40. The Dinner Date

Adrian was right. She loved the flowers. The omega quickly put them on her table before going along with him.

Nicholas wanted to hold her hand. He realised it was the simplest of things, and even couples that had started newly dating usually did it. It was a sign that alpha and omega were more than just companions or acquaintances.

The Alpha simply couldn’t bring him to it. Every time he thought about it, he became acutely aware of the sweat on his palms. He found himself continually looking down on her short, thin fingers delicately folded by her sides. He wondered if she would notice him sweating.

They walked side by side after he parked his car and handed the keys to the valet. He battled with himself while Alyssa talked to fill the air. She was nervously rambling at this point, and he could quickly figure it out. Eventually, the omega breathed out hard, shaking her head and placing a hand over her heart.

“I’m sorry,” She bit her lips. “Um, I’m a little nervous. Is it silly that I’m nervous?”

“No,” He said, and then smiled sheepishly, “I’m nervous, too.”

“I wouldn’t think you would be.”

“I am,” Nicholas chuckled, “I really am.”

Her eyes snapped back at him for a long moment before she curtly nodded her head. There was a healthy flush sitting on her cheeks. It made his insides curl.

“I haven’t been out on a date in a while, so that’s why I’m nervous” He cleared his throat.

It’s true. Nicholas felt like he hadn’t been on a date in ages. The thrill of it all excited him. Arranging flowers, taking the omega out on dinner and talking with them till it’s late at night.

“Mmh” She made a sound.

“What does it feel like for you?”

“Like I’m going to vomit and faint,” She answered truthfully. “But that I couldn’t be happier about it.”

He stared at the side of her head, his breathing stuttered at the answer. The last part prickled at his skin.

“I’ll try not to do either!” She quickly said, filling the silence. “I don’t know why I said that. I’m so sorry.”

“It’s alright,” He said. It was more than fine, really. His heart was going to burst with fondness at this flushed, giggly omega at his side.

When they were standing precisely in front of the restaurant, he made sure to open the door for Alyssa, then pulled out a chair for her and ordered water and wine when the waiter came. They had never done this before, but it still excited him that there will be more of it in future.

She had a bashful smile on her face Nicholas had never seen before, and it only made him want to do every little thing for her. He wanted to fold down her napkin over her lap, call the waiter over, again and again, to keep asking for something on her benefit.

He breathed in, settling himself, and the omega broke the silence by chatting about the décor of the restaurant and asking his opinion on what she should order.

Eventually, they started talking about work, laughing at stories about rude coworkers and silly things they did. Alyssa had a soft smile on her face as she soaked everything in, telling him about her day, how much she panicked to pick a dress. It’s funny. By the time their dishes arrived, they were laughing about something that happened while Alyssa was studying.

Nicholas stared at his plate of steak with mashed potatoes and gravy while Alyssa settled for grilled chicken breast with veggies on the side. He was pretty sure it’s kale. It turned out she loved that leafy vegetable.

“Oh, and you know what else I hated!” Alyssa exclaimed, clapping her hands at the sudden memory, “My etiquette class!”

“Oh, where they showed you how to sit and what forks to use?”

“Yes,” She exhaled, “Oh my god, it’s horrible. As if omegas are uncultured creatures. I had to take that class for months on how to eat properly while my brother used to shove the food in his mouth using his bloody hands! It drove me mad.”

Nicholas laughed, shaking his head. Unfortunately, the omegas are forced to take certain classes. They pretty much shifted the conversation after that, settling for something light and breezy. Pretty much they were done with their dinner and ordered a lava cake to share.

Thats when Alyssa decided to question him.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Of course.”

“When did you first know you fancied me?”

Nicholas stopped at that, lowering the fork he had already started extending towards the cake. He could feel her eyes looking at him.

“The moment I first saw you.”

Alyssa blushed, her shoulders wriggling as she looked away “Be honest.”

“I am being honest,” He sighed.

How can he not? He must have been staring for too long because she was bright red in her face.

Carefully, Nicholas curled his fingers around her face to which she flushed again but let him. Her round lips quirked when he thumbed at the corner of her mouth. Her scent was heady and sweet, like flowers straight from spring blooming.

“I liked you from the beginning, but it took me a lot of time to realise that.”

That was all he needed to say for her to blush and giggle weakly.

“Now,” He said, his throat still unbearably thick, “Are we going to finish this cake?”

The date had been successful. He couldn’t stop smiling the entire way back home. After he dropped off Alyssa with a quick kiss on her cheek, Nicholas was already planning a second date.

Around lunchtime, he heard his office door creak.

“Hi,” He smiled, “What are you doing here?”

“I bought you lunch,” Alyssa said, pointing at the paper bag.

“You brought me lunch?” Nicholas said dumbly.

“Well, yes,” The omega licked her lips. “I know that you like my cooking. So I whipped you up a chicken sandwich and also packed fresh strawberries.”

How did he get so lucky?

Nicholas moaned as he tore a bite of his chicken cheese sandwich. He never had anything that tasty before. Alyssa joined him of course as Adrain had a lunch meeting with his client it was just two of them.

“Here,” Alyssa grinned, holding up a strawberry for him as they were done with lunch.

Nicholas smiled and reached out, only for the omega to yank it back.

“I’m feeding it to you,” Alyssa scolded, “Don’t take it.”

He laughed, his chest bubbling with warmth at the gesture.

“Alright”

The omega held out the strawberry again, and this time, he just lifted his mouth and moved his body closer to bite into the berry. He bit into the whole thing, nearly down to her fingers, which made the omega shriek and pull her hand away as soon as he had the entire fruit in his mouth.

“You can’t do that!” She cried, “You almost bit me.”

“I didn’t, though,” He said between chews, “The berries are real good.”

He picked one up, and then held it out to her.

“Want one?”

She blushed. “Yes, please.”

The omega didn’t even try to take from his fingers; instead, she carefully leaned forward to bite into it with her teeth. She did it with small, delicate bites and carefully licked her lips.

“Mmh they are sweet” She agreed, and Nicholas had to take a deep breath to settle his stomach.

“Alyssa,” He blurted out, unable to hold it in. “I had a great time last night.”

“I did too,” She agreed quickly, her smile growing bright as she said it.

“Well, I was wondering if you’d like to go out again this weekend,” He said, “Maybe you can come to my place. I’ll cook for you this time.”

“Oh,” She gasped. “That sounds lovely.”

Alyssa agreed. Just like that. He couldn’t believe it.

“Great! I’ll text you the address.”

As she was leaving his office, the Alpha reached out, holding her around the middle, “Can I kiss you?”

“Yes,” She let out a whine.

He pressed his mouth down to the omega. Her lips were cautious again, delicate and pressed tight, and slowly, he opened his mouth. She didn’t follow him, so he teased his tongue out, prodding at the seam of her lips until the omega gasped and pulled back a little.

“Oh,” She gasped out quietly in his mouth.

He teased her again, and this time, the omega mouth opened slowly, letting him slip into the wet warmth,

Alyssa's lips moving carefully around his open mouth. His hand tugged on the back of her head, pulling her closer until she was flush against his chest. The omega squeaked when he delicately rubbed at her sides before softly pecking one last kiss on her. Her mouth was still open and breathing hard and fast.

Nicholas was desperately trying not to get hard.
