Chapter 17 - The Revelation

“Are you always this rude?" I asked him instead.
“I'm not, sweetheart. Not to you at least. I was only stating facts." He said with that annoying smirk on his face.

“You haven't ordered anything?" He asked after I didn't say anything again. I'm only trying to rein in the words that threatened to come out again because of Vincent's plan.

He called over a waitress, the one who attended to me at first and was rude. She smiled so brightly while facing Matteo.

“What would you like to have sir?" She asked him.
“Is there anything you'd like to have, Michelle?" Vincent asked me.

“I'm fine with anything." I muttered.
He ordered some things I haven't heard about before, it's not like I'm going to eat it anyways.

She left then I was left alone with Matteo once again.
“So, what do you do?" He asked, trying to start a conversation.

“I work in a private firm.” I answered.
"And how old are you?” He asked again.

I started looking around slightly, checking to see if the person Vincent sent is here already. I don't even know who he was planning on sending.

“Twenty.” I said the first thing that came to my mind.
“You're so young, just how I like them." He muttered in a disgusting voice.

I didn't need to reply him because someone interrupted us. “Well, well, well. If it isn't the infamous Matteo King.”

I looked up to see a lady, she was dressed in a skimpy dress. She faced Vincent directly, it looked as though I'm not even there.

I relaxed on the chair, just watching. I want to see how this plays out.

“And, you're on a date with someone. Hi, are you his girlfriend?” The lady asked, facing me.

“Lydia, what do you want?” Matteo asked her. His face and voice looks so different from what he's been putting on for days now.

“Let me guess, I'm here to take back what belongs to me. We haven't divorced, remember and you're here on a date with another woman.” She said.

“You're married?" I asked.
She turned to face me with a smile on her face, “Yes, sweetheart he is.” She flashed her wedding ring at me.

“Michelle, don't listen to anything she's saying. I filed for a divorce but she didn't sign it." He said in a rushed tone.

“Oh, she's Michelle, like the Michelle Brown? The lady who you ripped her family into believing you gave them money to fly their son when it's the government who sponsored the treatment?”

My heart raced tremendously at what she just said. “You didn't borrow us the money?"

"He didn't, he's just so good at deceiving people. I'll advice you to run as as fast as you can now. He's not who he's painting himself to be.”

We've managed to garner so much attention that everyone in the room was looking at us.

I took that as my own cue to leave, but not without telling him a piece of my mind. “F*ck you, Matteo!”, I said.

People in the restaurant watched me as I leave, I put up an angry facade like I'm meant to since I'm posing as his girlfriend.

The moment I got outside, I heaved a sigh of relief as a smile came up on my face. I paused the recording i had put on since the beginning of the ‘date’.

I forwarded the recording to Vincent directly after which I ordered a cab. It's so late and it's very chilly out here.

My phone tinged, signalling that a message came in. I knew it was Vincent even before I checked it.

‘You’re done there already?’
‘Yes, I'm waiting for a cab.’ I texted back.

‘I’m around the corner, I'll be with you in five minutes.’ He texted.

‘Oh, I ordered a cab already though…’
‘Cancel it, I'm here already.’ He typed.

He's just so authoritative, I canceled the cab then I tipped the driver who's also almost here.

A families car pulled up before me and a honk sounded, making me walk towards the car.

I opened the passenger's door and got in, his cologne filtered into my nostrils. He didn't stop the car's engine beforehand so he just revved back into the busy road.

“He's still in there with his wife?" He asked.
“Yes, i didn't know it was his wife that was coming." I said.

"I did say it was a surprise right? Good thing is that she also wants revenge from him. She knows almost everything about him so it's a plus.” He said.

The interior of his car is just so sleek and smooth that I didn't feel anything while the car was moving. It was only the moving cars outside that gave it away that it was really moving.

“Thank you for this, you don't know what this means for me. My parents really believed him and was hell bent on making me marry him since they believe he borrowed then the money.” I muttered, staring ahead.

“You would have married him?” He asked, glancing at me for a moment before he focused on the road again.

“There’s more to what the money was used for than you know.” I mumbled.

The main reason I was feeling miserable since last night is because of what the money was used for. The fact that it was used for Nate's treatment made me feel even more vulnerable.

“What could be more important than getting married to someone you don't know?” He questioned me.

“It's complicated. I was really going to look for other ways, but the only option was paying his money which is just too much to be paid at the time he told me to.”

He turned into the street that led to my house. He didn't even ask, the rest of the drive was quiet as he dropped me in the front of my house.

“Thanks for the ride, and the help with Matteo." I said while holding the car's door.

"You're welcome. Goodnight." He replied with a gentle smile on his face.
