CHAPTER 27
“Are you finished changing?” The question came from Vanity, who was smiling brightly at him like a teenager.
Heidi melted that his face paralysis crumbled at the sight of that bright smile and returned that smile to him.
“Um, I think I'm done. Can we leave now?” he asked, smiling as he approached her.
“Umm, everything is done here. Let's go, there are so many places I want to visit with you,” Vanity said eagerly, taking his small hand in hers.
The guards smiled as they watched the couple walk outside to their car. Vanity had requested that she drive her car without a driver because she wanted this date to be special.
She worked tirelessly for days to persuade her husband to agree, and she eventually agreed that the guards would be following her.
Unlike the last time, the number of guards had doubled, which she didn't mind as long as she and Heidi were in the car. She will deal with any problems that arise, even if it means massacring in the middle of the day.
The two climbed into the yellow sports car that Chandler had purchased as a gift for Vanity because she didn't have a car of her own. Before the car sped away, Vanity gave Heidi an eerie smile as she buckled up.
The two laughed happily as the car sped away, the fact that the guards were following them in a hurry because of what Vanity had done adding to the fun.
Chandler, who was busy signing off documents in his office, received a call informing him of what the young madam had done, and he simply smiled, knowing that she was just being mischievous. She instructed the guard to keep a close eye on her so that the abduction case would not be repeated.
“Wow! This is awesome!” Heidi exclaimed as his stepmother expertly drove the sports car.
“I'm just getting used to it; we should go on more drives,” she said cheerfully.
“Have you ever driven like this before?” Heidi was taken aback by this new revelation. He was seeing her in a new light.
Vanity smiled at the young man and began to boast about herself in a humble manner.
“My family did not allow me to drive alone or go anywhere specific. I had to be driven everywhere, but after I lost them, I decided to rely on myself and get my driver's license. I used to drive, but I couldn't afford to buy a car, so I never had one. So, this is my first car and my first time driving in this manner. I've always wanted to do this, so I'm glad to do it, and don't worry, I'll never let anything happen to you,” Vanity said brightly as her foot pressed the pedal.
“I know,” Heidi murmured in response to the last words Vanity spoke. He'd been through it before, so he knew how far his mother would go to keep everyone safe.
No one had ever done that for him, which is why he was grateful to her and was more than willing to call this young woman his mother rather than his biological mother, who rarely saw him or spent time with him.
“I know I won't be able to replace your biological mother, but I promise you that I will love you as if you were my own. All I ask is that the three of us stay together until the end of time; as long as you and your father are happy, I will be at ease,” Vanity said, her voice filled with emotion.
Her vampire identity made her eternal, which meant that one day both Chandler and Heidi would leave her, which she was not looking forward to.
To forget about all the stressful things, she decided to be happy and make as many memories as she could. And if the day comes when everyone she cares about abandons her, she will send herself into an eternal slumber, never to awaken again, because a life without them is useless and pointless.
“I'll always be with you mom, let's go have some fun,” Heidi said as he took her hand in his. He'd seen how emotional she was and all he wanted was for her to be happy.
Hearing such words from Vanity made Heidi feel a lot better, causing him to sigh with relief. If that monster of a father finds out that he has made her sad, the punishment will be severe.
The two eventually arrived at their first destination, an amusement park. As amusing as it sounds, the two had never been to one before, which explains why they were so eager to go. With the guards in tow, the two went to buy their tickets after parking the car.
Chandler had told them to take as many pictures as they could to remember this moment and to keep them safe. Vanity asked eagerly, "which one should we go to first?"
Heidi looked at Vanity, who was staring at him with such excitement that her eyes twinkled in the bright sunlight like stars in a starry sky.
“Why don't we go on all of them?” Heidi proposed because he, too, was eager to experience the rides that everyone raved about.
He had never been to an amusement park before, but since he had finally made it, he decided to have fun and visit other places next time. They still have time to do so.
“Let's go with that,” Vanity quickly agreed because she didn't find the suggestion difficult.
Just like that, the two were busy trying out every single ride in the park. They were the calmest of the guests when they visited the haunted house; after all, they had seen scarier things in real life than these bogus ghosts.
Chandler couldn't help but laugh when he got the hourly reports on the two. He appeared to be responsible for two children instead of one. Who'd have guessed they were a mother and son duo?
Every time the reports came in, all he could say was, "just make sure they're safe."
He felt lighter and happier after looking at the happy smiles of the two most important people in his life. He would do anything to keep his happiness, and it was time to collect what these two families owed him and his wife.
