His Sunshine – Part l
"He found me in the rehabilitation centre. He took me in as his child." Onyx's mouth dropped slightly open, and he stared at her for a moment. All the images of Ophelia and Mason played through his mind and not for a moment did he think they weren't biologically related. Even so, you don't have to be biologically related to share something as beautiful as a father-daughter bond.
"I went through so much pain both mental and physical throughout those early years of my life. I couldn't walk for months and couldn't sleep for nights on end. The nightmares of the crash kept me awake. I even had difficulty remembering things for a short period of time. My head injury had resulted in a severe migraine. I don't think I would have survived if Dad hadn't been there to support me.
Ophelia smiled and went on. "You know, Onyx, before Dad came into my life, I never imagined I'd be able to feel or understand what love is. I never expected to be cared for. He appeared in my life like an angel sent from whoever exists above. I couldn't eat by myself, get out of bed, or even use the restroom. Even though Dad was extremely busy at the time, he never left me alone. He'd take me to his office, where he'd work while I played on the cushioned floor. Slowly, my wounds healed, my broken bones healed and reattached themselves, and I grew up. But, over the years, a seed of hatred and disgust germinated in my heart. And I began to despise both the scar on my leg and the woman." Ophelia hissed as she looked down at the jagged scar on her thigh.
"I despise her for doing all of those things to me, and I despise this scar for reminding me of how cruel fate and the world are. I despise this scar because it reminds me of how ugly my childhood was. And I despise how ugly it has made me!" Ophelia hissed, closing her eyes tightly. Onyx's jaw clenched slightly at her word. His palms gently grasped her face and pulled her head up to look at him.
"That scar on your leg doesn't make you ugly, meng léift. It just goes to show how strong you are to get through all of that and not break. It only shows how brave you are to face life head-on, despite the cruel woman's attempts to destroy it. This scar, if anything, only adds to your beauty. It's a symbol of what you've been through and how strong you've remained. You are beautiful. You are strong. You are fierce as a Fuuss. Du bass mäin Schatz!" Onyx's voice was replete with respect and admiration as Ophelia stared up at his shimmering browns and glossy eyes. Onyx pressed his lips against hers in a loving kiss and rested his forehead against hers. Onyx sighed and muttered with a smile.
(You are my treasure!)
"Every blemish, every imperfection, every scar and every spot on your body makes you who you are. So never, ever hate yourself for something that is a part of who you are." Onyx pressed his lips against her forehead, and Ophelia wrapped her arms around him. Onyx drew her closer and kissed the top of her head as she nestled into his warmth. Onyx's hand stroked Ophelia's hair as she clutched his shirt tightly. Onyx pressed his lips against her temple as she drifted off to the world of dreams. He could only hope that her world of dreams was free of nightmares.
While the female in his arms slept soundly, Onyx's thoughts were consumed by the woman who gave birth to the female in his arms.
The warm touch of a pair of fingers trailing over her cheek pricked her skin. Ophelia let out a contented sigh before slowly opening her eyes to unveil a smiling Onyx. The curtains were pulled back and the room was bright bathed in warm sunray. She blinked a few times and looked up at Onyx. Ophelia closed her eyes and nuzzled into his warm inviting chest, making him chuckle.
"You should get up, léift." He said softly, and Ophelia only shook her head. "It's already noon. Get up and eat something. I made your favourite blueberry pancakes." Ophelia looked up when she heard the word pancakes.
"How did you-? Onyx grinned cheekily as she asked groggily.
"I have the power to read minds!" He joked dramatically waving his hand on air. Onyx chuckled as Ophelia rolled her eyes. "Your dad told me this morning."
"He was here?" She inquired, and Onyx nodded.
"He came to see if you were all right. Since we had disappeared from the gala last night without saying anything." He informed her, and she nodded, looking down. He knew she was thinking about last night and it was probably still hurting her. Ophelia squealed when Onyx attacked her with kisses.
"Stop," she said as he pressed kisses all over her face, and she laughs slightly, pushing him away. Onyx smiles and runs his finger across her cheek.
"Your smile is as bright as the sun. Never look down and let the clouds take over your beautiful smile." Onyx pressed his lips against her forehead.
"Get out of bed and have some breakfast." Onyx declared as he drew back. Ophelia smiled and nodded as Onyx got down from the bed and walked out of the room.
As her feet touched the cold floor, Ophelia shivered. She entered the bathroom and, after a shower, dressed for the day. Ophelia wore high-waisted black jeans, a yellow halter neck flowy top, and let her hair down. When the bedroom door was pushed open and Onyx entered with a tray full of food, Ophelia turned her head. She smiled as he placed the tray on the bed and Ophelia inched closer to him. She noticed a plate of blueberry pancakes topped with butter, a bowl of yoghurt and fruit, and a mug of freshly brewed coffee. Onyx looked up at her as he motioned for her to take a seat. "Are this fruit from the farm?" She inquired while sitting, and Onyx nodded.
"As well as fresh yoghurt from the finest dairy." He declared proudly, and Ophelia smiled.
"Did you eat?" She asked
"Of course, I don't cope well with hunger." Onyx huffed and Ophelia chuckled as she dug into the plate of her favourite food.
Onyx suddenly stood up and she looked at him confused. He looked like he had forgotten something important and was in a rush. "Finish your food, I'll be right back!" He hurriedly said as he spooned around and dashed out the door.
Ophelia finished her meal and walked out of the bedroom to find Onyx in the kitchen packing something. His back was to her and he was blocking her view; Ophelia tilted her head to see what he was doing and saw a blanket, which perplexed her.
"What are you doing?" Onyx turned around when she asked. His hand wrapped around her waist and drew her in closer.
"The weather is nice, so I thought we could have a picnic in my favourite spot." Ophelia smiled brightly at him as he spoke.
"That sounds incredible!" Onyx smiled as she cheered. "Get dressed, and I'll get the basket ready." He suggested, and Ophelia nodded in agreement.
Onyx placed a few sandwiches he had bought in the basket, along with a Tupperware box filled with sliced fruit. Crackers with soft cheese, salad and brownies were next and finally, he put some iced tea, wine and water for them inside the basket. He closed the basket and turned around when he heard the bedroom door softly shut.
Onyx's gaze moved down Ophelia's body as she moved closer to him. Her long midnight black hair was down in natural waves, and she wore a straw hat. Her long legs were concealed under a pair of black skinny jeans, and her feet were covered up beneath a pair of black flats. With the yellow flowy top and the light pinkish hue on her cheek, she truly resembled the first ray of sun that illuminated the cold world after a long dark night.
