Chapter 27: The Kidnap 2
"Where are you?", he inquired tensely. His adrenaline pumped into action instantly, and his heartbeat increased faster, with his pupils dilating.
"I don't know", she managed to mutter out, her voice shaky, and in a blink of an eye,
"Aargh...", Jessie let out a scream and began to lose consciousness thereafter.
"Carry her, Oswald said we should bring her to him", that was the last thing Charles heard through the phone. The next thing that followed was dead silence, accompanied by the screeching of car tyres racing in speed.
While she was still talking to Charles, they got close to her, and one of the guys that were trailing her, hit her with his fists at the back of her head and after letting out a scream, it wasn't too long before she became unconscious.
"Jessie", Charles kept on calling and the sound from his voice went into the open air. "Damn it", he cursed out, hitting his palms forcefully on the steering wheel, which rhythmically let out a honk in response.
He kept on massaging his temples thinking of what to do, he heard the guys call Oswald, even though it didn't make sense to him why Oswald will do that, but then he began to accept it as reality.
"Yes", he shrieked as an idea rushed to his head. Charles began to track Jessie's phone, using the idea he had from school, combining everything and all, till he finally got the signal. He managed to locate the phone and realized the phone was in a street not too far from where his car was parked.
Switching on the engine, he began to ride at speed to that street, and just as he approached a turn taking him into the street, he saw a black vehicle driving off at speed. The speed at which the car rode past him, registered in his brain, but his priority was checking for Jessie. Notwithstanding, he continued to where he got the signal, rushed out of the car, and met her phone lying helplessly. Charles began to pace around, wondering what might have happened to Jessie, every muscle in his body tensed, and the frustration that filled his face was intense.
Even if he had unsettled issues with Jessie, and wanted to take revenge on her, he was human and he had emotions. Having no single idea of what her fate was, as a result of the Kidnap, troubled him the more. He paced about, thinking of what to do until he looked down and his eyes unintentionally caught a shiny silvery substance.
Looking closer, Charles noticed it was a silver piece of earring and he picked it up. Images ran through his mind and he remembered where he just saw the earring, the car that just drove past, the driver wore that exact earring.
"Was it the other ear that fell off?", he asked himself as he hurriedly made his way to his car, not forgetting to pack up the groceries he saw on the floor close to where Jessie's phone was, and dumped it at the back seat of the car.
Charles drove off above the speed limit, chasing the vehicle which he could vividly remember. He barely remembered the person he saw driving it, but a good number of things about the vehicle had already registered in his brain. He picked up his phone and dialed Carl while trying to beat the distance the other car had given him. He was not certain where exactly the car rode off to, but from the street they were in, the car had two destinations. Either towards a police checkpoint or to the suburbs of Carlton city.
"Hey bro", Carl picked up at the first ring. With his phone on loudspeaker, "can you help me track down a vehicle right now?"
"Okay bro, I'm on it", Carl said over the phone, opening his laptop that lay dejectedly on the bed and switching it on.
"It's a space grey Mercedes-Benz c300, it should be somewhere around the fourth street, heading to either the checkpoint or the suburbs. I don't remember much about the driver, but I know he had a silver earring on one ear. I'll send you a picture, just check the cameras. I need this favor now, please I will be waiting".
"Okay, okay. I hope everything is fine", Carl inquired.
"I will tell you later, just do this now", he said in a hurry and hung off. Carl was not used to Charles calling him in emergencies, but from the way he sounded, he did not need someone to let him know that everything was not alright with Charles, and he began tapping on keys.
With his eyes fixed on the screen, and his fingers moving randomly on buttons, swiftly, Carl finally gained access to the City's CCTV camera and exhaled a deep breath at his achievement.
Gaining access was a big deal, but a bigger deal was identifying and tracking down the car. They were a lot of cars with that description on the road, he had to zoom in before he saw a car with the driver description Charles told him about, and he called Charles immediately.
"I think I have gotten the car, it's heading towards the suburbs, particularly through route A"
"Thank you, I'm on it", Charles said.
Charles who was on the track felt glad as he hastened up his pace.
"Oh my...", Carl screamed out, forgetting that the call was still connected.
"What is it?", Charles demanded, his eyes widened, and his shoulders hunched, "they just parked in front of a car and took Jessica there. You never told me she was the emergency, and the car.... Oswald's", Carl exclaimed standing up from his seat, shocked.
"Just in one night, I am getting this much surprise. First, you called, sounding urgent. Now there's Jessie, and there's Oswald also", Carl stated in disbelief
"Wow", Carl gasped, raising the back of his palms to his parted lips, "don't tell me Oswald kidnapped Jessica"
"It seems so, bro. We'll talk later. I need to go over there immediately"
"Okay, okay, you are sure you don't need extra hands?", Carl probed
"I think I will handle him quite okay", Charles declared and hung up. Stepping on the accelerator, he drove off. Before the call, he had no idea of what he was going to handle, but now it became clearer to him. If Oswald kidnapped Jessie, then he just wanted to have his way with her, nothing else, and he was not going to let that happen.
The quiet night became overcast with clouds, and the rain began to pour in torrents. The wind blew violently from all directions, and nothing could be heard except thunders frightening the bone marrows of individuals including that of Jessie. She had regained consciousness, and she saw herself in a car moving at speed with a guy by her side pointing a gun at her, making her keep shut. If she was told earlier that her day was going to end like that, she wouldn't have gone grocery shopping in the first place. She tried praying that help will come to her, as she had already begun to give up hope. She knew she talked to Charles, but she did not know how long it will take before he can track her, so she left herself to fate, not even bothering to wriggle out of their grip as they can release a bullet to her at any point in time.
After traveling for some distance, the car she was in came to a halt, and she was moved to another Car which she identified as Oswald's but refused to acknowledge.
Opening the door, Jessie was pushed into the car, with one of the guys entering the back seat also.
"I told you I was coming for you", Jessie heard a voice say, the figure in front turned to the back, staring at Jessie with a wide grin.
"Hello", Oswald said, smirking at Jessie
"You??", she yelled, pushing her disheveled hair forward to get a clearer look, "so all these things are your doing, Oswald?"
