Decision – Part ll
This is the moment she had been waiting for the last few months. This is the moment she had fantasized countless times over the months and only longed to feel his body pressed deliciously against hers. His grip on her hips tightened and he picked her up, seamlessly carrying her to the small table and sat her down. He stood in between her legs as their lips hungrily devoured each others. He repeatedly kissed her till their lungs burned in lack of oxygen and they pulled back. He pressed his lips against her forehead and pulled her into his chest. His one arm was around her back and the other protectively held her head against his beating heart. Ophelia wrapped her arms around his waist and slowly tears dropped down her cheek. Onyx pressed his lips against her head and clutched his eyes shut.
“I missed you.” Ophelia sobbed and his hold tightened. “I missed you so much you selfish beast!”
“I missed you too, my love. I missed you too.”
That night they left the gala together and to her temporary apartment in the downtown of Dubai. They had barely changed out of their clothes and had retreated to her bed. Her head was on his chest and her arm was around his torso. His arms were protectively around her, holding her close to him. She clung to him as if her life depended on it and slowly gave into sleep with the soothing rhythm of his beating heart.
The sun kisses the clouds into beautiful white as they glide across the early sky. They go south, together yet independently, toward the ocean. Gaps spread and narrow, one slides just under another, and their shapes constantly change. Her eyelids slowly opened as the light outside grew steadily brighter until the drapes sparkled like the stained glass windows. She unconsciously snuggled into the pillow by her side and when she felt the softness of the pillow in place of his hard muscles, her eyes sprang open and she sat up on the bed. Her gaze darted across the room, looking for any sign of him. In her mind, she begged fervently that the night was not a figment of her imagination. Ophelia was on the verge of breaking down when the door of her room cracked open and he walked in with a tray in his hand. His calm browns widened in panic as he saw her tear filled eyes ready to spill. "Ophelia! What happened?" As he rushed over to her and laid the platter down, he inquired urgently. Ophelia wrapped her arms around him and nestled into him right away.
"I thought-I thought you weren't here. I assumed my memories of last night were all figments of my imagination." Onyx drew her against his chest as her lips quivered. "I'm right here, my love. I'll be right there!" He muttered.
"You cruel, conceited jerk! You have weakened me so much. Even the thought of you being away, hurts me. It hurts when you are away!" She wailed, and Onyx tried to comfort her by stroking his hand up and down her back.
"I'm sorry, love. I'm right here. I'm not going to leave you again." Onyx muttered sweet nothings as she sobbed in his arms. The emotions and the bond had weakened her more than he had anticipated. The bond that two mates share is something that can bring even the king to his knees. But he hadn't expected it to have such an impact on her, given that she was a human. Despite this, he is aware that it is not only the bond that is causing her to feel this way but also the pain he has caused her by abandoning her continually.
"You cruel jerk!" She exclaimed as her fist pounded against his chest.
"I'm sorry, my love. I'm truly sorry."
Every time he left, every time he purposefully tried to push her away, he only hurt and broke her more. But all he wanted was for her to be safe from the demons he was carrying and his world, which was not really suitable for a human. She will be constantly pushed into peril. And being with an untamed beast like him is even riskier.
Even so, these excuses are not what she needs. He understands that she needs him and that he needs her. He will at any cost redeem himself if she decides to stay with him in spite of knowing everything. After her sobs subsided, he gently drew her away from his chest and wiped her tear stained cheeks. It was just something else how a person looked after they had cried. Her eyes were slightly red, her lashes appeared longer, and the rosy glow on her cheeks gave her a very innocent and beautiful appearance.
Ophelia came in and sat down on the bed in front of him after freshening up and changing. Onyx cut the blueberry pancakes he'd made for her and lifted a spoonful to her mouth. Ophelia took a spoonful and gulped it down after chewing for a few moments. He continued to feed her, and she ate everything quietly. Under his gaze, she felt timid and vulnerable. The slightest touch of his skin against hers set her body ablaze. Ophelia shivered every time his clothed knee touched her thigh inadvertently. He offered her a glass of orange juice, which she gratefully accepted. She gulped in down washing away the pancakes and after handing over the empty glass, he took the dishes and walked out of the room. After a while, he returned and sat in front of her.
"Did you eat anything?" She inquired, and Onyx smiled and nodded. "Yes,"
After a brief moment of silence, she spoke up. "I apologize for this morning. I didn't intend to cry, but my emotions have been all over the place for the past week." As a slight blush crept across her cheek, she said. Onyx shook his head and smiled.
"You don't have to apologise. I understand what you must be feeling. When my beast recognised you as our mate, I went through that. But don't worry, I'll be there for you every step of the way. I promise." he said and she looked up at him.
"What exactly do you mean by 'our'?" He looked down when she asked.
"You are mine as well as his, and that is something I can not change. He has a claim on you and he will have his share.” He finished speaking, and the image of the beast tearing Owen's arms apart flashed through her mind. As if he could sense her discomfort, he pulled her in closer.
"I will never let him hurt you no matter what. That is what I promise. But before anything, you should know what I have to say and I need you to make a decision."
"Decision about what?"
"I want you to decide whether you want to stay with me or reject me."
