51. Truth about Liam

Adrian reached forward and began tracing his name across her naked chest.

“What are you doing?” The omega asked, soaping up her hands before she rubbed them up and down his arms. He relished in the way her fingers danced across his skin, so delicate and soft.

“Just wishing my name would appear across your skin.” He said quietly, his eyes narrowed in concentration. The Alpha bit his plush lip as he made a particularly curly A with the cursive font and all. Just the thought of his name across her name made his cock twitch.

“You are so sappy,” She giggled, rolling her eyes as her fingers rubbed soapy circles across his pecs. “Besides, why do I have to be the one to get your name all over my body? Why can't you put my name on yours?”

Teasingly, she tapped her fingers out right over his heart. “Mmh right here. My name would look perfect right here.”

His breath caught in his throat. Why had he never thought of that? Alyssa's name would look perfect right there. She was a genius. He had the worlds smartest omega standing right in front of him.

As if she realised the thoughts going on in his head, Alyssa made a sound. “I was kidding,” The omega said. “Don't get my name tattooed anywhere on your body. I mean it, Adrian.”

“Yes, omega.” He rolled his eyes, biting back a smile.

Adrian felt his gut clench at the memory. He was so in love with her. It wasn’t a groundbreaking realisation. He wasn’t shaken to his core or shocked or surprised. It was a gradual moment of understanding. His brain thinking: yes, this is what it feels like. This is what love feels like. Accepting that his two best friends were also in love with her was a bit difficult in the beginning. Seeing the way they treated her with so much love and care he got around it. Nothing could deny the fact that they were meant to be together.

Adrian could see himself growing up with Alyssa. Their courtship turning into a permanent bond and eventually mating her, having a family with the omega and pups. Lots of them.

It should have been scarier than it was, but Adrian wasn’t afraid. He was steady. The Alpha was sure. He knew this was a forever kind of thing. He couldn’t imagine anything breaking them apart until she left them, of course. It’s been seventy-two hours, and he was going out of his mind thinking about all different scenarios.

The Alpha just wanted her back with him. That’s all.

Nicholas was the one who got the call. He signalled his best friends when he noticed its Alyssa. They all held their breaths. It’s been a long three days of radio silence from her side, and the wait was killing them. That’s when they realised how much they missed having her around.

Eric nudged him to slid on the green icon.

“Hello?” A soft tone drawled from the other side.

Adrian was the first to respond. “Baby what’s going on? Why aren't you picking up our calls?”

She made a wheezing sound, her breathing choppy and fast. Something was wrong with her. It was so uncharacteristic of her to stay quiet.

“Alyssa” Nicholas whispered.

“I-It’s Liam. He's my promised.”

“Liam, as in our competitor and Erics biggest enemy?” Adrian emphasised.

Nicholas nudged him. “How many Liams do you know?”

Alyssa interrupted them. “Yeah that Liam”

Eric froze. His whole world came crashing as the name echoed in his ears. The Alpha couldn’t believe it. What are the chances? He noticed both his friends staring at him, their eyes wide. They knew. Liam would never let go of the opportunity. He had them where he wanted. At their weakest.

Nicholas cleared his throat. “D-Did you talk to him?”

Alyssa sniffled. “I tried...He told me that he doesn’t care about any of it and he’ll proceed with the ceremony. Make me...his mate.”

Eric's blood boiled. So typical of him. Liam already harboured hatred for the company and also had a personal vendetta against Eric. No wonder he was not backing away. Even though he would never come to love Alyssa the way they do, it was just a petty rivalry for him. That bothered Eric the most.

Adrian cursed under his breath.

“That asshole” Nicholas growled. “Okay...Okay, we will figure this out. When is the ceremony?”

“T-Tomorrow midnight.”

“What?!” Eric yelled.

There’s always a week or two time of courtship before the promised are mated. The Alpha can shorten the term but denying it completely sounded so suspicious. Why was Liam in such a hurry? Something didn’t sit right with Eric.

“Where are you right now?”

“With my mom” She answered, her voice confused.

