Chapter 54: Stop being stubborn

I pressed the clothe harder to her forehead, Michelle let out a loud sneeze, her body shook slightly at the impact. I took the clothe that was now cold off her forehead.

“What's wrong with her?" Liam asked as he walked over to me, his eyes on Michelle.

The cop used that time to interrupt us, making Liam look at me while my own attention was on Michelle.

“We need to get one or two words from you before we leave." He said. I looked up to see that the other men were taking Rex and the other guys out of the house already with handcuffs on their hands.

"What do you need?” I asked him.
"What did they do?" He asked, bringing out a notepad and pen from his back pocket.

“Assault. The one you brought in is my security guard, he and those boys manhandled her.” I replied him simply, taking back my attention to her.

I heard retracing footsteps and the door being closed, leaving me alone with Liam.

Her forehead had deep lines on them, her hands moved up to her face and her eyes eventually opened. A groan escaped her mouth as she opened her eyes at first.

“Welcome back." I found myself saying, she turned to look at me and tried to sit up almost immediately.

"No, you need to rest your back more, you're only going to hurt yourself more if you sit up.” I said, making her lay down back.

Confusion came up on her face instantly, she craned her neck to look upwards when she heard Liam coughed. He gave her a little smile and she smiled back at him.

Right, they went to the ball together yesterday, though that was the least thing on my mind at the moment.

“I think the doctor's here." I broke the silence when the doorbell rang, my phone rang simultaneously, making me walk towards the door.

I opened it up to see Christopher, I moved sideways so he could come in and closed the door behind us.

Michelle was sutting up by the time I turned around to look at them. I just know she's not going to lay there when there are people in here this way.

“Is she the one I'm checking?” Christopher asked as he rummaged through the bag in his hand, he took out few things from it then look up again.

“Yes.” I replied.
"No.” Michelle said at the same time.

She had a defiant look on her face as she tried to stand up from the couch but fell back down on it immediately. Her hand went to her face, it looked like she was trying to steady herself.

“Careful."
"Okay, it looks like she's cold. You need to step back so I can check her over.”

I didn't even notice that I had moved incredibly closer to her till Christopher said that.

“No, I'm okay. I just need to rest, I'll get going now." Michelle countered as she took her hand off her face again.

"Nonsense, you look like you'd pass out any moment from now, you need a lot of resting, and maybe some drugs.” Liam butted in.

He only seemed to make her mad because she grounded her teeth against the other in anger.

“I'm the one who knows my body and I know what I want and do not want.” She said through gritted teeth.

I was about to talk but had to go over to steady her when she stood up to show that she was okay, she would have hit the floor if I didn't wrap my arms around her waist.

“If you think I'll let you leave this way, you're wrong. Just calm down and let him check you over." I said close to her ear.

“Thank you, but I need to leave now, I'm fine on my own.” She said again, trying to get me to lessen my hold on her. Even her voice was shaky, she was shivering a bit too.

“No, Michelle. I'd be damned if I let you go in this condition. Stop f*cking being stubborn and calm down for once." I said through gritted teeth too.

“Let me g- ouch.” She let out as she tried to turn to look at me, my hold on her was still very tight.

I just guided her back to the couch, only just realizing again that we weren't the only ones in the room, Christopher and Liam just stated wordlessly as i forced her into the couch.

She couldn't argue any further after the sharp pain she felt from earlier, relaxing a bit inti the couch instead. Christopher then stepped forward with a thermometer in his hand.

He used all sort of things he brought with him on her then placed one in her mouth while he wrote something on his book.

He took the stuff from her mouth then closed his notebook.
“She has the cold, did you sleep on the bare ground recently or you stayed in cold water for too long?" He asked.

My fists balled up at that question, it should have been Rex that I pummel my fists at, he deserves to have his face redesigned a lot.

"Yes.” Michelle responded simply.
"That should be the reason. I'll write some drugs for you now, you only need to take them in the morning and evening.” Christopher said as he wrote down more things on his note.

"Okay, can I leave now?” She asked with a tone of urgency in her voice.

“Here you go. And I'll advise that you abstain from anything stressful for now, you need to rest well.” He added.

"Okay, I guess I'm allowed to leave now then.” She swayed a bit as she stood up but I caught her in my arms.

“I'll take you home." The urgency in her voice since she woke up could only mean that had something urgent to attend to st home.

I took the note from Christopher, he started packing up immediately. “Can we leave now?" Michelle asked again when I didn't make the move to leave.

"Let's go then.”
