Tamed – Part lll

Passing wolves bowed their heads, smiled, and showed their respects as they headed to the infirmary. They know who Ophelia is and what she is going through, and they have gradually warmed up to her over the last month. Ophelia smiled at them as she and Cressida proceeded down the corridor to the healer.
Cressida knocked on the door, and the healer opened it instantly. With a respectful bow, she opened the door and invited them inside.
"Ech hunn dës aus der Emgéigend Mënsch Stad, Luna Cressida." As she handed Cressida a small pouch, the healer stated. (I brought these from the nearby human town, Luna Cressida.)
"Merci, Bessie," Cressida said as she took the pouch and turned towards Ophelia. (Thank you, Bessie.)
"Take this inside. Use them and bring them to me. I'll be waiting for you right here." Cressida stated with a loving smile as she handed the pouch to Ophelia. With slightly trembling hands, she accepted it and proceeded to the restroom.
Ophelia closed the door shut and tore the packets open. She pulled two white sticks from her packet and held them in her hand. She'd never held one before, but she knew what she was supposed to do. She squatted over the toilet seat and, after removing the cap from the first stick, placed it directly under her urine stream. She repeated the procedure with the second one before getting up to place the sticks on the counter.
"Are you all right, sweetheart?" Cressida inquired softly, knocking on the door.
"Yes, I'm fine." As her nervous globs gazed at the sticks on the counter, she muttered. She wandered around, nibbling on her lower lip and glanced at the sticks every now and then. When she noticed something appearing on the test windows, she dashed to the counter and grabbed them. Her heart shook when she noticed two lines on the test. As she stared at the sticks, her palm shook and tears flowed down her cheeks.
'Onyx,' was the sole thought that awoke her intellect and her spirit in a hauntingly mournful whisper, but she knew her calls would go unanswered.
Pregnancy may be a lovely thing; it is the marvel of life, the joy of creating a new person, of welcoming a holy and sentient creature into your heart and soul. On an emotional level, it can also be painful, uncomfortable, and difficult. Hormones shift, and the body alters to nourish and carry the growing baby.
Her heart was heavy as she lay awake in her bed, waiting for him, calling for him. But, as usual, her calls went unanswered. Ophelia rubbed her still-flat stomach with love and longing. It had been a week since she found she was carrying a piece of him in her womb. When the family found out, they were ecstatic, and she wondered whether he had heard. Ophelia got up and made her way to the balcony. She wondered, staring at the full moon if he was thrilled, ecstatic to learn that he was going to be a father. She wondered if he was scared and anxious like she was. Ophelia groaned, staring at the old abandoned building in the pine woods that seemed to be sheltering something. She had discovered that the facility had been utilized as a prison a few decades ago but now it was abandoned. Ophelia's eyes broadened when she suddenly noticed a silhouette. Her gaze darted around the area, trying to figure out who it was. She drew a ragged breath as her heartbeat sped and she found herself sprinting out of the estate and into the woods. She had searched the region numerous times but had never found him.
'But what if he'd just moved there!' she thought as her bare feet led her to the woods.
"Ophelia, stop!" She heard some yelling from behind her, but before they could catch up, she dashed into the woods. Despite her family's frightened shouts, she successfully dashed through the tree wall and hurried towards the tall edifice, which stood proudly even after years of storms and calamities.
As she entered the building, her breathing became heavy and raspy. Her gaze darted along the dim corridor, unable to see anything. She took a timid step closer and shouted his name aloud.
"Onyx?"
As she moved further inside, she received no response. Her eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness, and at the end of the corridor, she discovered a flight of stairs. She mounted the stairs with trembling steps. She looked for him on the first several floors, but he was nowhere to be found. When she reached the top floor, she glanced around and discovered a room with double wooden doors. Her steps led her to the doors, which she pushed open with a quivering hand.
"Onyx?" As she stepped inside, she shouted out to him once more.
"Are you attempting to get yourself killed again now that you've finally recovered?" As his raspy voice inquired, Ophelia looked around and discovered him sitting on the floor in a corner. She smiled at him; her heart was overjoyed that she had finally found him. She took a step closer to him, and he backed away. Her gaze was drawn to the open wound on his chest.
"You are bleeding!" As she knelt, she exclaimed.
"I asked you a question!" Ophelia was taken aback when he barked.
"I came here looking for you. I was hoping to find you."
"You ignored all the warnings and came here expecting to see me! How can you be so immature? Leave right now! I don't want you to return here! Do you understand!" His stern words stung her. She felt abandoned once more.
"This is what you have to say after disappearing for months? I tried looking for you for days and days, but I couldn't find you."
"I never asked you to look for me. I came here for a cause. And any other wolf would have realized this and remained away!" His words broke her heart. This is how he treats her after numerous hours of lying awake, sobbing, and longing for his presence! Her lips quivered, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
“If you wanted someone to realize your cause and reasons then you should have asked your Goddess for a wolf like you! Not someone like a pathetic human as me! I’ll leave now and never come back! I’ll leave this county even. And find someone who wouldn’t abandon me and take care of my needs!” Her remarks were loaded with fury and frustration as she whirled around on her heels and walked towards the exit. A ferocious roar pierced his chest, and his hand reached out to seize her and press her against the wall.
