Chapter 14: Mistake Relationship 3
Jessie laid in her rooms seeing a movie from her phone, with her ear buds connected to her ear before a call came through. As it popped up on the screen, the caller ID showed Oswald and her face scrunched up in annoyance. She only wondered what shitty talks he wanted to tell her, so she let the call end without picking up.
Just as she thought she was back to seeing her movie, a second call came and caused a disruption, that was when she realized avoiding it will only delay her and she decided to pick the call. Afterall, what was the worst thing that he could do, she thought.
Oswald who just got home after the meeting, pulled out his phone as he was about entering the house and called Jessie. He walked into the Kitchen to drink water while expecting an answer from her. Staring at his phone, he realized the call had ended and there was no reply. A lot of stupid thoughts came to his head, "like she could be with Charles at the moment" and so many other things, so she was avoiding his call. He tried to call back again with the intention of giving up once his call wasn't answered. Fortunately, the call went through and she dully replied, "hello".
Oswald who was getting pissed off at her delay, spontaneously smiled immediately he heard her voice, that voice he could kill for (as he claimed) say "hello".
"(Hey) dear, how are you doing?", Jessie heard Oswald ask from the other end. There was really nothing intimate about dear, but hearing it from him only irritated her.
"I am fine", she said just to fulfill protocols. She really didn't want to prolong the call, so to her there was really no need telling him if she was not fine, or asking if he was faring good.
"You won't ask how I am doing?", Oswald persuaded. "Well I'm doing okay, I had a busy day while thinking about you. I'm certain you thought about me too?"
"Eww...", Jessie crooned in her head. She didn't think about him even for the slightest second, except when Luciana brought his story up, which died so soon as Charles took the spotlight. Remembering what Luciana said, her irritation grew and her speech sounded tersely that was if Oswald could notice it.
"Oh.... interesting", Jessie said in reply to his statement about him thinking about her and intentionally ignoring the part where he said she thought about him.
"After the party, I had to meet my family. We discussed on how to sort out the shares.....", and he went on and on.
Jessie just tapped on loud speaker and let him to babble about things she never asked him.
"Jessie.....are you there?", Oswald called out when he felt he was really alone in the call, he actually was alone.
"Yes, I am", Jessie said abruptly, "you had a good day. Well I should rest, I've been feeling sleepy", she said trying to dismiss the call.
But Oswald was such a blabber mouth and he kept on talking till Jessie yawned, calling his attention to the fact that she was tired and needed to sleep.
"I should let you sleep now. Take care", Oswald said as he hung up. Satisfied, because he really didn't feel like she was with Charles, even though he noticed the reluctance to talk with him in her voice, but he just chose to ignore it. Feeling so hungry, he dug into the bread wrap in his fridge and took few slices of bread.
Jessie racked her mind thinking of what to do about Oswald, not getting any idea, she turned on the movie, while covering herself with a duvet.
At Charles' place, Rebecca stood outside the door staring at Charles who seemed a little disturbed.
"What's it?", Rebecca asked.
"Nothing", Charles said as he gestured for her to come inside. He could let her stay at his place and pass the night, but he just wasn't in the mood for it and he still had not come up with a suitable way of making her leave.
"Rebecca", Charles voiced out at the same time Rebecca called his attention. He paused midway and said, "you should go first".
Rebecca smiled and said, "Is there any problem? Because you really are acting like you don't like me around".
"It's not that", Charles said with a warm smile, "the thing is my Friends are coming around and passing the night. So, I wouldn't want you to be here with them. You know, people ain't suppose to know we really are a thing", Charles explained exhaling a sigh of relief. He really must applaud his brain, it was so good at making up lies instantly, he smiled internally at the thought of it and waited for a reply from Rebecca.
"It's fine, I'll just go back. Can you drop me off ?", Becky asked Charles who was really fine with it. Picking up his keys and wearing a T-shirt, he drove her home. While in the car, he turned on the music as a way to avoid any conversation from her. Getting so close to her house, she picked up her phone and called her boyfriend,
"Hey dear, are you at home?", She asked him over the phone.
"Yeah I am, you want to come around?", He replied.
"Yes babe, I've missed you so much and I thought of coming around. I am even on my way, I've been bored inside all day", Rebecca replied. Charles who paid no attention to the conversation they had, caught the part where she said she was inside all day and was thinking about him. Rebecca was maybe a mistake and he was already regretting, well he's having his time with her, so no loss anyway.
