Chapter 20 - Change of Mind
I'm back to cleaning Vincent's office, the only difference is that this time, we're on talking terms again.
After the night at the pack with him, the weekend was crazy as I just kept thinking of being at the office today. Hee stopped chatting with me after that day we stopped talking first.
And since then, I also find it hard to be the one to initiate a normal conversation with him again. All through the weekend, my parents avoided me and I also didn't talk to them.
“What are you doing after work today?" Vincent asked me when I was almost done with cleaning.
“Uh, nothing. Why do you ask?" I replied.
“I want to take you somewhere I know is way better than that park." He said.
I took my eyes off the mopping i was doing,
“I see, where's it located?" I asked.
“It’s somewhere around Central Park." He replied.
Central Park is practically the most beautiful place in New York. I've not really been there, only passed through it while going somewhere.
“That sounds good, tonight right?" I asked.
"Yeah, do you want me to pick you up?" He asked.
It's going to be so late at night and I don't think I'd see any cab at that time of the night.
“Yes, please."
“Okay then, it's a plan."
I finished up with cleaning and walked out of his office after conversing a little more with him.
With my cleaning materials and all in my hand, I bumped into Evelyn who was carrying a stack of files in her hand. The files scattered on the ground at the impact.
She looked up to see who it was, and when she saw me, her facial expression on her face changed.
“Hey you there." She smiled at me.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking.” I said as I also bent down to help her pack the files.
“It's okay." She replied as we both started packing the files.
They were kind of many so it took quite a while but we soon finished picking them up.
“Where were you rushing to? Did I just see you smile out of the CEO’s office?” She asked.
"Was I smiling? It has nothing to do with him, I'm just happy on my own.” I rushed out the words.
Evelyn looked at me with doubt on her face, “Okay…” she trailed off.
"Yes, I was just going downstairs to drop these then finish up with the other works, where are you going?” I asked her, trying to cover up for the smiling stuff.
“To the CEO's office, I have to drop these files for him. Pray I don't come out crying out of fear, I'll be on my way now." she said.
She ran towards Vincent's office, leaving me alone there. I wanted to tell her that he isn't that tough, but I had to hold myself back.
~
Excitement thrummed through me as I packed up to go home for the day. I've finished up with work for a while now but everyone has to wait till the closing hours before going home.
I felt the sudden urge to pee and I hastened up with what I was doing. I ran to the staff's toilet to ease myself.
Luckily for me, not every stall was occupied so I entered one and did my business. After I was done, i got out of the stall to see another person outside where we washed our hands.
I ignored who it was and did my own business as there are a number of people I don't even know in the building normally.
“You know, you're a very beautiful lady for your face to be soiled up.” The person said.
I looked up from washing my hands to see a very familiar face. She had a bright red lipstick on and her breasts were practically popping out of the clothes she had on.
“Valerie." I said.
Her face is now something I come across every three days and I only get reminded of the fact that she's still so obsessed with Vincent each time.
“You know my name, nice one. I came here to call a truce with you, that's if you'd call it that." She started.
“I know and I've seen how close you seem to be getting with Vincent. You have the voice of choosing between him or your parents." She said,
“I’m not close to Vincent." I denied.
“Really? Care to explain this?” She lifted up her phone to show me a picture on the screen.
It's a picture of Vincent and I together in the park on Friday night. It's taken at the time I jumped on him out of fear.
“What now? You want to deny it again?" She asked.
I couldn't say anything, I just kept staring at her as she lifted up an eyebrow in a questioning stance.
“Look, I know you poor people care a lot about your parents so I know they mean a lot to you. Vincent is mine and mine alone, get out whatever thought you have of him in your head.”
"Guess where he came to after that night, in my arms. And we had really long sex, it was so intense. I moaned so much that I started crying, his grunts were so loud, like music to my ears."
“That's just a testament of the fact that he only loves me, he's only using you to pass time.” She concluded.
I swallowed thickly and put on a really hard facade, like I wasn't affected at all by what she said.
“Why are you so insecure that he's cheating on you with me if you're so sure that he loves you so much? I'll advise you to work more on your self confidence instead of accusing people wrongly.” I said.
Anger marred her face as she glared hard at me, “How dare you?” She asked as she stepped closer to me.
“I was only giving you a piece of advice, you know, as woman to woman." I replied, keeping a calm front.
“Well then, maybe you don't value the life of your work friend, Evelyn.” She smirked evily.
