37. Nicholas resolve

An unimaginable anguish caved in on his chest, just as he deserved. Why was the Alpha feeling that way? That’s right because he let her slip away from his hand. Not only that, but to overcompensate for his mistake, he decided to maintain distance from her. So far, it sucked, and he hated every minute of it.

The crestfallen look on her face as he made those sneering comment and turned his head away were all too visible. Nicholas had no other choice, alright. She deserved to be happy, and the only way would be not to act like he owned her or something. Those words he wanted to say were on the tip of his tongue, ready to roll out. But the moment he sniffed her the next day, very much smelling like Adrian, he stopped himself. A harsh realisation dawned on him.

Adrian was not only his business partner but also his friend. He shouldn’t be having those kind of thoughts about Alyssa anymore.

Every second of it felt like he’s losing his every breath, as his body screamed in protest, simply because he had her but didn’t take the opportunity.

What made matters worse was the radiant glow on Adrian's face. He was like the cat who got all the cream. There was no stopping that ridiculous smile on his face. Besides no one can blame him. Nicholas would have acted the same way if he had Alyssa as his girlfriend.

Just then, a sharp knock on his door broke him out of his thoughts. The Alpha lifted his head, staring at his friend standing outside the glass door. He motioned him to come in.

Adrian walked in with that gleaming smile on his face; his hands tucked in the blazer pockets.

“Need anything?”

Adrian hummed. “Yes. Your presence in the cafe.”

“Huh?” The Alpha raised his brow at his friend.

His business partner chuckled, pointing at the clock on the wall. “It’s lunchtime. Atleast join us today.”

At that, Nicholas sharply turned towards the clock only to see the hour and minute hand stuck on one. How did he not notice that? A sigh escaped his lips, and he rubbed his face. The thought of Alyssa was eating him from inside so much that he almost forgot to keep track of time. Just then, Adrian's words clicked him.

“Us?”

His Alpha friend hummed. “Yeah. Alyssa will be joining us of course. The others have already had their lunch.”

Nicholas gut twisted. He was avoiding eating with them from the past four days, always finding excuses to eat alone or with his clients. Lunch time’s usually rowdy and loud, a perfect chance for Alyssa to corner him and question him. That’s why like a coward he’s been dodging the cafe downstairs and instead ordering food from the nearby restaurant.

“Uhh...I actually-” His sentence got cut off by another knock on the door.

The Alpha didn’t have to turn around to recognise the thick delicate scent hitting his nostrils. Trying not to inhale more of it, he simply motioned for Alyssa to come in. As she got closer, the flowery scent got stronger, almost enticing him to look up and meet her eyes.

She stood in front him, her mouth twisted. “Will you join us?”

His throat felt dry at her pointed stare like she was trying to figure out and read his mind—both dangerous combination. Nicholas quickly looked away, opting to stare at his friend instead. “Adrian...I don’t think I can join you today. You both can carry on, yeah?”

Adrian huffed. “Again? What now?”

He stuttered, his face blank. “I-It’s an urgent phone call from investors.”

The Alpha could feel his assistants stare on him, obviously aware of his lie. He had no prior meetings set up. His schedule was clear after lunch time which was a miracle indeed. She did not call him out on his lie, though.

His friend stood up, an exasperated sigh leaving his lips. “Fine. I’ll see you in the evening, I guess.”

Adrian turned to his girlfriend. “Alyssa let’s go.”

The omega politely shook her head, her teeth grind together. “You go ahead. I have to talk with Nicholas about that phone call.”

Nicholas's eyes widened at that. No! No! She can’t be left alone with him. He opened his mouth to say something but Adrian was already inching to the door.

“Sure. Come back soon.”

With that, the door closed behind him.

Nicholas squirmed, all the while observing her through his lashes, the way she had her bottom lip caught between her canines.

“Why are you ignoring me?” She asked, her voice rigid and pointed—no room for nonsense.

Straight to the point, huh. He swallowed the lump in his throat. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

Alyssa whimpered. “Please don’t lie to my face Nicholas. I can see it. You have stopped eating with me. Whenever I want to talk, you make an excuse and walk away.” Her voice dropped. “You don’t even respond to my messages anymore.”

The tension in the room was thick, almost like you cut through a knife.

“Uh-I...”

She met his eyes. “I want to know the truth.”

He winced at her tone. The Alpha thought about it. There’s no way he wanted to tell her, but the devastated look in her eyes, that defeated face and slumped shoulders left him with no choice.

It’s hurting her too. He realised. The distance between them was driving her insane as well.

She took a step further. “Why are you ignoring me?”

“Because I like you!” There he said it.

The silence stretched between them after his confession. The Alpha kept staring at the floor, his stomach in knots. He didn't know how long the stillness settled over them before he heard her. Quiet and frail. Almost like she was scared.

“Really?” She whined, so alive, so hot that he snapped his attention at her.

Red bloomed all over her. Everywhere.

Anticipation curled in his belly, his breaths erratic as his cock throbbed fiercely, confined in his trousers. Did that excite her? As the Alpha prowled towards her, he noticed her tremble.

Once he’s towering over her, seemingly huge, compared to her tiny frame, Nicholas felt like he couldn’t breathe.

“Yeah”

Her back bowed at his tone. He raked his eyes down, noticing her erect nipples visible against her yellow turtleneck top, all right and begging for attention. The omegas breathing quickened, sweat making her clothes stick to her body.

Taking a step forward, she lifted her arms and circled the Alpha's neck, hands slipping in his curls, fisting his thick hair. “Do it, please. Kiss me.”

A moment of weakness. A moment of need.

Nicholas leaned into her and put his mouth right on the omegas, brushing his lips hesitantly. She ran her hands up his arms, leaving goosebumps as she encouragingly breathed. “More.”

Clinging to control himself, the Alpha stroked her mouth with more pressure. She followed his lead, and before he can stop himself, he ran his tongue across the velvet flesh of her bottom lip.

With a soft sigh, Alyssa parted her mouth, and he had no choice but to taste, couldn't possibly turn away.

His tongue slipped in her soft wet mouth, tasting her as she let out a breathless mewl. Her tongue met his with a soft flick that set a fire off in his groin.

As she tried to get even closer, alarms rang in his head, reminding Nicholas about her relation.

“Alyssa, I...should stop.”

“Please no” The omega mumbled, her voice straining.

“You aren't thinking–,”

“Don’t stop, Nicholas...” She moaned, her nails digging into his shoulders, the sting cutting him a new sensation. With a ragged breath, he retook her mouth—bad idea.

The harder he kissed her, the harder Alyssa kissed back until he's dominating her mouth, teeth clamping down on her bottom lip.

“Oh,” She gasped, so puzzled, so sexual, the Alpha felt his dick twitched.

She moaned breathily into his mouth. It's the taste of her mouth, so sweet, taking his mind to another place. It terrified him.

Already on edge, Nicholas pulled away from her lips, unable to control himself anymore. It was a dangerous game. As his mouth pressed to her temple, chaste the omega panted underneath him. “T-That was nice.”

One way to name it. Nice.

“Yeah,” The Alpha whispered, his voice raspy.

“C-Can we do that again?” Alyssa licked her swollen lips, making them glisten under the light.

He pulled her again, pressing his lips against her. His tongue teased her again. Her hands immediately tugged at his hair, the sharp pain causing his cock to throb as he held her also, keeping his hands to himself.

“You are so sweet,” Nicholas groaned into her mouth, taking her bottom lip between his teeth again just to hear that gasping whimper. He’s so fucked.
