23. Nicholas Realisation
Nicholas was sitting in his office chair wearing a pair of black glasses that he quickly discarded after seeing the omega enter the room. It made him look much older. Then again, all that working on the laptop strained his eyes if he didn’t. As he sat up back, the Alpha roamed his eyes.
He had an uneventful day. Mostly because he was trying to explain Adrain the cons of dating their assistant. Also, a huge reason why they can’t date her. His best friend seemed miffed about it, grudgingly agreeing in the end. Nicholas was aware that it’s difficult for him, having developed a bit of crush for Alyssa as well. Her truth was like a slap to his face. She didn’t hide anything. Not even the mark.
Her words rang in his head. The image of her mark burned into his brain that he can’t seem to erase. It closely resembled the heartache he suffered when the omega he had been dating turned out to be a snake. More than that, actually. The Alpha realised that he should be careful around her and try not to get too close. Promised bonds often end up in mates because the omegas easily accept their fates and he’s not ready to have his heartbroken by Alyssa.
Alyssa was holding up the steaming cup coffee in her hand along with her bag. She pushed the door behind her with her hip before placing the cup on his desk; the omega took a seat. The Alpha was looking at her carefully, almost as if calculating her.
“I’m sorry about not texting you back” The omega chewed on her lips as she pushed his coffee in front of him.
“My phone died last night. It’s very old, and I have to replace it. Also, I was so mentally drained that I just went to sleep straight away.”
Nicholas gave her a sympathetic look before taking a sip of his offered coffee. She did appear drained and not like herself at all. Did she keep herself awake at night? He had so many questions going on in his brain, muddled with his thoughts. The Alpha had texted her intending to hang out with Alyssa. He thought that maybe he’d see her outside the work and have some quiet time with her.
“Want to talk about it? I don’t have another meeting until ten.” He offered with a smile.
She let out a sigh and folded her hands together. “Where do I start?”
“Hopefully, from the beginning.”
The Alpha sat in silence after that and let her ramble on and on about her day.
He’s particularly confused about Eric behaving the way he did. Nicholas was aware that everything to his best friend was a challenge, but that’s still extreme. Then and there he decided to have a word with him later.
“That’s it” Alyssa sighed. “Now tell me what do to for the day.”
Nicholas gave her a list of things he needed to be done. Mainly his after lunch schedule because he had an evening dinner with a client. It’s something he can’t miss, and as Alyssa had no commitments, he decided to take her along with him. She readily agreed, anything to clear her mind.

After the lunchtime, Alyssa joined him for the trip. They were going to be back in the evening, so there’s nothing to prepare.
As soon as he started the car, Alyssa fell asleep. Just in less than two minutes, which made sense given the fact that she looked drained and sleep-deprived. When he stopped for gas, the omega was slightly alarmed but then fell right back to sleep.
Nicholas had a hard time keeping the smile off his face, staring at the omega in the seat. On the way he listened to various talk radio, keeping it on low voice as to not disturb the sleeping omega.
When they hit the traffic, Alyssa blinked her eyes open. A groan slipped out of his lips, and he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
Alyssa rubbed her eyes like a sleepy kitten before stretching out her little legs.
“So sorry but your car is so orgasmic.” She whispered as she twisted her body into a sitting up position.
“Glad you think so.” He responded as the omega tried to check her face in the mirror for drool discreetly.
“Did you cut the car off?” She questioned.
He raised a brow at her.
“It’s just; we haven’t moved, so I assumed.” The omega looked out the window see back to back stand still traffic. Alyssa lifted a little to try and see ahead. “Car accident?”
The Alpha laughed, shaking his head. “Welcome to the lunch rush in New York.”
Her mouth opened briefly before she frowned.
“Is it always like this?”
Her hands immediately flew towards the GPS setting, trying to check the timing.
“One of the reasons why I hate staying here.” Nicholas sighed, twisting his lips.
Actually, Nicholas wasn't going to take the highway, but it’s the only way to reach without further interruptions. Also, the client was adamant on meeting as they had to be on their way to other state. He tried asking Adrian and Erik, but they did not respond at all, so Nicholas decided to go.
“Oh so how many reasons are there exactly?” Alyssa asked with an amused grin.
“Oh, so many!” The Alpha sighed.

“I booked the room, giving them your corporate card number.” Alyssa reminded him as they reached the hotel.
“Sure. Wait here”
Nicholas handed them the card to swipe before thanking the tall man wearing a blue uniform. He handed them the room key.
They both stretched once more before walking into the doors of the hotel. The hotel was alright; lovely marble floors with gold accented decorations on the walls. Typical ceiling decorations. There were some shops to the right, he can easily spot a bar and Starbucks, and then there’s the registration desk to the left. Small town hotels.
The Alpha handed the key card to the omega, following her towards the elevator. She was hawking at every single thing, her eyes wide and mirth with amusement. He can’t help but stare at her the entire while they walked inside the elevator.
Upon entering the room, the Alpha tipped the man who showed up the way to the room.
The Alpha turned to a sheepish looking Alyssa. His brows raised after noticing there only being one bed in the suite.
“Before you get all judgmental, I warned you that I couldn’t find a better-looking hotel. Also, it’s only for one evening, so I hope it’s alright.”
Nicholas was aware about this. The small town didn’t have many hotels, but he’s not going to pass up an opportunity to tease the omega.
“Alyssa if you wanted to get me alone in a hotel room, all you had to do was ask.”
“Aren’t you full of yourself today?”
“Your impact, I guess.”
The omega flushed before taking off to the right side of the bedroom, the door leading to the washroom.
Nicholas smiled, satisfied, and looked around the room. It’s a pretty decent room, nice carpet with white walls, a massive flat screen television in the living area. It’s a deluxe suite, so the living room is separate from the bedroom.
The couch had a hideous flower pattern, but everything else was alright. Instead of heading into the bedroom, he decided to order something as Alyssa was freshening up.
He wouldn’t be having his dinner meeting until later tonight that’s why he got a mini meat bonanza pizza.
Just then, the omega came into the living room, her eyes narrowing at his meat pizza. He offered her a piece to which she hesitantly took a bite.
“Not better than what I can make, but it’s still really good,” Alyssa mumbled her response, cheeks puffed out as she chewed.
“Mmh I almost forgot you do cook, don’t you?” Nicholas hummed, remembering her telling him about her cooking abilities.
The omega nodded her head furiously now as she finished up her food. Cheeks stuffed to the brim.
“Yes, and I make the best food out there” She announced.
Nicholas turned to look at her, and for some reason, it feels like he’s looking at her for the first time. She’s so young but wise. She’s cheeky yet shy at the same time. The omegas he’s dated in the past had the only intention in their mind. Money. That’s why most of them are frocking around him. But she’s different.
Most importantly, she made him smile; which was something he hasn’t been able to do in a long time genuinely.
Why was she giving him those kinds of feelings? Why can’t he stay away from her? He liked her. That’s the only conclusion he could come up with.
