20. The Cigar Lounge

Eric stretched out his arms and legs when he arrived at his empty mansion. The silence itched at his skin, almost taunting the Alpha of his loneliness. His mouth twisted at that. He didn’t want to remember any of that. It only made him unhappy.

The presence of the housekeeper or someone else only irked him more. That’s why he asked everyone who worked in his home to vacate it before he stepped his foot in—something he had been doing for a while now.

Stripping himself of his jacket and shirt, he tossed them onto the couch.

Mostly the Alpha liked to sleep naked, but now he’s in his tights. The air in the room made his hair stand up, but the Alpha had an intense heat inside him. So the cold air around him did not make him shiver at all. With a huff, he made his way to his bedroom and sat on the comfortable king-size bed with a scowl.

Just as the Alpha leaned back, a thought struck him. Alyssa Rivers, his assistant, was a strange one.

In the three weeks, the assistant stayed within the building; she managed to defy Eric in every manner yet somehow obey his every command. Just two days ago, he gave her another hopeless task that she completed perfectly. Then again, his two other best friends always praised her and encouraged her not to leave the job. It sickened him how she had them wrapped around her little finger.

By this point in time, Eric expected her to show some attraction or liking for him. Instead, all he was met was her boldness and audacity to stand up against him. Most of the omegas would have fallen for him at this point. That was the fun part too. Seeing their weak defences be destroyed and having them slowly fall for him only to crush them in the end. Eric found joy knowing that he did that to the omegas, that he had that kind power over them.

But Alyssa still stood proud and strong and even flirted with other men. It pissed him off. How dare she do that? The moment he heard her fawning over the other Alpha, Eric almost lost it. The knowledge burned through him, and he couldn’t control it, the images of the omega with someone else drove him crazy, and he acted on his instinct.

“Alyssa Rivers” He growled. “You'll regret ever meeting me.”

Just then, his phone rang. The Alpha frowned at his mobile vibrating on the desk. He leaned down and noticed the name flash on the screen.

Eric raised his brow at that. Why was Oliver calling him at night? He slid on the green icon and pressed it against his ear. There was loud shuffling from the other side and music being played to which he winced.

“Hello?”

The Alpha almost pulled the phone away at the loud shriek.

“Oliver, why are you yelling?”

“I’m at the cigar lounge. Have you forgotten?”

Eric let out a sigh, rubbing his forehead. He did forget about it. His eyes moved towards the clock on the bedside, and it was only eight in the evening. Maybe he can still make it. After all, sleeping late wasn’t a problem for him.

“What do you think of me?! Of course, I haven’t.”

Oliver snorted “Yeah, right. You don’t have to lie"

Eric bit his tongue. He almost forgot who’s he talking to. Oliver, his friend, knew him from the longest time and knew him well after all. That’s why he shouldn’t have lied in the first place.

“Fine, I’m on my way.”

Oliver cheered. “Finally! I’m sitting in our usual hangout place. Waiting for you.”

As the line went dead, Eric discarded the phone and threw it back on the bed. Releasing a deep sigh, the Alpha stood up and walked towards his walk-in wardrobe.

The chill crisp in the air reminded Eric that its October, and he shivered for a brief moment. He parked his car before handing the keys to the valet before ushering through a large black door.

The Alpha stared at the door. It all felt so familiar. He used to hang out in there a lot before with his two other best friends. That’s where they met Oliver and partied for the entire night. Things they did during their youth always made a soft smile curl on his lips.

As he walked inside, Eric noticed the incredibly dark, sizeable black leather couches everywhere with black tables in front of them. The lounge was crowded, wealthy looking men all laughing behind a cigar; drink placed in hand.

He walked up some stairs and then headed towards a couch that’s in the back. Usually, Oliver was the one who sat there with all his friends. There were two mini black tables in front of the couch. Oliver was nowhere to be seen. Where was his friend?

With a sigh, he walked in a bar, raking his eyes across the selection of finest alcohol all displayed on the glass rack. He searched for a better drink that would allow him to vent his frustrations out on. He usually didn’t think about the omegas but this one, Alyssa only angered him further. Even though she offered him a better experience than half the secretaries in the past, and that added to her excellence, he still couldn’t treat her right.

From the corner of his eyes, a tall woman with black hair came bouncing up to him. She hesitated as her eyes roamed around him, before smirking at his suit. Of course, the omega was impressed by his expensive suit.

He rolled his eyes before turning towards the bartender and placing his order for drink and cigar order.

“Hello,” She interrupted his train of thought. Her bright blue eyes stood beside him in a short, low cut dress and a flirty grin. This omega was what many people would consider a beauty. He thought differently: she would be his distraction for a while. Only till Oliver shows up.

“Hey, beautiful” He smirked down at her. The way the stranger omega huffed out her chest and lustily gazed at him already showed she was more than willing.

“I’m Kendall” She held out her hand in his direction with a sly smirk playing on her lips. “You look familiar. Have we met before?”

The Alpha tried not to curse under his breath. He hated when the omegas recognised him. It only made them clingier. After all, an Alpha with money was the top priority.

Eric shrugged, choosing to focus on his drink instead.

“Right! I read about you. Eric Bellini, right? The founder of BEFORE?”

The Alpha nodded, though he's not interested in talking about his company. He took a sip of his whiskey, used at the bitter taste burning down his throat. It didn’t affect him anymore.

“Oh my god! You’re like a celebrity.”

“You flatter me,” Eric grinned.

“I’m so glad to meet you. You don't realise how many women want you," She took his hand, pulling him closer.

He smirked. The Alpha knew omegas wanted him. It looks like this omega wasn't nearly as intelligent as she liked to believe. Not almost as intelligent as that damn Alyssa. He was aware that he shouldn’t be doing it, but maybe this one wouldn't hurt? The logical side of the Alpha screamed; it was a bad idea, but he just didn't care. The impulsive side won, and the flirting began.

But a distraction was a distraction, no matter how dumb.

Also, why was he thinking of that assistant? She shouldn’t be the one to cross his mind. Not while he’s trying to forget her.

Just then Eric noticed the bartender handing newly filled glass to Alyssa. His eyes widened at that. Did he imagine her?

He studied her.

The Alpha snarled at the perfection that's, Alyssa. She looked flawless…again. Her skin glowed under the bar lights, made her seem angelic. Was he dreaming? Eric blinked several times, but she’s still standing in front of him, ordering a drink.

“Your place or mine?” Some Alpha tried to grab at her wrist.

His blood boiled at the thought. Abandoning his drink, he stalked towards her.

“Neither,” Eric growled.

The omegas eyes went wide as he stood beside her. Her entire body tensed as she whirled around, coming face to face with him.

Eric glared heavily at the man in front of him who took a step back. Before Alyssa could open her mouth, he wrapped his arms possessively around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"I'm her Alpha” Eric gazed into the Alphas hesitant eyes smirking. He could read every emotion behind that man's face. The fear of Eric was prominent. Stuttering out an apology, he hastily scattered away.

The Alpha let out a laugh at that just as he thought.

Alyssa squirmed in his grip; her eyes narrowed at him. “Mr Bellini” She hissed. “What the hell was that?!"
