45. Erics Anger
Alyssa was in the middle of filing some papers when she heard Eric angrily shout outside of his office. She was perplexed. It was a known fact that he often got angry, sometimes at the smallest of things, but he never made a scene. Must be serious then. Whoever it was, she mentally prayed for them.
She was about to go back to filing the papers since it was none of her business who he was yelling about when she heard her name being called by Eric in an angry voice. The omega dropped the papers in her hands. With a gulp, because this was bound to end badly, she made her way out of the office and came face to face with a furious looking Eric. His hands were clenched in fists, his eyebrows were furrowed, and his face was red. His anger only seemed to increase at seeing Alyssa, and that's when she realised that she was in big trouble.
From the corner of her eyes, she could see the employees trying to catch a sight of her. Nothing entertained them more than Eric yelling at someone for not doing their work. Weirdos. Ignoring them, she focused her attention back to Eric, trying to figure out why he's so mad. She did everything he asked her to and on time which should have been given some credit. Then again, the omega knew better than to expect praises and compliments from Eric of all bosses.
"Come to my office" He bellowed. "Now!"
She meekly followed him; her heart caught in her throat the entire time.
"How dare you?!" Eric yelled, looking as if it was taking all the control he could muster not to punch the nearest wall. "How could you do this to me? To my company?"
She blinked at him, trying to understand what he's getting at. Alyssa still had no idea even though she ran like a thousand different scenarios in her head.
“You ruined the company's chance of getting that partnership! That's just low! Even for you.”
She stared at him, dumbfounded. Ruin the company's chances? Alyssa didn't do anything of the sort.
“Mr Bellini, what are you talking about?” Alyssa croaked, her hands pressed together in front of her. The Alpha took a menacing step close to her, almost making her breath hitch in her throat.
“Don't act innocent Alyssa! The managers of the company told me that they received an email sent from me with the ridiculous texts that don’t even make sense and an attachment of an emoji. Are you insane? I just spent half an hour on the phone trying to explain to them that it was just a mistake and that I wasn't the one who sent that!” Eric growled, tugging at his hair sharply.
That’s when she realised he was talking about that email she helped him write. It was late at night, and Eric was tired, so she offered to help. But she had copied the draft and emailed it to the managers like Eric had told her to do. She might have been exhausted, but she knew that the words were not twisted.
Shit! Alyssa should’ve known better to do that, but she didn’t listen and went ahead and typed the entire document till bloody three in the morning. And what did she get in return of that? Nothing! How can he even accuse her of doing something like that? She thought that they were finally past that stage where he didn’t trust her at all.
Licking her lips, she met his eyes. “I swear I did no such thing! I spent till three o'clock in the morning typing in that draft, and as soon as I finished it, I saved it on the pen drive that was on your desk. Why would I do that when I know how much that meant to you?”
Her lips quirked.
Alyssa also realised that when she came back, the email was already sent. Something she doesn’t remember doing but that late at night the omega brushed it off. Maybe she should have checked it twice before closing off the laptop. It would have saved her a lot of trouble.
The Alpha laughed a humourless laugh. The sound was so hollow and bitter that it made her gut clench. If he was planning to hurt her, then he’s succeeding.
“Save it, Miss Rivers! It may be your revenge for the way I treated you in the beginning. Who knows!” He harshly spat.
She recoiled at those words.
“Thankfully, I managed to convince them that I wasn't the one who sent them that email and they've given me another chance to send them the draft.”
Relief sank in her bones. That was nice to hear. She still didn’t understand who could have done that with the email.
“However” Eric cleared his throat. “You are fired as my assistant. I don’t want you working here anymore.”
Alyssa didn’t know what she was supposed to do. The omega couldn't believe she had gotten fired after not even four months at her job and for something she hadn't even done. There was no way she could afford living in New York without her job and look for another one. No one would hire her!
“Mr Bellini, please listen to me...I admit I typed that document, but it wasn’t-”
"Shut it, Miss Rivers! I don’t want to hear another word from you. I want you packed and out of here by today, and you're not welcome here anymore. No one gets away after playing such a cheap prank!” Eric huffed, stalking towards his chair and angrily plopping on it.
Alyssa stared at him for a few seconds before, having no idea what to do. He was not in a mood to listen. The more she thought about the outcome, her eyes pooled with tears. As she exited his office, she felt her cheeks turn red at seeing all the colleagues staring at her.
Bending her head down, she walked only to collide with a rigid body.
Nicholas stopped her, his arms coming around her waist. When he tilted her head, his eyes widened at the tears streaming down her face. He put two and two together and clenched his jaw, glaring at the door behind her. Before he could take a step further, she held him back, placing a hand on his chest.
“Nicholas please”
“I’m going to kill him!”
Alyssa sniffled, wrapping her hands around his neck. “No, you are not doing to do anything of that sort.”
He deflated suddenly. “Atleast let me talk to him.”
“Promise you won’t yell.”
“Fine” He grunted and let her walk away.

Alyssa quickly made her way to what had been her office a few minutes before without looking at anyone, hoping to get this over with as soon as possible. She quickly threw the basic needs in her suitcase while her eyes fell on the papers sitting in the corner. The omega picked them up only to notice that they were the drafts of the email she sent to those managers on Eric's behalf. Her eyes scanned the papers, and she felt her lips twitch. It was the original one. She couldn’t wait to shove that in Eric's face and prove her innocence.
Determined, she stepped out of her office only to find everyone gathered near the hallway, peeking at her and Erics office. They were talking about what had happened between her and Eric. Gossipmongers!
She shook her head and headed straight towards Eric office.
“If she’s not the one who sent that disgusting email then who did it?” Eric's voice was heard as she stood in front of his office. Ignoring the remark, she pushed the door and stepped forward, not caring that Nicholas was standing there as well.
“Why don’t you figure that out after you’ve read this?”
Before he could even say a word, Alyssa slammed a pack of papers on his desk. She hoped it would be enough for him to know that she's not the one. Alyssa was hurt that he could ever think that.
Eric blinked up at her; his eyes narrowed as she stood in front of him. The omega was not intimidated by his stare. She did not do anything wrong, after all.
"What are these?"
"Printed copies of the documents I typed before someone sent them. You should take a look at these" The omega said with a frown.
He looked at her confused then grabbed the papers and started looking at them. She noticed him turning pale, the more he read of them. It was the complete draft, done and written to the last detail.
"You printed them?" He asked in a shaky voice.
Nicholas beamed at the omega.
She swallowed noisily. "Yeah...I thought it's better to keep a record of them."
"And don't worry the office will be empty by tomorrow for the new secretary" With that she stormed out of the office, not even bothering to turn back and look at the Alphas behind her.
