18. Nicholas Knows!

The Alpha was annoyed that Adrian got to kiss the omega. Dance with her. It was supposed to be him. Naturally, Nicholas wasn't the type to be easily jealous of his friends, hell he let Eric have a chance at the omegas he liked before, and it didn’t bother him at all. But with Alyssa, it was different.

He craved for his assistant's attention, to the extent that he went to the weekend party because of her. Nicholas wanted to spend more time with her. Is that too much to ask?

Rachel, his ex ruined that for him by showing up unannounced. He did have a good chance of dancing with Alyssa after Adrian was done with her, but both of them disappeared. When his best friend told him that he kissed Alyssa, his chest panged with envy. Even though Nicholas didn’t let it show on his face, it affected him.

Also, what struck him the most was Alyssa's way of dealing with it? He thought that she would be happy with the interest Adrian showed towards her. Most of the omegas pray for that. Why did she leave? And without an explanation.

Nicholas remembered asking Adrian about it. The conversation still felt raw in his head.

“So it’s your status?” Nicholas asked, turning towards his friend.

Adrian let out a sigh, staring in the distance, “I don’t think so. There’s something else. Something she doesn’t want to tell me.”

The Alpha widened his eyes at that. He thought Adrain had a good bond with her, enough to know her secrets. What happened? Why didn’t she tell him anything? That’s strange.

“Mmh”

Adrian turned towards him. “Why don’t you ask her? Maybe she’ll tell you.”

At that, Nicholas dumbly blinked. If she didn’t tell Adrian, he highly doubted she will say to him about it. Then again, what’s the harm in trying.

With that, Nicholas marched to the office.

The Alpha was more pleased that Alyssa greeted him the first thing in the morning. A fleeting glance far lower before she returned to look at him again with a faint blush tinting her face. “Good morning, Nicholas.”

Her blush made him raise his brow in confusion.
What was she embarrassed about? Nicholas was confident that her downward glance was an indication that Alyssas thinking about the previous morning, same as him.

“Morning Alyssa” He cleared his throat with a nod acknowledging her, keeping his voice low and sultry, “See to my coffee and join me in my office. I'd like to review the schedule for today.”

She fumbled with the files in her hand before nodding her head. From the corner of his eyes, the Alpha saw her rush in the kitchen. He calmly walked in his office.

When she joined Nicholas in the office, she had a coffee in her hands, and to his surprise, the omega was wearing glasses. The glasses were a new thing. They've slipped down or electing to wear them deliberately like so. It created an instant effect to accentuate everything about the omega that was vulnerable and demur looking. Within a second of thinking about his assistant going to her knees with those glasses made his dick twitch.

The assistant set down the coffee on his desk, her hands tugging at those tight pants.

Head spinning, Nicholas cannot breathe–his knot full as his dick begged to get up in her. It had to be the sweetest part: how Alyssa stumbled around squeezing into those ripped jeans, how they hugged her hips and thighs as she tried to stand straight.

His eyes went straight to her pants. As if the omega caught his stare, she stopped her tugging and wound her hands behind her back.

“They’re new,” She whispered shyly, “And very, very tight apparently.”

“They look…nice,” Nicholas croaked.

That’s the only implicit thing he could say to save his face. She looked more than nice, alright. If they wouldn’t have been boss and employee, he, Nicholas might have approached her and take her home.

The omega snorted. “I hope so! It’s very expensive.”

Before he could say anything, she wickedly added, “Also designed by your favourite fashion designer.”

He didn’t need to have a visual of her scampering back over to the bed and crawling seductively in those jeans, surrounded by silky sheets.

Mindless, railed with instinct, the Alpha stifled a growl. He couldn’t help but think about it. About how she would look sprawled on the bed, all for him. The Alpha searched her face for any traces of fear or discomfort, but there’s nothing but her round ocean eyes dancing with curiosity, and sharp cheeks that are ripe as tomatoes and a parted supple mouth.

Tracing down his eyes over the body, he caught the flush nestled between her collarbones, spreading to her neck, which caught his attention. At sight, an overwhelming, possessive instinct flared within him once again.

At the wrong time, the Alpha realised he wants to mark her. Make her his. For the moon's sake! He wanted his unique scent all over her so no other Alpha will even go near his omega. So that they will know whom she belonged to. So that they will fear the repercussions of wanting to possess her for themselves.

Except Nicholas was aware that he had no right to do that. The omega in front of him wasn’t his. Despite all the times he thought about it, she simply wasn’t.

Underneath his solemn stare, the omega squirmed, and when he forced his stare to meet her round, innocent eyes, he noticed those black-rimmed glasses.

“You're wearing glasses,” Nicholas remarked, trying to change the topic.

“Yes.”

“That's new.”

“Yes.”

“They look nice. Near-sighted?”

She shook her head, chewing on her lips. “They aren't prescription ones. My mum said it's a good idea for reducing eye strain if I'm going to be looking at a computer screen all day.”

In the process, the Alpha noticed how her voice quivered, had a little shakiness to her hands as she folded them together.

“Alyssa are you nervous or something?”

“Yes, sir.” She said as she tugged at the shirt the way she did so often.

He frowned at that. Why was she nervous? It’s just him. Then it clicked him that the omega must be thinking of the previous morning. She did look reserved the moment she noticed Nicholas in Adrian's office.

“But why? Is it perhaps because of yesterday morning?”

“Yes,” More shirt tugging, enough so that the sheer part of the garment is pulled to the side. The Alpha could see the wire of her bra. He noticed Alyssa quickly let go of the shirt and the seam running right over her breast.

“Adrian might have told you about what happened...between us. I don’t want you to hate me for the way I reacted at the party and left your best friend behind without an explanation.”

Oh. That’s why she’s worried.

Alyssa looked down, perhaps afraid to make eye contact, her feet pressed together. He didn’t answer for a while, his eyes following her every moment. The Alpha didn’t know whether to be delighted that she was thinking about him hating her or not.

“Hum,” Nicholas muttered to suggest he was thinking how to answer her.

Few minutes passed by when the omega looked up. “You okay?”

Concern dripped from her voice.

“No,” He said, his voice sharp and cutting through the tension in the room.

A low gasp slipped her lips as she stared at him as if trying to figure out.

“I won’t be until you tell me the truth” On their own accord his hands worked, somehow his fingers swept the messy strands of hair falling on his forehead.

“What truth?” She whispered, licking her lips.

“You know what I’m talking about Alyssa.”

Cruel, his ribcage constricted around his heart, but it’s barely felt with the way she bent her head down. Alyssa refused to meet his eyes like there’s something she doesn’t want to hell. The Alpha wasn’t the one to give up easily. He had to find the truth. For Adrian. Also for himself.

“Why did you reject Adrian?” Of course, he asked because he had no control over himself right now, and he just…needs to know this.

She shot her head up, eyes wide. “I didn’t reject him!”

“Well, you did something...Why?”

“I can’t...” She whispered in a painful tone, folding her lips together.

But he was adamant on knowing the truth—the reason behind her reluctance.

“Tell me,” Nicholas demanded. “What’s on your mind, omega?”

She gulped. “I can’t tell you, but I can show you.”

The Alpha narrowed his eyes at her. The omega walked towards him and held out her hand. He blinked in confusion. What was she going?

Nicholas held his breath as she turned over her wrist. The tiny half-moon mark stared back at him. A guttural sound slipped his lips.

“You’re promised?”

Alyssa sniffled, nodding her head.
