Chapter 49: Sophia Turner 2
"Good morning, Sir," Sophie greeted as she moved to the Chancellor's desk, taking calculated steps out of fear.
The Chancellor's gaze was fixed on a file in front of him, with a few others scattered on his desk. He was not someone that they saw very often as students of the great Chelan college. He adjusted the big round rimmed glass that sat idly on his nose and took his gaze to Sophie.
"You are?" He questioned, with his brows raised high.
"I am Sophia Turner, Sir," she voiced out respectfully.
"Ohh..., Sophia," the Chancellor called out like he had gotten an encounter with her before then. Sophie did not know the exact emotions to feel because, from the Chancellor's voice, he didn't sound like there was trouble. But as it was believed, a guilty conscience is always restless, so her heart paced endlessly.
"You may have a sit," the Chancellor declared and paused his speech like he was giving her time to relax, and feel comfortable in his presence.
Sophie murmured a "thank you," then sat on the mesh chair that was in front of the Chancellor's desk, with her gaze fixed on her thighs.
"Miss. Sophia, I believe you are aware of the rules of this school, and that we don't tolerate uncivilized behaviors from students," the Chancellor stated.
"I am, Sir," Sophie said as she raised her face to him.
"Good, last week, a student, Alyssa Jones, and I believe you know her, experienced an anaphylactic shock in the drama rehearsal that you were present at, am I right?" He asked her again, throwing quick glares at Sophie.
Sophie was startled immediately, and her face did not do any good hiding the emotions she felt. But instantly, she covered it up with an unusual wide grin, accompanied by trembling, "I am aware of it, Sir," she stuttered.
Sophie did not want to just expose herself, as she believed that the Chancellor had no idea that she was responsible. She felt it was a very normal investigation he was carrying out, so she just had to go with the flow and be out in a few seconds. "The Chancellor doing investigations himself?" the thoughts of it made her shiver and goose bumps began to appear on her skin which she still covered with a smile and tried to shake off the uneasiness by taking deep breaths.
"The report stated clearly that she came in contact with an allergen and so far, those allergens have not been in any part of the school. Do you know about this also?" the Chancellor adjusted himself on his seat, and took his hands to the table, leaning on it.
Sophie shook her head, then voiced out, "I don't, Sir, I only knew about the shock because I was present at the drama hall but I know nothing else," She shook her head, supporting her words.
"Interesting!" The Chancellor exclaimed with less excitement, nodding his head torpidly.
"From some news we heard, you and Alyssa have never been on good terms, and you also wanted to play the lead role in the drama. Am I still saying the truth?" a small frown appeared on the Chancellor's face as he inquired further.
Sophie's face was filled with confusion at this point. Saying no was going to feel like a blow to the Chancellor, and a yes was going to take her deeper into the trap that had been laid for her. Regardless of the conflicting opinions, she had to answer the Chancellor as anyone in his position will not want to be kept waiting for long.
"Sir, I wanted to play the lead role in the drama, and also for some reasons we have not been on good terms, but it did not extend farther than mere arguments, I will never do such a thing against Alyssa." Lying about not knowing Alyssa and having few strifes with her was not a good choice, because before the Chancellor had talked about it, he had proof to support his point.
"I never said you are responsible, Miss. Sophie. Don't fix words into my mouth that may not benefit you," he announced and gave Sophie a stern look which made her shiver slightly, in response.
"Looking back on your previous report, you have been reported for bullying a student, so far, from your reports, your behavior seems questioning," he paused and took a few minutes, staring at her, "do you know anything about Alyssa's case? Who knows your punishment might be lighter if you tell me."
"I don't, Sir," Sophie faltered, and her lips shook in trepidation.
"Are you sure?" The Chancellor's brows furrowed and wrinkles appeared on his forehead.
"Yes Sir, and I promise I will also do my best trying to find the perpetrator. I will definitely report to you once I find out who it is," she assured the Chancellor who agreed after some careful thinking.
If she was aware of the consequences of her wrong decision though. Alas! She had no idea as she had been making wrong decisions almost all her life. After some more questions, the Chancellor permitted her to leave, and Sophie felt glad that she was away from the penetrating and fearful gaze of the Chancellor.
Sophie walked out of the Chancellor's office, fidgeting internally and still trying to maintain the nonchalant attitude she had developed over the years.
She walked to her lecture hall, with her mind still disputing thoughts like, "do they know it's me, did someone find out that I am responsible, who should I even put the blame on, and what punishments do I face if I'm caught?" Fear gripped her so much, that she had no idea when she bumped into a body, that felt quite soft for a guy's own, so she assumed it was a girl. It will have been much better for her if it was a guy's body, then he was going to be the knight that comes to save the Princess in distress through a bump, as she was noticeably in distress.
Sophie raised her face to meet Luciana. Her nose scrunched up immediately, as she took her gaze away from Luciana and met Alyssa by her side, then followed by Jessie.
"What could the problem be now, that you are finding it hard to even see?" Luciana asked, sounding so caring, "Sophie dear, I can always help. Please talk to me," Luciana smirked.
Sophie just stared at her not giving a reply. It was typical of Sophie to raise her voice in such cases, or always be the one taunting Alyssa or any other person as the bully that she was. But this time, she just left her head to stay low in front of the girls. Not because she did not have any words to say or did not want to eat them either. It was just for her to ignore their taunts, as anything she said could be used against her at any time, as the Chancellor's radar was already on her.
"I don't know if it's because I'm recovering, but I smell fear," Alyssa chirped in, sniffing around the environment, very close to Sophie, "don't you perceive it, Jessie?" Alyssa inquired, with her brows wrinkled and Jessie giggled lightly in response.
"I think it's just Sophie, bothered that her actions are catching up with her, or is it not so?" Jessie spoke out, agreeing with Alyssa's statement.
"I don't have time for you girls," Sophie bawled out, letting out a hmmph sound.
"Well, I don't think you should, as you are really scared right now. Like I said earlier, I can always help out, you just need to come crying, and I will be a shoulder," Luciana shrugged, "I'm always here," she concluded, nodding her head stylishly.
"Just come crying dear," Jessie mimicked, pouting her lips, and the three girls burst into soft laughter with Sophie walking away in annoyance, not even bothered about if her steps showed elegance as she always wanted it to.
