Chapter Twenty-Nine
"Morgan."
"Morgan!"
"Morgan! You have to stay focused!"
Breathing heavily, I turned towards what sounded like Brina's voice. I looked around the training room, yet there wasn't anyone else here but me. I walk over to my gym bag and grab a towel. I start wiping the sweat off my face, grabbing my phone to see if she had called. Nothing. No texts, no calls. I dial her number.
"I'm sorry, the subscriber you are trying to reach is not accepting calls at this time. Please try your call again later. Goodbye."
*'What the fuck Brina!'* I scowled internally, throwing my phone into my gym back. *'Where the fuck are you?!'*
I go back to the punching bag, continuing my exercise before practicing the use of my powers. My mind is all over the place. I shake my head, trying to shake all the unneccessary thoughts out of my head. I throw a punch, forcing the punching bag to swing forward and back.
*SMACK*
"Ouch." I grab my nose, checking to see if it's bleeding. "Ugh, I can't focus!" I throw myself back, landing on the gym pads that Brina and I had laid down. I undo the straps to my workout gloves. "This is pointless. What's the point in training if I can't focus on strengthening myself?" I roll over on my side.
"Focus Morgan. Come on, you can do it." Brina's voice which is slightly louder now. I sit up, looking around. "Morgan, you can do it! Clear your mind. Just like we practiced. You're stronger than this. You can do this, Morgan. I have faith in you."
I stand up, brushing myself off. I tighten the gloves once again, facing the punching bag. "Keep talking to me Brina. Come on, keep talking. I need your advice. I need your strength."
I punch the punching bag again. This time, I keep punching. I'm focusing on my hits, my kicks, the way the bag sways in front of me. "We're doing this for our family. We're doing this for our family." I chant to myself. I say the same thing over and over again. I keep going. My muscles are screaming, sweat is dripping from my body. I keep puching and kicking, punching and kicking. Each hit harder than the last. I throw one last punch, forcing the bag to disconnect from the rope and hitting the other side of the room with so much force the whole room echoed.
Breathing heavily and wiping the sweat from my forehead, I stand up straight. I can feel myself getting stronger. I feel the fire in me starting to swarm. I smile outwardly.
"Time to practice." I grip my hands into fists causing fire to errupt into my palms. Without burning the gloves, I temper the fire to stay above the gloves, but remain in my hands.
"Focus Morgan. Focus on the fire. Focus on the feeling of the power you hold in your hand." I use the breathing techniques Brina taught me when we had first started this. I close my eyes, focusing on the power in my hands. "Nothing can control you. No one can take this feeling away. No one-"
*CRASH*
I open my eyes, losing the fire in my hands. *'What the hell was that noise?'*
I make my way to the door, all the hairs on my body standing at full attention. A shiver courses through my body, the worse feeling possible coming to light in the pit of my stomach.
*CRASH. CRASH*
I run to the door this time, throwing it open and making my way out of the training room. All the lights in the secret room are out. The growing feeling of fear is starting to course through my veins. Something definitely isn't right.
"Mark..?" I whisper into the darkness. No answer. I stick closest to the wall, my heart racing at an enormous speed. I breathe in deeply and shakily, trying to calm all the nerves in my body from keeping my body from shaking. "Mark?" I try whispering again.
"Mark is not here, Princess." The voice was cold, dull and menacing. I froze midstep against the wall. Shivers started running down my body, causing my legs to falter. "Won't you come open the door for your guest? This enchantment you annoying pests set has caused me quite the issue to retrieve you." He laughs, banging at the door.
My eyes grow wide. *'No, how can this be? No one should have been able to find this room. The barrier? Mark?'* I shook my head, breathing deeply. *'Morgan, snap out of it. You have got to be strong right now. We'll worry about all that later, right now, you need to focus on the enemy at hand. This is what you've spent the last few weeks training for. Come on, Morgan. You've got this.'* I nod to myself. I make my way down the stairs, as quietly as possible.
"Oh Princess, won't you please let me in? It would make my job a lot more easier if you would just LET ME THE FUCK IN! Believe me, Princess, my patience is wearing thin at this moment." He demanded, banging more on the door.
Fully adjusted to the darkness, my eyes can see everything in the room. I make my way to a wall that's hidden in a corner, but with a clear view of the entrance to the secret room. *'Come on, think. What can I use to distract this guy to make my escape? I have no idea what the hell I'm dealing with right now, but the fact that he made it pass the barrier means he is no small feat.'* I look around the room. I see the table and chairs, the couches, the bookshelves, everything that I could use to block this guy and give me a clear enough gap to get out of here. The it hit me. I start to use my telekinesis to reorganize all the furniture around the room, as quietly and quickly as I possibly could.
"Princess, I will give you to the count of three. If this door isn't opened by three, I will make you pay with your life. You're destroying my patience." His voice louder and angrier than before.
Sweat beads are forming on my forehead, just a little more time.
*BANG* "ONE."
*'Just a little bit more.'* I thought to myself as I was placing the last few pieces in their place.
*BANG* "TWO."
*'Almost got it. Come on, Morgan, you can do this. We have to figure out where Mark is at.'*
*BANG* "THREE."
I remove the seal from the door, forcing it to fly open, just as I set the last piece of furniture in place. I see a shadow run straight into the newly set couch, crashing into it so hard the couch moved five feet. I heard him groan for a second, before I hear him crash into the other couch I had strategically placed around the area I figured he would crash around. I slowly started to make my way to the door. I keep my eyes on the shadow, glancing in the direction towards the door, making sure my path is cleared to freedom.
"You little bitch!" He spats out, jerking his head in every direction to try to find me. "Now you've made me angry. You want to play hide and seek, we'll play hide and seek. Lets see how long you can hide for, you little bitch." I saw his arm make it's way to his nose. Slowly and steadily, I make my way to the door.
*CRASH*
*'Fuck!'* I glanced towards the shadow's direction. *'Stupid vase in the worst possible spot it can be.'*
"Ah, so you think you can make a break towards the door. Tsk Tsk Morgan. I thought you wanted to play with me. Well, looks like I get to rip you to shreds now that I know where you're at." He lunges at me as I lunge myself towards the open door, crouching as lowly as I possibly could. I hear him hit the wall with such force, it felt like the whole house shook from the connection. I crawl my way towards the door. *'Only a few more feet! I got to go quickly and quietly. I can do this. I can do this. I can escape.'*
"Oh Morgan! Don't you want to know what happened to your precious Mark?" I felt the shadow hovering near me, as I slink towards the wall. I watched him walk towards the door, closing it so gently. Hearing the lock click, I knew we were both locked in the secret room. "Now that the doors closed, what's your next ingenious plan? I will admit, you're smarter than I thought you were going to be, Princess. Shall we see how long you can last against me? I heard about your powers, I want to see them in action."
*'Well, fuck. Mark, where are you?'*
