Chapter 19

Vincent had a forlorn look on his face, “What do you mean by that?” I asked.

"Life is a really shitty place, you know." He replied.
I was still so confused, “Not for rich people though." I added.

That made him snap his head to me, “And why do you think so?"

“When there is money, half of y'all's life problem is solved. There's no way you can compare it to how it treats those without money.” I replied him, shrugging.

"You really think people with money don't have life problems too?" He asked.

“I didn't say that, you just can't compare it to that of people who lack what's used as a measure of success in life now."

He scoffed, facing me fully now. "You can't say that, it's what the whole society thinks of rich people that's the main issue now."

“Imagine a life where everyone you meet only wants to get close to you because of your position, that's not even the probkem. It's not like I care about that, everyone can go f*ck themselves.” He replied.

“It’s really tough, but still can't be compared to the struggles of those without influence or money.” I said.

"You're so hard to convince, do you know that?" He asked.

"I get that a lot. One of the reasons I'm aspiring to be a lawyer.” I chuckled.

He glanced at me with a smirk on the corner of his lips, "It would definitely fit you. When do you plan on going to college?" He asked.

"Soon, I think. It depends on a lot of things right now. I just hope everything goes well, my plans and aspirations.”

"Interesting."

He went back to looking at the sky with his hands back in his pocket. “What made you say what you said earlier?" I asked him.

“What was that?" He asked.
“The life being shitty and all." I replied.

“Oh, something happened on my way here. I didn't think I was going to meet you here actually. This is your first night here?" He asked, rushing out the words.

"Yes, this is my first night here, what about you?”
“It's not. I come here frequently, there's just something about this place that calms someone down.” He mumbled.

"Yeah…"

“I have to go now. There's still something important I need to do before going home, I only thought to come here for a while.” He said.

"Oh..” I trailed off again.
"Yeah, goodnight. See you at the office tomorrow.” He said before stepping away from me.

He was still in my eyes sight when I saw a movement in the other side of the house.

"Ahhhh!” I yelled, running towards him with full speed.

Vincent turned around before I even got to him. The sight was so scary, it was way different from when Vincent appeared earlier.

I jumped on him without thinking twice, i clung to him like a second skin.

“What happened?” He asked.

I was breathing heavily in his arms with my eyes closed. Vincent turned around with me in his arms, probably checking what made me act that way.

“Michelle?" He called me.
I opened my eyes, looking around to see that I was facing the direction of the figure I saw earlier.

“It’s over there.” I panted.
"Where?”

"That thing, someone is watching us.” I whispered.
"I don't understand you, Michelle. Who is watching us?” He asked.

I got off his arm but was almost shaking, “that place." I pointed in the direction of the figure.

He turned towards the place then turned to face me back. “That's not a person." He stated.

“How are you so sure? They're currently looking at us." I whispered as though I didn't want any other person to hear us.

"That's not a person, Michelle.” He repeated.
"It is, can't you see the body and the eyes? It's so obvious."

I wonder why they haven't moved since I've been saying that though, they're still so static.

“I'll just go check it out then." He moved away from them and wanted to leave me there but I followed him. I'm definitely not sayying there alone.

“Let's just leave, what if they're armed?" I asked, dragging him back.

"You really need to calm down, even if it's a person, they can't do nothing to us.” He replied without stopping.

When we were about to get there, my legs were practically shaking out of fear but he kept on walking so I had to follow.

“See, I told you. It's a tree. One of the children must have left their clothes on it which made it so obvious.” Vincent said when he got there.

I looked over his shoulder to see that it's actually a tree. That was when I calmed down, my shoulders slumped back in relief.

“Sorry for stressing you." I mumbled.
He chuckled in response at first, "It's nothing, you should leave now too, there's no one in sight anymore.” He replied.

"Sure, i wasn't planning on staying here alone. I'm also leaving.”

He nodded and we both walked towards the entrance of the park where his car was parked.

“Hop in, let me drop you off.” He said.
"My house is just down the street, thank you.” I smiled.

“I know where you live, Michelle.” He said with an eyebrow raised.

Seeing as he wasn't relenting, I got into his car and he got into the driver's seat too. He started the engine and drove slowly towards my house.

Almost immediately he started driving, his phone started ringing, he ignored it after seeing who was calling, the call came again and he accepted the call with voice control.

“What do you want this time?” He asked in an entirely different voice.

The person spoke for some seconds then he interrupted, "No, I'm not going on a date with her." He said.

He scoffed after the person replied again, “You're seriously asking me that? What even gave you the audacity to think you can command me on what to do with my life?"

He turned into my street. “Oh, a mother who only sneaked her way back into her son's life when he became successful?"
