Chapter Thirty-Eight

*Morgan's POV*

*'Why is this happening to us?'*

I glanced around, wolves and beasts fought hard. Sabrina was using her full force in an attempt to help. She teleported near me with ease, scaring me half to death.

"WHAT ARE YOU JUST STANDING HERE FOR?!" She hollered. She shook my shoulders, just realizing the tears streaming down my face. Her expression mimiced mine.

I shook my head. "We're not going to win this."

Before I could comprehend what was going on, I felt a burning sensation flash across my cheek. Sabrina's hand held high in the air. She smacked me! Her eyes turned to slits as she glared at me.

"Don't you dare give up yet. Keep fighting. This is a battle in a war we are sure to win! Get your ass together, you're stronger than this." With that she was gone. The burning from her slap stayed, waking my mind up. I gently touched the place where she had laid her hand on me. Never once had Sabrina hit me like that. I shook my head fervorishly, she was right. I was being weak. I looked around, once again, seeing all these wolves fighting. They weren't just fighting for me or Mark, they were fighting to protect those that they loved. Jonathon being one of those people. A vicious growl erupted behind me. I turned towards the sound quickly, just in time to see a beast rushing towards my direction.

*'Damn it, Morgan! Pull yourself together!'* I screamed internallly. The beast got too close for comfort, swiping its claws in my direction. On instinct, I bent backwards, nearly dodging the claws. *'It's your time to shine, give it everything you've got!'*

I laid my palms undearneath me, lifting my legs to catapult myself backwards, kicking the beast in the jaw on the way. Moving into a backwards somersault, I flipped my body backwards to land on my feet, fully facing the beast. He growled at me, teeth baring. A flick of my wrist and I had created a fire whip in my hand. I whipped furiously at the beast, barely missing as he continued to dodge every move I made. His moves were calculated and I could make out that he was predicting my next attack. Each whip I made towards him, created a loud bang. The beast charged at me again, just barely dodging him as I cartwheeled my way around him, landing perfectly on my feet. With a quick flick of my wrist, a fireball launched itself from my hand. The beast kept dodging each attack, crouching lower to the ground, jumping from side to side. I breathed out a fit of frustration. *'Fuck! I can't even land a hit on this thing.'* To say this thing was fast, would not even begin to compare to the meaning. It was like he had superhuman speed or something relatively close.

For a brief moment, all of Sabrina's teachings hit me like the strong winds of a hurricane. I closed my eyes, allowing myself the edge I needed so desperately to get ahead in this fight. I felt the wind surround me, the ground moving quickly beneath me. I had to become one with nature. I wasn't quite strong enough to wield the powers I needed, but damn sure was going to try anything at this point. Assuming the beast took this opportunity to attack, I waited paitiently, eyes still closed. I outstretched my hand, a growl rippling through the sound barrier. This was too close for comfort, and my lack of experience was not helping in this matter. I stood as still as possible, breathing deeply. The only thing I could feel was the energy pulsing through me. This was my one shot, I had to make it count. Earth shattering strikes hit the ground as I could feel the beast getting closer and closer. It was as if time slowed down.

I relinquished the fires from my hands, standing as still as possible, waiting for the perfect time to strike. I was trying to calculate the exact moment the beast would strike. Within seconds, I flung my eye lids open. Seeing the creature just inches from me, I slashed my palms towards the ground. All the force I could muster to throw my body down towards the ground, I hit the ground with both palms, kneeling against the ground and willing it to shoot up in a vain attempt to stop this attack. As soon as I hit the ground, large, dirtfilled spikes shot up into the air colliding with the beast, piercing through his head and chest. Its arm was outstretched, claws just barely within reach of my face. *'One down.'* I saw blood dripping to the ground in front of me. I glanced to my side, seeing wolves beaten and bloodied, continuing to fight against the aggressor. I stood up quickly, clapping my hands together as hard as I could. I could see the large, invisible circles quickly accelerate towards the intended targets, hitting and throwing the beasts back with such force. Several were sent flying into trees, large branches piercing through their abdomens. Others were sent spiraling into the air and away from the wolves.

Glancing quickly, I noticed the ground litered with dead bodies from both sides. A menancing growl ripped through the air. All the fighting ceased in that moment. Rooted to my spot, unable to move, I turned my head to see Marks wolf crash onto the ground, sliding a good five yards from Nico. Nicos beast was covered in blood, remnants of claw marks covering his face. Teeth marks could be seen near his throat. I rushed over to Marks wolf, listening to the whimpers of my mate as he tried to stand tall. Nico's eyes landed on mine, a brief contact made. I stood up straight, once Mark lifted himself to his feet, and stood proudly beside him. Several wolves and Sabrina made their way to our sides, several jumping in front of Mark as if to protect him with their lives. Sabrina rushed to my side, grabbing my hand in hers. I snuck a glance from the corner of my eye at her, she nodded in sync with me. We both knew what we had to do.

Sabrina and I started chanting, the wind around us increasing tenfold, casting all who tried coming close away from us. The howls of the wind were frightening, at best. I squeezed Sabrina's hand tighter, her returning the simple action. Fear rolled off of us in waves, there was no doubt about it. We were terrified, but we fought the way we could figure out.

Making eye contact with Nico, I watched him shift back to his normal self. He smirked, clipped his fingers together and he disappeared into thin air. The wind around us started dying down, Sabrina and I no longer chanting. We were beyond confused, or at least I was. Once the wind completely disbursed, many wolves took off to shift back. Mark limped into the woods, a grey wolf walking along side him.

"Is that-?"

"Yup, that's James."

"Why do you think he disappeared like that?"

"I'm not sure." Sabrina's eyebrows furrowed on her face, confusion and distraught written all over. "Come," she shook her heard of all thoughts she was thinking, "we need to burn the dead bodies."

I nodded. Turning on our heels, we faced opposite of each other. So many dead, it was overwhelming. "Just the beasts, lets figure out what Mark wants to do about his warriors."

Although she couldn't see me, I nodded silently. They died protecting us. As I walked further along the battlefield, burning the beasts bodies as I trudged along, I noticed two wolves limping towards me.

"Meg!" I instantly recognized her wolf. The wolf raised her head, cocking it to the side. As I approached her, she growled a warning growl at me. "Let me help, please." She eyed me up and down, sniffing the air around us. Her ears perked up quickly. She nudged the wolf next to her, who looked exhausted beyond belief. I walked closely to the other wolf, I guess was her mate, and helped walk them to the clearing we were just at. I saw Mark, in all his shirtless glory, ordering different wolves with instructions. Making sure Megs mate was okay to finish the walk, I bolted towards Mark. Jumping into his arms seemlessly, throwing my arms around his neck, I kissed him with everything I had. He returned the kiss with so much love and passion, it radiated off him in waves. He pulled back, reluctantly, for us to catch our breath. I glanced out the corner of my eye, seeing James rush up to Sabrina. I smiled inwardly. She deserved happiness.
