Chapter 14 - Two Days
*******Alpha King's POV******
"Alpha Kane, I brought my son with me today, so that you can talk with him personally and hear the stories first hand. They have gotten worse since our last meeting the other day." Alpha Preston enters my office with his seven year old son following in behind him.
"Hi there young man it's a pleasure to meet you." I smile at the boy, as he moves to stand behind his fathers legs hiding for a brief moment.
"Chase go over and say hi to the Alpha..." Preston encourages him with a hearty laugh at his sons shyness.
"But Daddy I thought you were the Alpha?" His son now sounds extremely confused, causing us both to laugh now.
"Yes but he is the King of all of the Alphas son... go over and say hi and introduce yourself." He encourages again, before he eventually steps out from behind his fathers legs watching me curiously.
He begins to walk towards me, puffing out his chest slightly to look more brave. He reminds me of Karson when he was younger. Always trying to act tough.
To my surprise, he stops dead in-front of me before stretching out his hand to shake my own.
"Hi I'm Chase." He says proudly.
I grin down at him, impressed by his sudden burst of confidence, before taking his small hand and shaking it, causing him to flash me a toothy grin before running back to his father.
"He will make a great future Alpha for your pack Preston, I can tell already." I confirm, causing Preston to smile down proudly at his son.
"Did my wife go to meet your wife down stairs?" I question, wondering if Leoni would be spending some time with Preston's wife whilst we had this meeting.
I knew that Leoni was fond of Preston's wife Aurora and figured it may cheer her up a bit if they spent some time together.
"Yes they are both down stairs catching up." He smiles, as I nod at him in thankfulness for bringing her with him.
"Okay so let's all take a seat on the couches." I gesture to the soft sofas in the far side of my office, a much comfier place to question a seven year old rather than at a large office table.
Preston takes his sons hand and we walk over to all take a seat.
"Okay Chase, remember I said that you were going to talk about your history lessons today?" Preston begins, his son looking rather worried but nodding nonetheless.
I then decide to take out the large tub of sweets from under the coffee table, opening the lid to reveal many different bags that kids would love...
Don't ask why I have these sweets in here... one word-
Adam.
"Would you like a sweet son? Take whatever you want." I offer, watching as his eyes light up with excitement.
I just don't want the young lad feeling like we are here to interrogate or give him into any kind of trouble.
He picks a pack of sweets, handing them to his father to open as he thanks me before tucking into the bag.
"As your father was saying Chase... I don't know much about history and I'm really interested in learning more about it and I thought that since you were so good at learning in school, you could teach me?" I ask, watching him nod his head in understanding.
"Tell him all about the land of the rogues son." Preston encourages, as his son perks up slightly, almost excited about the topic...
I press my phone to record the conversation, before his son begins his story-
"We got a new teacher and her name is Miss Lure. She told us all about the land of the rogues and that it's a magical place that not everyone can see or get into..." He begins, giving me chills at the fact that he refers to the place as being 'magical'.
There's nothing magical about rogues... let alone a land full of them...
"Ohh that's interesting... what else can you tell me?" I press further, as he pops another sweet into his mouth before continuing-
"She said that it's a safe place for rogues to hide so that nobody will find them. She said too that it's ran by a magical Queen who protects and cares for them whilst they are there." He states, looking up at his father briefly before taking another sweet.
I glance at Preston, his face looking somewhat horrified like my own.
It sounds like a fucking fairytale...
"There's more son... tell him the rest that you told your mother and I last night." Preston gulps whilst telling him to continue.
I perk up slightly, watching as his son innocently checks out the puzzle on the back of his sweet wrapper, before looking up seconds later to continue talking.
"Oh yeah!" His son states, as if getting excited, before he looks to me and says-
"She told us that if we ever wanted to see this special land she could take us there!" He chirps, his voice getting higher with excitement as if it's the best field trip he would ever get to go on.
Fuck.
Preston looks at me, his eyes holding a hint of fear behind them.
"Okay son thank you very much for telling me all about this place! I don't think it's a very safe place though and I'm going to make sure that you get to go on another cool trip instead... how about you all spend a day at the water park?" I suggest, watching his face light up with even more excitement.
"Yes! Can we go there instead please please please!" His son begins to jump up and down in excitement.
"Yes I'll organise for your whole class to be taken out on a field trip to the water park next week. I'll have my guards go along with you and I'll have your father pick another teacher to take you all." I state, his son yelling with excitement.
"Can't Miss Lure take us?" He then asks, causing me to clear my throat.
"No she will be very busy next week son sorry... but I'm sure we can have another cool teacher take you all." I tell him, as he grins and nods.
"Preston can you mind link your wife to take Chase down stairs for now, I would like to speak with you alone. Also Chase you can take a few more bags of sweets before you go." I tell him, as he wastes no time in grabbing a few bags.
"You're the coolest King ever!" He yells, causing me to laugh.
Moments later the door opens before Preston's wife Aurora pops her head in the door.
"Okay Chase lets go down stairs and let your Dad talk with Alpha Kane." She tells him softly, as he runs to her in a flash.
"Mom guess where I'm going next week! The Alpha King guy said I get to go to the water park with my whole class!" He continues to jump around yelling.
Probably gave him too much sugar... oops.
Aurora laughs before taking him away and closing the door behind her softly.
"Well holy fuck that's a weird story..." I sigh, slumping down onto the sofa.
"Extremely. It beats me why he thinks of rogues as being so cool... kids have always feared rogues... and that's how it should be... they are ruthless monsters...but it seems this woman is going around almost promoting them!" Preston grits out in an outrage.
"Have you organised our meeting with her?" I question, as he rolls his eyes in response.
"I sent two guards to meet with her on a school day and funnily enough when they got there she was teaching them all about the blood flow." He informs me, causing me to furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
"The blood flow? In a fucking history class?" I almost growl out, not liking the sound of this evidently fake teacher already.
"Exactly what I said! But strangely enough when they told her about you wanting to meet with her she was over the moon... thought it was great that she was getting to meet you in person..." He tells me, looking as confused as I am.
"What the fuck." I growl out, not understanding what the deal is with this so called teacher.
Something isn't right.
"I know all too well that this woman, In one way or another, has without a doubt got something to do with my daughters disappearance. I can feel it in my bones." I state, gritting my teeth together in frustration.
"I know she isn't my daughter or anything... but I can feel it too Alpha... something really isn't right." He agrees.
"She said she will be here in two days." Preston finishes, after a moments silence whilst earning a nod from me.
"I can't thank you enough Preston. Your efforts in helping my family is greatly appreciated and I will reward your full pack majorly." I state, leaning over to shake his hand.
"We don't wish for gifts sir. We respect your title and we respect the way you run our country. We are more than happy to help your family." He tells me meaningfully, earning a respectful nod from myself.
"Your pack will be rewarded nonetheless. Thank you." I stand, him following my action, before we both head out of the office in search of our wives.
Let the games begin...
Two days until we meet our first real clue.
