Chapter Thirty-Six
*Marks POV*
"Your sisters in danger." The words echoed through out the room. Silence soon followed. The air thick with rising tension.
"What?" I roared, leeping up from the bed, barely uncovering a very naked Morgan. I threw on a pair of shorts, marching over to James and grabbing him by his shirt. He didn't wince or flinch at me, just stared me down with an eyebrow cocked.
"What the fuck do you mean she's in danger?! How do you know this?" I bellowed, all my authority reeking havoc on the air around us. James should have been an alpha, he would never submit on instinct, but he did bare his neck to show he respected me when I was angry.
"I mean I just got word from one of the guys that something happened and we need to rush over there quickly." James stated matter-of-factly. I glanced behind me to see Morgan scurrying to grab her clothes and bolt for the bathroom, a sheet completely wrapped around her nakedness. "By the way Mark," I turn back to look James in the eye. His eyebrows wiggled, "way to go my man." I shoved him back, rolling my eyes in the process.
"You can't tell me you and Sabrina didn't have sex yet."
"Dude! What kind of man do you take me for?" James feigned hurt as dramatically as he could. I rolled my eyes.
"A manwhore, thats what."
"You weaken me." He placed a hand over his heart and shot me a look of disdain. Morgan came out of the bathroom shortly after, her face red as a cherry. She cleared her throat, nodding to the door for us to leave. I walked to the dresser and grabbed a pair of clothes.
"I'll meet you downstairs in five." I gave Morgan a quick kiss and marched to the bathroom, both giggling away before I heard them walk out the bedroom. I tried my absolute best to reach my sister through the mindlink. Nothing was going through. I felt my wolf pacing around, anxious to find out what happened to his sister.
*'You and me both buddy, you and me both.'* I thought to myself.
I met them all at the bottom of the staircase, grabbing Morgan's hand in mine, we made our way out to the hidden hallway. Once we reached the edge of it, James told the girls to stay put while we scowered the area to see if any enemies were waiting in the shadows. When the coast was clear, we called the girls to join us. Morgan and Sabrina walked up, hand in hand, chanting a protection spell for us. It's amazing to see how much they've both grown in such a short amount of time. The power emanating off each of them would bring me to my knees.
"Ready?" I asked once they were done. They both nodded and we rushed outside to my truck. Not realizing the threat looming over us, we made our way to my sisters house on the edge of the territory. When we came within close proximity, both Morgan and Sabrina stiffened. Something was terribly wrong.
I turned to look back at James, his face contorting with confusion and danger all in one. "James, what's going on?"
"I'm unsure."
"Mark, we need to leave. We need to leave RIGHT NOW!" Morgan was practically screaming at me. Before I could react, a voice boomed in my head.
*"Mark! Mark get away from the house! It's a trap!"* Meg! It was Megs voice! I threw the truck into reverse and slammed on the gas. Everyone was shot forward as the truck buckled down the driveway from my sisters house. We didn't make it very far before the truck was thrusted into a tree. Glass was spiralling everywhere. I quickly unbuckled myself, grabbed Morgan from hers and made it out of the truck, same with James. We coddled the girls in our arms as we watched the truck bend against the trunk of the tree, my breathing elevated and my senses heightened.
"Damn! You almost had them." A voice from the tree line spoke menacingly.
"Would have been easier for you to die in the truck, looks like we'll have to do this the hard way." Another voice spoke. We put the girls down and hid them behind us as we turned toward the voices. My fangs elongated and a growl ripped from my lips.
"Easy Alpha-boy. Wouldn't want to scare your mate now, would we?" A dark, sinister laugh echoed around us.
"Mark, I can't get a good reading on where these guys are at." Sabrina's voice low.
"Of course you can't, sweetheart." James turn to growl now. "We're much more powerful than you are." The voice again.
"Behind us!" Sabrina chirped up. We all spun around to see two men standing in front of us. Morgan had quickly put a fire shield around us. Pride filled my chest, watching my mate fight. Damn, she's sexier when she's pissed off, and not pissed off at me too.
"Mark, get your head out of the gutter and focus." Morgan's voice was low and danger laced in every word. The fact she was making an Alpha gulp, made my skin crawl. She's more powerful than I thought.
"Nice magic trick there, gorgeous." The dark haired man joked.
"Nico, stop making jokes. Let's make this quick. Remember, we have to keep the Alpha and his girl alive, the other two we kill." The blonde haired man spoke this time.
"Eli, you always steal my fun." Nico exclaimed. Before my eyes, they were gone in a blink of an eye.
"Morgan, you ready?" Sabrina crouched slightly. Morgan turned her head, smiling and nodding. "Good, you two, stay in the circle and don't you dare come out!" With that, they were both gone in a flash.
Shock flashed mine and James's face. What in the fuck?! Who are these women?
"You fucking bitch!" Nico slammed to the ground in front of the shield, Morgan standing a few inches from him. She was panting and sweating. I took a step forward, her eyes clashing with mine. Warning laced her brown eyes, glancing back down at Nico. Sabrina showed up next to Morgan, Eli's head in her hands. She tossed the severed head to Nico, who still laid on the floor. "Eli!"
"Don't ever fuck with us again." Both girls straightened up. Nico started laughing. I finally sensed the others around us. How did I not sense them?!
"You think we came alone? We knew your powers were growing." Nico stood up, anger lacing his features as he stared down at Eli's severed head. "You'll pay for that." He pointed at Sabrina.
"Morgan, take the shield down now! There's more coming!" I screamed at her. James stood rigid, watching the scene before us unfold.
"Morgan, can you handle this?" Morgan nodded. In an instant, Sabrina was in front of James. She grabbed his hand, and then they were gone. I stared in disbelief that Sabrina would leave Morgan to handle things by herself, while I stood by helplessly, again.
"Morgan! Take the barrier down!" I roared at her. With one wave of her hand, she smiled at Nico. Now it was my turn. I quickly shifted into my wolf form, tackling Nico from behind. Several men burst through the tree lines, all aiming for Morgan. She waved one hand and a new fire shield was surrounding us.
Nico grabbed my ankle, throwing me into a tree, before I had the chance to move. I jumped up, standing by Morgans side, growling as Nico stood to his full height.
"You both couldn't be more stupid. You're never going to escape now."
"Answer me this," Morgans voice was dark, trecherous even, "Why are you attacking us?"
"Because, little bitch, you are exactly what the Council needs to complete the ritual."
"Ritual?" She spoke, her eyes never leaving his. Her demeanour never changed.
"Oh, yes. But why go into details, when you'll both find out soon enough? Take this as your last chance to get your bearings straight, because next time, we'll have you within our grasp." With that, Nico disappeared. I took a look around. Everyone was gone, the forest eerily silent.
"Damn it! I almost had him." She yelled after a few moments of silence. I shifted back, grabbing her and pulling her into my embrace.
"We won this round." I whispered into her hair.
"No, we didn't. We're still surrounded. They're waiting for me to take the barrier down. We're stuck for the time being. Sabrina will be back."
"Why did he disappear like that?"
"He's in the shadows, informing the men of a plan. I read his mind, what the plan is, I'm not entirely sure." Morgans voice quivered a bit.
"Fuck, this is highly pissing me off. How did I not sense them? I can't even smell them!" I growled angrily.
"Because, we're hybrids." With that, my entire world went dark.
