Chapter 16 - Rain
******Maddison's POV*******
I stood there waiting with my hands trembling by my sides as he began to look around the room uncomfortably.
"It's raining." He states, drawing my attention over to the large glass sliding doors in his room.
Surely enough it was. It was a down pour.
I don't reply, but instead I just watch as the rain hammers down on the glass, resembling the atmosphere of tonight's events.
I'm surprised that I hadn't noticed the rain sooner due to how loud it actually was but I guess it must be because of how much shock I was currently in.
I felt sort of numb... though the rain was kinda relaxing I must admit.
"Come..." He states, taking my wary hand in his as he guides me over towards the windows.
In this moment I was just weak to the point that I didn't want to fight him off or even speak at all.
I just wanted him to talk and maybe attempt to set things clear before everything else here gets more out of hand.
He lets go of me for a moment, moving towards the sofa in his room, before he lifts it with ease and moves it over so that it's now seated directly in front of the glass doors.
"Sit down." He gestures to the seat, as I move round to do so, him following behind me.
We both sit, staring out at the rain fall in silence.
"Rain was the only thing that calmed me when I was younger." He states, causing me to nod once in agreement with his statement as we both just continued to stare out.
"I remember one night, when I was about 12, I snuck out of this place during the rain fall just to see what it'd be like to take my wolf for a run in this weather." He continues softly.
I still just sit quietly drinking in his words, unable to form a reply in my current state.
"It was probably the most amazing night of my life... well that was until I met you." He then states, turning briefly to look at me, a small smile pulling at his lips although his eyes looked...sad?
But nonetheless he caused my heart to flutter slightly.
"Funny isn't it? How the best memory I have from when I was a kid is sneaking out to run in the rain late at night." He laughs, however the laugh isn't a happy laugh, it's an almost pathetic one.
"There's nothing else good to remember about this place... we weren't even allowed to play like regular kids." He muttered, my heart breaking slightly at his words.
I wonder what really happened to him growing up here...
"Well... why don't we go now?" I then question groggily, deciding that he might be able to open up a bit better if we both relaxed more by going out a run.
"What do you mean 'go'? You know we can't just leave this place yet." He sighs, as I shake my head.
"No I mean go out for a run in the rain. My wolf hasn't shifted or ran in so long... maybe it will help us both calm down a bit." I suggest, his eyes watering up a bit before he blinks it back.
"I'm sorry about that by the way... about never letting you shift or go for a run since you got here... I was scared that your wolf would be bigger than an average female and that people would figure out who you really were and how high your title was since your an Alphas daughter and all..." He explains sadly, earning an understanding nod from me.
"I get it... but let's go out before it stops then we can talk, it might help us both and it's just after 4am so everyone will still be asleep." I sigh, us both now looking extremely fed up and defeated by this point.
I've never even ran out in the rain before so this could be a refreshing experience and a run would certainly make my wolf a lot happier anyway.
"Okay let's go." He states shakily after a minutes thought, standing up with me following his lead.
"Remember walk behind me just incase we see anyone on the way out." He sighs again, as I nod on exiting his room.
We both walk silently, not wanting to blow our cover or to wake anyone.
We also notice that the body from before was now gone, meaning Warren and the other boy had cleaned it up well.
Everyone here can't be that bad... that young boy seemed rather normal for being a rogue? He's the youngest boy I've seen here so far actually.
We head out of the back door, seeing that the whole house was silent due to everyone still sleeping.
"We will head out further into the woods a bit before we shift." He states, as I nod again, despite the fact that he was ahead of me so couldn't actually see my nod.
The rain bounced off my head, drenching my hair and face within seconds. Although the rain wasn't horribly cold like expected, it was actually pretty warm and soothing to be in.
I looked up to see Coda's hair now flat against his head giving him an even more dangerous look when he turned to face me once we were further into the woods.
"What did you throw in that bag?" I question, noticing the leather back pack that he had brought with him.
