CHAPTER 24

THREE YEARS AGO
After bullshitting her way out of the Drysdale villa, Vanity managed to flee. The only place she considered going was to Nolan; he loved her and there was no way he would refuse to assist her and take her in.
She couldn't go see the Drysdale elders because she was afraid, they were involved in all of this and would get rid of her once they found out about the family secret, but Nolan was different. He had always treated her well, so she was confident that he would assist her.
So, Vanity went to see her, and although he was surprised to see that she had come to see him, he still welcomed her with a smile, which put her at ease. She told him everything after taking a shower and eating some snacks and juice.
She was naive at the time to believe that Nolan would side with a clone while the real person was still alive and well. He didn't show his disgust or any other negative emotion, but instead gave her a place to rest while he investigated the story. He promised to protect her no matter what happened and that she could count on him.
She had only been in her dream for a few hours when she overheard Nolan's men discussing getting rid of her, and it dawned on her that she was in big trouble.
She pretended to sleep in order not to wake anyone and waited for an opportunity to flee. She packed light once more and fled through the window in the middle of the night.
She had a day advantage by the time they realized she was gone. Nolan managed to find her even after she had hidden herself in that cabin in the middle of the woods. She ran for her life, begged for it, but he was determined to kill her.
Only the real Gwen was allowed to live, and only she has the right to be his wife, not some lab-created chick. She was so hurt to think that the person who had made her so happy for so many years was now looking at her as if she were some disgusting pests who needed to be killed to make things right.
She became so frustrated with being pursued that she threw herself off the cliff after being shot by Nolan himself. He truly intended to kill her, and when she fell off the cliff, she assumed she was going to die, but something happened to her.
She was bitten by something while in those deep waters, and by the time she came to be, she had already transformed into a blood sucking vampire. Her first kill was a deer she came across; she remembered draining the poor creature dry, but it didn't feel like enough.
For a few days, she experimented extensively and discovered that she could no longer eat any human food, that there was no longer any sunlight, and that the city was so dangerous that she had to flee.
She didn't have any identification on her, so she couldn't use normal modes of transportation.
When she was desperate, she realized she possessed several abilities, one of which was the ability to move extremely quickly, and thanks to that ability, all she had to do was run and go places.
She met a lot of people on her journey to nowhere in particular, and she killed a lot of people for food.
Despite her reluctance, the vampire in her desired to tear apart any human being she came across. So, to quench her thirst for blood, she ended up attacking any bad person she saw, justifying her actions to herself by claiming that they deserved it.
After a while of wandering, she came across a wonderful granny who gave her a place to live despite knowing the kind of person she was. That granny was the one who helped her overcome her addiction to human blood. She discovered how to substitute human blood for animal blood, and it worked well if she took it in large quantities.
She had to go hunting every three days to keep herself sane, and she had gained a lot of experience over time. She gave the carcasses to the granny to eat and sell to make some money.
Life was not on Granny's side when the old woman died, and she had to relocate after burying her. She lived a nomadic life until she met the hacker who gave her a new identity so she could appear freely in public.
She moved from place to place, working odd jobs such as waitressing, bartending, and occasionally as a maid. It was only by a stroke of luck that she was able to walk in broad daylight and eat human food again.
She thought she'd been cured, but it turned out that despite her human appearance, she was still a vampire who had been upgraded to be a day lighter, which was one of a kind.
At the very least, she appeared normal to others. This also came with the perks of having to feed herself at least twice a month in full, which was why she disappeared every weekend when she took time off from working for Chandler.
Vanity also explained how the two ended up in their current relationship. how Chandler came home drunk and how she took care of him and only got cleanly eaten in return She also explained how they married the following day.
She skipped over unrelated events and narrated what happened when she was kidnapped, as well as the people involved in the whole thing.
“I didn't have a choice but to kill them before they came for all of you. I saw how much hatred that bastard had for this family, and I couldn't let it happen. Anything can happen to me, but I will not let it happen to my husband, Heidi, or any of you. You are the family I never had, and I will go to any length to keep you safe, even if it means killing again,” Vanity said, tears streaming down her cheeks.
She was staring at the fluffy carpet in the sitting room rather than at anyone.
The room had gone quiet a long time ago when she began narrating the entire story; this narrating had taken more than an hour, and everyone had an angry expression on their faces.
Jerome's beard was flying from rage; he couldn't believe that some people could kill another just because the other was a clone. This young girl appeared to him to be very human, rather than a lab-created clone.
