Chapter Fifty-Five
"No. My.. My mother died in a car crash! We identified her as best we could!" I screamed at him. I lost all motivation to stand, and fell crashing to the floor. My leg finally giving out on me as the pain encompassed me.
"Oh no, I killed her. You see, we can make any corpse look like someone else. We have that capability. The moment I saw you, I knew what I was going to do with you. But for now, your fight is all gone. As much as I would love to take you now, you just wouldn't be any fun until you've fully healed from all those broken bones you have." The man shook his head. Sticking one hand in his pocket, he waved the other in the air before turning around and walking towards the back of the house. "I will just have to come and collect you when you've healed. So, don't die in the meantime. Okay Morgan? I want my fun with you before I kill you. Tootah-loo!"
Watcing him walk away from me, I became angry. I tried moving to chase him; however, my leg was not giving in to my demands. The fire wall behind me slowly disappeared into nothingness. A few of the pack members rushed to me, fearing the worst. Mark was the first one to my side. Looking me up and down, he picked me up and carried me to the room. The entire time he was walking, he was giving instructions to everyone. They either had to clean the dead bodies, or tend to the ones that were downstairs still. Sabrina and Meg were both at Marks side, asking me a million questions to what had happened. I looked at them thoughtlessly, my brain ceasing function from the pain I was in.
Meg set my leg, hoping that I would heal quickly. Mark pecked me on my cheek and took off towards the pack. He said he had wanted to make sure that everyone was okay and the wounded were being treated. I nodded at him to leave, Meg following closely behind. Sabrina and I were the only ones left in the room.
"What happened?" Sabrina's voice was small. "Why didn't you destroy the firewall?"
I looked at her oddly. I didn't even think that I could. "Honestly, I don't know. That man - his energy - he was different than anyone else we've come across. He was terrifying, Sabrina." My throat hoarse from all the yelling I had done during the battle.
"Mark heard you." Sabrina spoke softly. I looked at her quizically. *'What was she talking about?'*
"What-"
"You aren't anyones. We all heard it. Mark is furious with you. You didn't even claim him." Sabrina's eyes met mine. Dumbfounded, I lowered my eyes to my hands.
"He's seriously mad about that? I didn't mean it the way it came out." I threaded my fingers between each other. Looking up at Sabrina, I was shocked.
"You're going to have to explain that to him. The energy he was radiating off was intense. You could have removed the wall. We would have saved you."
"The man spared me Sabrina, for now. He killed mom." I deadpanned. Sabrina's eyes got wide as she looked at me.
"What did you-"
"You heard correct. He burned her at the stake in that village. He wrote on the wall. He did all of it. His power is unlike anyone we've come across. I didn't remove the wall because I didn't know if I would have been strong enough to do it. His power, his aura, everything about this man is dangerous and extremely powerful. We are going to have to watch our backs more closely, and really start on training. Tomorrow, I want to have a full briefing with the pack. I want to get everything out in the open and I want training schedules created. We're going to have a hell of time and this is just the start."
"Morgan, what do you plan to do?" Sabrina's worry was adamant. She knew I was going to be up to something, and yet I had no idea what.
"Sabrina, we have training we need to do. Set a schedule for us. See if auntie can help. We need all the help we can get, even from those who are forbidden to come back." I had to reach out to dad. I have to tell him the truth. I'm 80% positive he knows what happened, but I need to hear his voice. I need to hear his voice.
"Well for the time being, you need to rest and heal. I managed the break as much as I could. With our regenerative blood, it may take a few days before anything to happen. You're going to be in a lot of pain."
"I'll handle it." I stated matter-of-factly.
"You're definitely stronger than you give yourself credit for. One of these days, we'll exceed even that man."
"Hopefully sooner rather than later." We both giggled. We needed that laughter, even if it felt forced.
"Morgan?" Sabrina's voice was still small.
"Yeah?" I watch her movements. Her body is shaking, her temperment is low. She's terrified.
"Do you know if he killed my dad?"
I shook my head. "I'm not sure. We're going to find out what happened to John. I promise." I grabbed her hand and squeezed it in mine. Everything was still swimming in circles in my head. I couldn't understand why this was happening. What was the purpose of all this? And why are we the target?
"I need to speak to Morgan, alone." Marks voice was quiet, resentful, and pained. His sudden presence made both Sabrina and I jump. Sabrina gave me a look of worriment, and I nodded at her that it was okay. She squeezed my hand. Getting up, she nodded at Mark and walked out the door to find her own mate.
"Before you say anything, I have something I need to say." I spoke quickly, not giving him the chance to go off on his tangent. "Earlier, when I said I wasn't anyones, I did not mean it. That man, his aura alone, I had to speak quickly and fast. He already knows we're mates. He knows that I'm yours. I swear I didn't mean anything by it. You're mine and -"
"That's enough, Morgan." Marks voice had a hint of finality to it. I instantly stop talking and look at him. His eyes are staring at the floor, his breathing eratic. "I know how you meant it, but it doesn't change anything."
"What, what do you mean it doesn't change anything? Mark, what's-"
"I, Mark Alpha of Rogues, Reject you Morgan Klinsing as my mate and future Luna of this pack."
