Chapter 28: Query

“Liam?" I said, though the word sounded more like a question.

“The one and only, what are you doing here anyways?" He asked, staring at me with one of his eyebrows raised in a questioning stance.

“I wasn't doing anything, I was about to knock, yeah." I rushed out the words such that anyone who knew me would know I'm lying.

Liam really looked like he doesn't believe me too, the look on his face says it all but he didn't say any other thing on it.

“Are you the new secretary, by the way?" I asked him.
“Well, yes."

That only means Vincent already sent away the former lady. Funny how I don't even know her name up till now.

“That’s nice, I'll just get going.” I said to him as I almost ran off before he could say any other thing. I really need to start cleaning now if I want to get my work done fast.

I stopped before the elevator before deciding against it, getting flashbacks from yesterday alone made it really bad as I felt as though I'd get a repeat of yesterday.

“This isn't going to be fun." I muttered to myself as I started descending the stairs. I was basically alone on the staircase before I got downstairs.

I had to catch my breath and rest on the wall when I got downstairs. People who passed by started looking at me weirdly.

I'd also look at any one who does it too, it's still so early and one random person is leaning on the wall catching her breath.

I forced myself to go towards the store where I was headed to before Vincent came over to drag me with a little bit of difficulty as my legs were aching badly too.

My heart almost jumped out of my chest when I saw a figure I wasn't expecting resting on the wall with crossed arms over the other.

“You finally decided to show up today, huh?” It's none other than my supervisor.

“Good morning Mrs Davis." I said instead.

She only glared and clenched her jaw, “Come with me," she dragged me by the arm and out of the room.

My breath hitched in my throat as I realized that she was dragging me towards the elevator. Not the elevator again.

I forcefully stopped us both before she could get there, making her swivel around with anger in her eyes.

“I can't… go in there.” I stuttered.
"Trust me you are.”

Before I knew it, she had pushed me into the elevator and had come in behind me.

I was frozen when I got in there and I couldn't move or say anything. When the elevator started moving, I felt as though my heart was going to jump out and I felt down while gripping my chest.

“Oh quit the acts, I'm never going to fall for it." I heard Mrs Davis say, her voice sounded so distant though she was right beside me.

I gripped my head as I felt more nauseous with how the elevator moved. The flashbacks from that day came into my head, how dark the whole elevator was and how the lights flickered on and off.

“Get up, we're here." I heard her snap.

I couldn't even move my body as it looks like all the air I couldn't get in all though the time the elevator was moving made me feel weaker.

I felt her hand on me and she made me stand up herself, dragging me out of the elevator.

“What's wrong with her?" I heard a familiar voice ask after she dragged me with her for a while.

“Oh no, we're fine. I need to see the CEO, is he less busy now?"

“I'll just check for you."
Now that I'm out of the elevator, I'm able to breathe properly and see a little bit clearly now.

I detached myself from her and stood alone though I was still wavering a bit too.

“I knew you were pretending so you wouldn't come with me, I'm going to report you to him anyways." Mrs Davis said.

“Hey bud, someone is here to see you, are you free?"
What Liam said made me whip my head in his direction immediately, even Mrs Davis gasped.

“Okay, I'll just let them in." He dropped the call and looked at both of us.

"He's free, just go in.” He said, pointing at the door.

That was all Mrs needed to start walking in the direction of the door, she almost forgot that I came with her till she got to the door.

“You're coming in with me." She wanted to drag me like before but I moved out of the way before she could do that.

“I can walk." I said while seething. She rolled her eyes and opened the door anyway.

Vincent was behind his desk when we got in. He lifted up his head as we got in. His face was blank as she stared at Mrs Davis then me.

“Knocking before entering a room is a common courtesy anyone should know." He said with that cold look on his face.

"I'm very sorry for that, she opened the door and I presumed that you had told her to come in.” Mrs Davis said.

I gasped at how smoothly she lied, the sound made both her and Vincent look at me.

“Is anything the problem?"
“Yes, I didn't open the door, you did." I said plainly while looking into her eyes.

Before she could reply to me, Vincent cut in. “Are you both about to fight in here?"

“What? No sir, I was only trying to reprimand her. I came here because of her too." She said,

"You came here to report an employee to me? What happened to the human resources department?” He asked her as his eyes bored into hers.

“What did she do by the way?" He added.
"She missed work yesterday without calling in and came late today too. She hasn't been serious since the day she started working here too.

“Well then, you can leave. I'll handle the rest." Vincent told her, pointing at the door.

She was reluctant to leave at first but with one final look at Vincent, she left.

“You lied to me."
