand on his knee. No, on his thigh, just above his knee. Nicholas breathing stuck in his throat at the action. If he squinted his eyes just enough, he swore he might’ve been able to see her cheeks flare pink.

“I’m happy that you came,” She murmured, pulling her hand away, then, and carefully tucked it back into her lap. The Alpha stared at her delicate fingers curling into themselves, let his eyes roam around her when he felt the omegas eyes on her.

He was still looking at her. “I’m glad, too.”

After Adrian came back with a tub full of popcorn, they opened the wind bottle and settled back on the couch. Nicholas had no idea why he was summoned so urgently if all they were going to do was watch movies. But when Alyssa slid beside him, he didn’t complain.

They all sat down for dinner after an hour or so, and he noticed the way Alyssa scolded Adrian and filled his plate for him and lifted her napkin to wipe the grease off his mouth. It made his heart pang. He wanted that with her.

They shifted the topic to Nicholas, and while he was telling a stupid story, the Alpha saw Alyssa smile at him just as brightly. It was enough to make him feel better.

After they ate, and Alyssa poured them more wine while Adrian got out a board game, the mere sight of which made the omega groan. The three of them played for two hours and drained the wine and Nicholas was laughing harder than he remembered laughing in a very long time.

He was happy. He was so pleased.

“I don’t like this game!” Alyssa shouted, picking up one of the new pieces and tossing it across the floor, “It’s the worst thing to ever happen to me! It takes too long, and it’s so boring.”

“Is it because you’re losing?” Nicholas teased her.

She twisted her mouth. “No, because I’m tired, I’m going to bed.”

“Sweetheart it’s not even that late...” Adrian trailed, and his eyes shifted to the clock. “Oh. It’s midnight. I didn’t notice.”

Nicholas widened his eyes. He had no idea it’s that late.

“Right. So. I’ll just go to bed,” The omega said, starting to stand up but Adrian was faster, and picked her up in a cradle, making her almost shriek and smack his chest.

“You’re terrible.”

“Whatever you say,” He chuckled and then started to move across the room.

Nicholas stomach dipped as he watched them move, the corners of his mouth drifting down. He bowed his head as he stood up, slowly, and started to go to the hallway. It had been a good dinner. A good night. But he had to go back.

Just as he was walking into the hallway, his friends voice stopped him. “Hey,” Adrian said softly, “Why don’t you stay?”

The Alpha stared at him for a long moment, almost certain he had misheard him.

“Uhh...What?”

“Stay the night, it’s dark outside,” Adrian said, readjusting the omega in his arms, “You can take the guest room.”

“Oh,” Nicholas stuttered, glancing at the two of them, “I don’t know – “

“Nicholas,” Alyssa said softly, her voice gentle and warm as she stepped closer to him. His throat felt dry all of a sudden. “Stay. Please.”

He just stared at her, his eyes shifting for a moment before the Alpha just nodded. She looked stunning under those low lights, her eyes pleading and lips glistening like begging to be kissed. How can he deny the prettiest omega ever?

The Alpha thought about what waited for him at home – an empty, unmade bed and nothing else.

The prospect of staying with Alyssa, in Adrian's warm house filled with the smell of the omega, vanilla and flowers, he never wanted to go back to his place again.

“Okay, I’ll stay” He croaked.

As soon as Alyssa retreated to her room, Nicholas saw Adrian walking to the kitchen. It was the perfect opportunity for him to talk. Taking a deep breath, he cornered his friend.

“Hey”

Adrian jumped at his sudden voice. “Fuck! You scared me!”

“Sorry”

“Can't sleep?” His friend asked, filling the glass with water.

“I wanted to talk to you about something.”

“Oh,” Adrain shifted, giving him full attention. “What is it?”

“I want to take Alyssa out.”

Adrian rolled his lips in between his teeth. “Like court her?”

“Mmh”

“Okay,” Adrain shrugged. Well, that went a lot better than he expected.

Nicholas couldn’t stop thinking about it the whole night. He was excited to take Alyssa to dinner. Just two of them. With that thought in his mind, he drifted to sleep.

The next morning he woke up, ready to get back to his penthouse. He had a lot of planning to do. For one, he cannot ask his assistant to reserve a table. That would be silly.

“Are you leaving?” A sudden voice interrupted him.

He turned over his shoulder only to look at Alyssa.

“Yeah, I have to go back and get ready. I smell in these clothes.”

“Oh” Her smile was so bright and earnest. The way she was nearly bouncing on her toes, cheeks flushed, and eyes dazed made his stomach feel liquefied.

“Yeah,” He said, his voice a bit too weak.

She rocked on her toes for another moment, and then leaned forward, wrapping both arms around him and squeezing. The Alpha jumped a bit, not used to the feeling before wrapping his arms around her waist. It was perfect to ask her for dinner.

“Um...” Nicholas swallowed.

“Yes?” She asked, tilting her head.

“I was wondering – well if maybe you’d like to go to dinner with me tonight.”

“Dinner?” She trailed, licking her lips.

“Uh. Yes. Dinner out,” He said.

“I’d like that.”

He breathed a sigh. The Alpha had no idea why he was so nervous about it.

“What time?”

“Eight?”

“Okay.” She breathed. “I’ll see you at work.”

With that, the omega stepped back. He managed to nod dumbly and pick his coat, all while trying not to scream at the smell of omega clinging to him, the omega who lingered in the hall and waved at him until he was out the door.

Nicholas had a bright smile all day. He got asked by his employees, but he just shook his head in response. His stomach did a flip when Alyssa smiled at him one too many times. He couldn’t wait for the day to be over.

As soon as the clock hit six, he was out of his office. The Alpha went home and hurried to take his shower, he dried off, shaved, and combed his hair.

He put on his favourite pair of jeans and a dark green button-down shirt, rolled his sleeves to his elbow and left it undone at the top three buttons. After that, he slid on his watch. The Alpha sprayed on the bottle of cologne he saved for his date nights out. Taking a deep breath, Nicholas rubbed his hands over his face to stop his grin.

When he went out into the hall, Adrian was waiting for him, standing by the kitchen table and looking at the stunning flower arrangement the Alpha had personally ordered for Alyssa. The only reason Nicholas called him was to check the flowers and judge his outfit. He was nervous, alright.

“Do you think she’ll like them?” Nicholas asked.

“Of course! They are extraordinary! Also, she loves anything pink and white. You did a great job with these” Adrian chuckled, his gaze still on the flowers. When he did glance up, he just squinted at Nicholas. “Nice outfit”

“Why thank you.”

Adrian went his way after Nicholas was done. The Alpha nervously knocked on the omegas door, staring at the surrounding. He was still sceptical of the area but chose to keep the comment to himself.

Nicholas sharply inhaled as she opened the door.

Alyssa was breathtaking in her silk shirt, with a rounded collar that was buttoned all the way to her throat, tight dark jeans showing off her long legs and a pair of wedges that matched her shirt colour. As always she had her leather handbag carefully dangling off her hand.

She finally lifted her head, her eyes were wide and her mouth curved in a lovely, coy smile like she was waiting patiently for his praise.

But Nicholas was still in a shock, could barely say anything, his mouth had gone dry. He had seen Alyssa dressed up before, but never just for him. And that meant something.

The omega cleared her throat, bringing him out of his thoughts. “Hey”

“You look beautiful,” He swallowed before finally speaking up.

Immediately a flush crawled on her cheeks as she nodded her head. Licking her lips, she shyly peered at him, her eyelashes kissing her cheekbones. How was he going to survive the entire night in her presence?

“Thank you.”