"Dry clothes for when we shift back." He states, going over to a large tree to shelter the bag from the rain.
We stand under the tree, sheltering ourselves for a bit, before his ears perk up slightly as if he's double checking to make sure we were alone.
"Coast is clear... are you ready?" He asks, the smallest hint of excitement now in his voice as he does so.
After all this will be the first time our wolves meet one another... though I'm extremely nervous to shift.
"Um... this is embarrassing... but would you mind if I shifted first? I don't know how painful it will be since it's been so long and I'm kinda scared..." I mutter, as he nods in understanding.
"Yeah of course. I'll wait until you're safe, don't worry." He assures me, before I nod and ready myself.
"Mia are you ready?" I question my wolf waiting for her to reply.
"Ready as ever! I want to meet his wolf so bad!" She chirps back, causing me to roll my eyes at her eagerness.
Okay here it goes...
I think about my wolf, my beautiful light grey wolf, before my bones begin shifting and snapping, causing me to almost release a deafening scream however I bite my lip to hold it back knowing that we don't want people to find us out here...
I bite my lip until I draw blood, forcing myself through the pain of the shift that seemed to be taking years...
I wait a couple more seconds as the pain drifts away slowly, keeping my eyes firmly shut in fear of the damage that was done...
"Open your eyes angel...you're okay and might I add your wolf looks absolutely stunning." My ears perk up at the sound of the most handsome voice ever.
I slowly peel my eyes open, before staring up at the handsome man towering over me.
I go to reply, but instead an excited bark leaves my mouth, causing him to shake his head whilst chuckling down at me.
"Okay my turn." He states, before moments later he's stood on all fours in front of me, showing me his stunning large wolf for the second time tonight.
How the heck is his wolf nearly the same size as my Dads when my Dad is the Alpha King?
Not many wolves are that big. Most Alphas aren't even as big as my Dad... only my brother Karson is the second wolf that I've ever seen to be that big so what's his secret?
"Steroids maybe?" Mia jokes in my head, causing me to roll my eyes again.
"Steroids wouldn't even make his wolf grow bigger you idiot!" I reply back, causing her to chuckle.
What an ass she is.
His wolf wastes no more time before he suddenly starts licking my face all over, grinning happily at my traumatised wolf once he's done.
Moments later she eventually grins back at him like a giddy idiot, before she begins to run in circles like an excited pup.
Jeez...
You can tell she's not been out in a while.
I suddenly feel a weight shift onto us, as my wolf roles gently on to the floor having being tackled by his large wolf who was still grinning with his tongue hanging out.
He looked so cute like this!
I bark in response, before rolling from underneath him and taking the chance to run away, having him chasing closely behind me.
My wolf was excited beyond belief, having our handsome mate run after us in the pouring rain as the mud splashed around as we ran.
This was magical.
I could pick up his heavy footsteps approaching behind us with my wolf hearing which only pressed me to run faster in excitement.
We continued this for the next few minutes, him clearly allowing me to run faster than him since I wasn't very fast for a wolf and judging by his size he was naturally fast.
He wanted me to think that he was catching up before he would slow down slightly to allow me to still get away, it was so fun to say the least.
We made it all the way to our river, as I dived down into our secluded spot before moments later he tackled me playfully to the ground, his tail wagging behind him.
We flopped over happily, just laying there for the time being, listening to the sounds of the rain beating off the water in the river.
My wolf snuggled closer to his, before he placed his giant wolf head over mine in a protective manner to let me know that I was safe with him.
I didn't know whether to say that this was the worst or best night of my life due to the events from earlier but it still didn't defeat how amazing this moment was for us.
The bond that our wolves shared was true magic which only made me excited for when we finally get to mark each other in the future and complete our mating bond.
After we mark each other and mate, our bond will be as strong as ever which will only cause our relationship to grow into something wonderful...
Though it saddens me that we can't guarantee if that day will come soon or not...
Let's hope it's soon.
