Chapter 33

“Hey, you're here early." Evelyn said as she sat down beside me on one of the long benches in the cafeteria.

“You're just late." I smiled a little bit and she gave me a fake gasp.

“Oops! I'm sorry I'm late in that case, for keeping you waiting rather." She dramatically stood up again, giving me a pointed look.

"What do you want? I'm going over to get our food.” She chirped, taking her card out of her bag.

I sighed tiredly, "I'm okay with anything.” Eating nowadays is a hassle for me as my appetite has been on tbe bad side and i just can't seem to get hungry for anything in particular.

“Okay then, I'll just surprise you." She said, sashaying away.

I watched as other employees filed into the dining hall, my eyes were glued to my phone immediately after Evelyn left.

I don't even want to make eye contact with anyone currently, I just really need to be somewhere alone and I'd have done just that but I've been turning Evelyn down for too long.

“I’m back!” Michelle almost yelled as she dumped a plate of food on my table. She sat down too and put the bubblegum she was chewing on a tissue paper she brought out of her bag.

“Thank you." I said to her as I put away my phone and opened up the lid.

The mixed aroma of cinnamon and honey wafted into my nostrils. I'm not a fan of sweet things, but this does smell nice and I can't resist.

“This smells really good." I moaned, closing my eyes as I got lost in the sugary goodness.

"I know you'd love it. It's my lucky charm, it'll definitely cheer you up." She grinned with a mouth full of sandwich.

I smiled genuinely at her as I dug into the food, I took the first bite and it was safe to say that I was sold. I moaned in ecstacy at how the sugary taste immediately exploded on my tongue.

I didn't even know when I finished everything on the plate till i was left wondering how something could taste that good and also finish that quickly.

“I can see you enjoyed it." Evelyn said with her eyes fixated on mine, she looked like she has been watching me since I started eating.

“It's delicious. What's the name by the way?" I asked her.

She looked like she was thinking about it at first before she clicked her teeth, “Uh, no. You'd have to squeeze it out of me."

“But why?" It's time to leave now as lunchtime is over already.

"Because, it needs to remain anonymous.” She smirked.
Her happiness today is just something I don't understand, she looks so happy that it's so obvious that something is up with her.

She went to dump the recyclable plates in the bin and dumped the tissue from earlier into the other one. She put her left hand around my shoulder as we both walk out of dining room.

“Did you take anything unusual today, Evelyn?" I asked her when I couldn't keep it in anymore.

“Maybe, just maybe I'm a little bit overdosed on love.” She song said.

"You're in love? With who? Is it someone I know?” I bombarded her with questions.

“It's kind of someone you know. I'm only crushing on him though, I don't even think he notices me." Her voice simmered down from the lovesick one to a sad one.

"You can't be so sure, besides you're a lovable person, I don't see anything to not love about you.” I said in an attempt to cheer her up.

“I hope so, I really like him. It's just crazy how I don't even know him that well and I'm this crazy over him already.” She chuckled.

“I guess that's what love does to someone."
We're currently walking the long hallway, we still have like five minutes before lunch break is officially over.

“Enough about me, you're hiding something from me, I'm very sure it's a man.”

My heart missed a beat at that question, why did my brain immediately register Vincent when she asked that question?

“Uh, there's no man anywhere." My anxiety rose up even more, Vincent and I aren't even anything, why am I feeling so nervous?

"Are you so sure about that? How you get angry and happy simultaneously after and before you clean his office says otherwise.”

My heart literally jumped out of my chest, my eyes widened simultaneously in shock and surprise. How did she even know about that?

“How h-ow did you know about that?” I stuttered.

“It's not that hard to find out seriously, I only needed to study you for two days to know that something is fishy between you and Vin-" I covered her mouth before she could talk further.

“Shush! Anyone can hear you now!” I cautioned her with my hand still on her mouth.

She clawed at my hand to let go and I released my hold on her mouth.

“Okay, okay, I'm not saying anything again. But promise me that you'll tell me everything about it later.” She said with her eyes blazing into mine.

“There’s nothing to talk about, seriously. It's nothing, I promise you.”

Who do I even want to tell her? That we've been playing hide and sick like fools for months now?.

“Okay then, watch me scream it out loud for everyone to hear.” She threatened with a daring look on her face.

“You wouldn't.”
"I told you.” She smirked and turned around.

"Everyone! I have an interesting news! The C-” I had covered her mouth before she could say anything further.

“What are you doing?" I hissed as I dragged her away.
The few people she has managed to gather were looking at us weirdly.

“I'm telling everyone like I said you would if you don't promise to tell me everything that has been happening between the both of you." She shrugged.

"Fine, I'll tell you after work.” I sighed.
"Yay!” She squealed and jumped on me as though she didn't just blackmail me.

What am I going to do with her?