“Okay... stay put. We are on our way.”

“You’re coming here?”

Nicholas hummed. “That’s the only way. Liam needs to be dealt with.”

“I know but maybe I can...”

Adrian sighed. “You’ve done enough Alyssa. He won’t listen to anything. We know him. Let us handle this, alright?”

There was silence from her side before she made a non committal sound. “Okay”

As soon as the line went dead, Adrian turned towards them. “So we have to go to Alyssas pack-house.”

They quickly packed two sets of clothes and were on the way out. The door opened. Time stopped for Eric.

He took a step back, mouth falling open in shock as his eyes focused on the person standing in the doorway.

“Penelope,” Adrian gasped.

Eric couldn’t breathe. He was frozen in time. Stuck and unable to move, to process, to comprehend what- who was standing in front of him. This was a dream. It had to be. This couldn't be real.

She couldn't be real. Penelope Merri, the ex-love of his life, the one who he would once give up everything for, the one who shattered his heart into a million pieces by cheating on him. The omega turned to look at all of them, pale and sounded nervous as she said, “Hi?”

“W-What are you are doing here?” Eric swallowed, his voice still caught in his throat.

He stared at her. She was dressed in a long peach dress, her hair tied up. They were shorter. The omega looked older now, her cheekbones more hollow and face matured past her years. How long it’s been since he last saw her? Eric can't even remember.

“Uh...I came to talk to you,” She said, giving him a half-smile.

He blinked, suddenly wincing at the awkwardness in the room. Eric could feel his best friends staring at him.

“Okay...” The Alpha said, moving aside for his ex-girlfriend to enter.

Nicholas and Adrain cleared their throats. “We’ll go wait outside.”

Before he had a chance to stop them, they were out of the doors. Eric let out a sigh. Guess he had to deal with her all on his own.

“Anything in particular?” Eric asked, hoping the affectedness wouldn’t show in his voice. Somehow the Alpha knew that it must be related to Liam. After all, he's still dating her.

“Alyssa.”

At the mention of his omega, Eric sat up, his jaw clenched. Why was she mentioning Alyssa? How did she know about her? Maybe through Liam but still it concerned him.

“What about her?”

She nervously tugged at the loose threads of her bracelet, ignoring his stare and awkwardly glancing away. The silence was stifling. When she looked back a third time, Eric cleared his throat, his hands curling together.

“I don’t have all day to spare, Penelope.”

She sighed, “Look, I don't know how to say this as I may get in trouble, but Liam...he’s not what he says he is.”

“Huh?” he asked worriedly.

“It’s just… do you truly care about Alyssa?”

Eric blinked, taken aback, “As I’m courting her at the moment I would say yes. Of course, I care.”

“But like, romantically?” She asked.

Oh. Was she suddenly jealous? He was not playing this game with her. Now when his omega was in danger. Eric felt nothing but pity for her.

“I don’t see why it’s any of your business.”

“Please…just answer me.”

Eric didn’t even have to think about it. “I love her”

He noticed the way Penelope’s face fell at his confession. The Alpha couldn’t care less because that’s the truth. Alyssa was it for him. He loved her.

She swallowed noisily, blinking back her eyes. “O-Okay...then you need to know this. Liam is using her to get back at you.”

Fuck! He had his doubts about that. No-no-no. But his innocent omega. Shaking his head. Eric closed his eyes, unable to get the picture out of his head. With his teeth gritted, he glared at her. “Why are you helping me?”

“Because I don’t want Liam to destroy any more lives” She sobbed. “I can’t believe that I did that to you for someone like him.”

Eric bit his lip so hard, the metallic taste of blood met his tongue, and he swallowed roughly. There was no use in crying over split blood. Atleast he wasn’t holding on to his past anymore. Strange enough, it didn’t haunt him anymore. Those nightmares about being cheated ever since he met Alyssa.

“I’m so sorry, Eric” Penelope sniffled, her entire body shaking.

His heart twisted a bit. He handed her his handkerchief. “Umm...it’s alright now. I forgive you.”
