Chapter Forty
*Morgans POV*
*You're next Morgan*
I felt my face pale. I looked to Mark, his eyes drifting between black and those beautiful, cobalt blue eyes. His wolf was trying to take control. His whole body was shaking in rage. I could feel the rage vibrating off him in waves. I squeezed his hand with all my might, thinking that I could calm him down, but it didn't work. He released my hand, rushing towards the woods. I barely saw him shift, as he took off, barrelling through the woods. A piercing howl ripped through the air, my heart clenching at the sound. I couldn't utter a single word.
"Luna?" The warrior closed the space between us, resting his hand on my shoulder. "Luna?"
I barely glanced up at the man. He had a soft expression on his face. "Yes?" I croaked.
"I will not let harm come to you, I hope you know that. None of us will. We will fight and we will win." I simply nodded my head at his acknowledgment of the situation at hand. He squeeze my shoulder gently, as if trying to calm me down. "Come, lets get back to the others. I don't feel quite safe with us two being the only ones in an open area. Alpha will come back, just let him get his anger out." I nodded again.
We both turned to head towards the other pack members when James and Sabrina came rushing out of the tree line. The warrior and James's eyes were glazed over as if talking through each other over mindlink. Before either of us could say anything, the warrior released my shoulder, turning towards the area where Mark disappeared into. He started walking away, without a goodbye.
"Wait!" I yelled after him. He paused midstep, turning his head towards me, a questioning look forming on his face. "I-I-I didn't get to ask you your name!"
A smile crossed his face. Shaking his head, he turned back towards me and bowed. "My name is Nathaniel, Luna. I'm honored to serve you."
"Nathaniel, please take care of him." I whispered softly, resting a hand on his shoulder. His body froze for just a moment, before relaxing. He stood to his full height, bowed his head, and once again, heading towards the direction Mark took off in.
"Show me." James's voice cut through the silence. I nodded, turning back towards one of the buildings we had just come from, Sabrina following in tow. I glanced back at her, confusion written all over her face. I gave her a sad smile, before turning towards the building the blood was smeared on. Sabrina gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. James was next to her, barely keeping his composure.
"I guess, I'm next, huh?" I half-jokingly spurred out, trying to lighten the most darkest mood I have ever been faced with. They both scowled at me, obviously thinking it wasn't very funny. I didn't either.
"They've got something up their sleeve, but we don't know what it is." A very recognizable voice was behind us. We all turned to come face-to-face with Meg and her mate. Meg walked up to me, quickly giving me a hug. "Our recon didn't go as planned." She released her hold around me, taking a step back.
"They had this planned out. Once they saw us leave, somehow or another they blocked our mindlink to each other. We couldn't get through to you. Next thing we know, one of the guards told us that they saw your car barrelling down the driveway. We knew something wasn't right. Instantly, Meg knew it was a trap. She was finally able to cut in through the mindlink to signal out Mark. They are toying with us!" Her mate punched the wall next to him. I jumped a little at the force, mostly because I wasn't expecting it. He instantly drew back, apology written all over his face.
"I'm sorry, Morgan. I didn't mean to startle you."
"It's okay. Really, I wasn't expecting the force of it. Troy, wasn't it?"
"Yes! I'm surprised you remembered, we didn't exactly meet under the best of circumstances." Images from that day that Troy and another he-wolf were brought into Megs house fluttered into my mind.
"I suppose you're right." I smiled at him.
"What are we going to do about Mark?" Sabrina spoke for the first time since we had gathered in this little group of ours. Troy and James both laughed. Meg just shook her head.
"Let him be. He needs to cool his wolf down. Understand that he is an Alpha, and this" Meg gestured to the wall, "is a death threat against our Luna. His wolf doesn't take too kindly to any threat, let alone against his mate. His wolf is extremely protective and territorial. It's only fair we give him time to cool down."
I nodded at Meg. "You're right. We need to come up with our next plan of action. We need to come together and discuss all the recon missions you did. We should go back to the house. We have a secret room for these types of meetings underneath the house. There's only one entrance and exit. Sabrina and I are the only ones that can get in."
"You mean like where your bedrooms are? Raymond was able to break through to there." James pointed out.
Sabrina shook her head. "No, this one is more solid. The spell had to be redone and Morgan wasn't strong enough to do it on her own. It was dwindling. I was going to help her reinforce it when I got back that day. I wasn't expecting someone to have already found it though."
"We need to keep everything under wraps for the time being. They already know where we live, so keeping a close eye out on our surroundings would be beneficial. We need to be doubly prepared for another attack. Come, lets head back. Can one of you mindlink Mark and tell him the plan?" I looked to James and Troy. They nodded and their eyes glazed over.
"Meg, theres something I need you to do for me." I turned to look at Meg, her eyes meeting mine. Our stances rigid, as if we both knew what the other was thinking. She nodded before I could say anything, kissed Troys cheek with a smile and took off towards her house.
She knew exactly what I needed before I said anything. It was from the recon mission before the first attack on her house had happened. There was something in those files we all needed to see, and only her and I knew exactly what it should be, if they had it. Troy looked at the fleeting figure of his mate, before turning back to me.
"Come on, Luna, let's get you to the other pack members. They will need a friendly and warming presence right now." I nodded at him, leading the way towards the other pack members.
