12. Boss Adrian
The Alpha stared at his screen with a frown. He needed some help responding to emails, most of them were answered with the help of automated replies, but Adrian made sure to reply personally. Given how easily the company's technology allowed their computers to be moved from desk to desk throughout the floors, Adrian decided to call Alyssa into his office.
It’s the second week of the omegas job, and so far she didn’t burst into tears or threaten to leave, which was a victory itself. No wonder she said she’s ready for any challenge that came her way.
He buzzed the intercom because the unusually high level of traffic through reception is increasingly annoying for him. Alyssa seemed entirely oblivious to it. Perhaps it's because this type of work was very alien to her and she only really confronted the struggle to learn it. Adrian felt proud that she rarely complained about her job and always tried to figure it out on her own.
“What can I do for you, Mr Ferro?” Her professional voice echoed from the other side, a hint of amusement to it.
The Alpha let out a sigh. He was aware that she’s doing it on purpose, calling him by his last name.
“Come to my office with your laptop Miss Rivers. I have some work for you.”
“Ooh sounds exciting!” She said in a bored tone, but he could already hear the shuffling from her side. It made his lips twitch.
“See you” He pressed the button and sat back in his chair.
After a few minutes, which felt like forever to the Alpha, she showed up, clutching the laptop closer to her chest. For few seconds Adrain completely forgot that they were in his office, almost mesmerised by her graceful moments and strands of her hair kissing her cheeks. Her delicate porcelain skin almost shone at the light filtering through his drapes.
The tight pink flowery suit hugged her waist, showing off that hourglass figure. Her lips puckered as she inched towards him. The omega stood still in front of him, waiting for his further instructions when Adrian realised that he should say something.
“Good morning Ms Rivers.”
Her lips twisted in a grin. “Morning boss.”
As the tiny creature stood in his giant office, the dilemma of where to sit her to work arouse in his mind. He wanted to get to work that is waiting at his desk while only allowing her to help him some of the more straightforward tasks. Shouldn’t she be sitting nearby then? He thought to himself. They can't share his desk. It's plenty big enough, but it's also too distracting to have her so close; proximity to Alyssa makes things throbbing and hard. Also, because his desk was messy, definitely that’s why they can’t sit together.
After much thought, he decided to have her sit at a small table that he's pulled from where it was beside a chair. The series of chairs and side tables in his office were away from his formal desk, near the far end of his office. They were arranged in such a manner as to be a place to have a small meeting of two to four persons in a more leisurely setting near a wall bookshelf.
The wall of shelves was another place for suggesting wealth through collectable objects. Adrian was obsessed with bobbleheads. It also featured some of his collectors' books all selected to speak of culture and affluence. The informal seating area offered a nice place to enjoy the city view and to chat more informally.
To use one of these small side tables as a desk for Alyssa was funny. He had no other choice. Unlike his business partners, he didn’t prefer to have those plush velvet couches in his office space. They only make him want to take a nap in the middle of the day.
“Sit” He smiled at her while going back to his chair.
He's patient, kind, very encouraging as a mentor to his new personal assistant. This side of Adrains so unknown and alien to the rest of the employees. He’s friendly and helpful with them but not overly as to exert his status as boss. There’s just something about the omega makes him want to be as soft as he can be.
Clearing his throat, Adrain looked over her as she pulled the chair closer. “Now you can work here on the tasks I've just reviewed with you. I'll be at my desk answering some of the important mails. If you have any problems or questions, just ask. You'll get it with a little practice.”
The omega blinked at him, her blue eyes all so bright and earnest. “Okay! I’ll do my best.”
Leaving Alyssa to the task of familiarising himself, Adrain got back to his work. Occasionally he would look over at the omega who’s biting her plump lower lip as she thinks while trying to practice. The way she looked so innocent yet seductive in her new uniform at the same time while sitting a few inches away from his made him feel one too many thoughts which aren’t work-friendly. Adrain had to force himself to look at his work because his pants have a pronounced bulge in them.
Also, the Alpha couldn’t help but think about her attention on him. He caught her looking sometimes, and it's less than him, but there’s something alright. It only made him want to tear her into pieces so that he can be the only one who knows how to put her back together. Thinking about it is made the Alpha hard. He rubbed his palms against his thighs, the denim of his jeans scratching at his skin. He's not going to jerk off, not when she’s sitting inches away from him. The last thing he needed was to scare her away with his desire.
Besides he wanted her to work for them longer. That’s why he focused back on his work.
It wasn’t long, not long enough for his firm determination to focus on work when he heard her soft voice. She meekly called him.
“Um, Adrian, I mean, Mr Ferro, um...I, I think I just deleted everything. Like all of it, accidentally! I thought I saved it, but I can't find the file...” She rubbed her face, chewing on her lower lips.
Two things struck him at that moment. One. She called him by his name. Two. She was frightened if that distinctive raspy and a frail little voice was anything to say.
Adrian had a strict, no-nonsense policy when it came to working. He didn’t tolerate those who work for him to be reckless because they were a global company. Mistakes were not allowed.
But the shakiness to her voice with his fear of making a mistake was so cute that he didn’t have the heart to yell at her.
Taking a deep breath, he stood up and came to her side where he towered very closely beside her at this make-shift desk. Nervousness oozed off Alyssa as she doesn't look up at him, almost hugging herself.
“Show me what you did. Don't do it, but walk me through what steps you think you did. Maybe I can figure out something.”
When Alyssa began narrating what she did and how she lost the information, her small hands go to mock-touch the desktop screen. She walked the Alpha through her mistake, but the fact that her hands are shaking was unavoidable. She’s like a frightened little mouse. As cute as a tiny kitten. And dressed like, well, Adrain better not comment. He felt his heart clench as she looked so frightened she could barely speak; her voice caught up and sounded on edge to tears.
She's vulnerable. Wanting approval. His acceptance is primed.
“I didn’t mean to” The omega hiccuped.
“Alyssa I will teach you how to do the thing you did wrong properly.” With that, Adrian leaned into her space. As soon as he did, the Alpha was hit with the delicate flowery smell. Her scent made his eyes roll. It was so sharp and soft at the same time like a rush which made him squint his eyes for a while.
“Please” She whispered, almost a whine as the omega turned over her shoulder.
Adrian tried to ignore how close they were to each other. That would never get his work done, so the Alpha attempted to focus on the screen. He narrowed his eyes at the screen and quickly identified the mistake.
“See, it's there. You didn't loose the file; you made it hidden work when you clicked these two commands simultaneously. The work is there though” Adrain smiled as he took a step back.
“Does that mean I’m not fired?”
The Alpha chuckled. “No”
Elated, she stood up and threw her arms around him, a wet laugh escaping her throat. What other choice did he have than to wrap his arms too?
