Chapter Thirty-Seven

*Morgans POV*

"Because, we're hybrids."

I turned just in time to see Nico standing with a now unconscious Mark at his feet. *'How the hell did he get past my barrier?!'*

"What the fuck do you want with us?" I screamed at him. All my anger rising to the surface. I sensed a few more presences surrounding the outside of my barrier. *'Shit, we're completely surrounded. Sabrina, where are you?'*

"As I told you, you are needed for the ritual. The both of you are actually." He smirks at me. My blood boils, watching him step over Marks body, just barely kicking his side with the point of his shoe.

"Well, jokes on you. I'm not planning on dying anytime soon." I cross my arms over my chest, bracing for whatever he has to say. Nico smiles devilishly at me, continuing his slow, agonizing pace towards me.

"That's not for you to decide." Nico stops just outside of an arms reach of me. He sniffs the air around me, his eyes turning black for a short minute. Was that lust in his eyes? I glance down, seeing Mark move slightly. "I wouldn't move if I were you, Mark. Wolfsbane is a nasty thing. It's not so incredilous to silver, but it does the trick in weakening Werewolves." He smirks, his eyes never leaving my own. I stay rooted to my spot, adrenaline pulsing through my veins. If only I could wipe that smirk off his face.

"I can see why Raymond took a fancy to you. You're breathtaking. However, you smell of the mutt over there." He scrunches his nose in disgust, seeing me bare the mark of my mate. I raised my head proudly, a wicked smile gracing my lips.

"Oh, so you can smell him. Then you must know what he is exactly." I lick my lips, trying to keep my act up. Mark was beginning to move around more, as silently as he could. I could see Mark glance up at me every few seconds, his eyes shifting to a complete black, at least I know his wolf is coming to the surface.

"Yes, he's an Alpha. I'm not stupid. You see, you're trying to think you can outsmart me, however," he rushes me before I could blink, sending me back on the ground, him straddling my body, "I'm much quicker than you anticipated. Raymond has nothing on me. I was, well still am, his superior in every way. I still owe you and your bitch of a cousin for killing my friend." He grabs a fistful of my hair, slamming my head down into the ground. Black dots start swirling my vision. I shake my head, my arms pinned next to my body under his weight. Trying to wiggle myself free was going to be no easy feet, if it was possible at all. A massive sting shoots through my head. Nico once again rammed my head onto the hard, cold ground. I could feel warmth trickling down the back of my neck. I struggled under his grip, trying to free myself. He laughs at my poor attempt of an escape.

"You think struggling to break free is going to help you? I am not supposed to kill you or the mutt, but they never said anything about killing your cousin." Leaning down to whisper in my ear, I could hear the maliciousness in his voice. The amount of pure, unadulterated evil that lurked in the crevice of the words he spoke. Anger rose through me, quickly.

"Fuck you." I spat at him.

"If you want." He reached his hand back behind him, carressing the inside of my thigh. Pure disgust shown in my eyes, continuing my frail efforts to break away from his grip on my body. I just needed to wave a finger, but I couldn't even manage that. He knew what he was doing. Realization of that fact enveloped me. They were watching us this whole time. "Ah, finally realized that you have no secrets to hide?" His voice dripped with venom. "See, now that you realize that we know all you're tricks, it will be much easier to take you. You can't use any power-"

"Ha, not that you know of!" I waited for the chance that he would let his guard falter just slightly. Catching him completely off guard, I threw my knees into the base of his skull, as hard as I could muster. He released me long enough for me to wave my hand with the quick flick of my wrist, forcing me to teleport right next to Mark. Mark was already on his feet, cracking his neck from side to side. Nico's eyes grew wide for just a moment. Smirking, he stood up in all his cocky glory. He straightened out his suit jacket, before turning to face Mark and I.

"You really want to do this, mutt?"

"More than you realize." Before I knew it, Mark transformed in front of me into his beautiful midnight black wolf. I hadn't seen it since Meg had accompanied me home from the barn. I wanted to reach out and feel his fur underneath my palm. Like he could sense what I was thinking, Mark quickly growled at me, nodding his head towards Nico, never releasing eye contact with Nico. Nico ran his hand through his bright blonde hair, attempting to keep it unruly and messy. I stood there silently, watching the interaction. Nico sighed in annoyance.

"If you want a fight mutt, you're going to get the beating of your life." Before either of us could react, a loud growl ripped through the treeline. Mark's ears perked up, releasing a deafening howl into the air.

"Guess your back up showed up in time to watch you die." I glanced at Nico as I watched his bones start breaking. In a matter of seconds there stood a bright sandy blonde creature. The only way to describe his beast was that of the Werewolves from Underworld. Fear slowly seeping into my bones. Nico's beast was two times larger than Marks.

*"Mark, what are you going to do?"* I thought in my head. Hearing my thoughts, Mark glanced back towards me, winking at me all the while. *'That cheeky bastard has a Ace up his sleeve!'* I nodded. Fully trusting his instincts. Mark bared his teeth, a menacing growl escaped his chest cavity.

Nico was the first to move. He bolted towards Mark in the blink of an eye. Mark barely avoided the attack, just barely. I, being the completely rational person I am, ran from my spot. I ran until I reached the barrier. Another ear piercing howl erupted in the darkness. I could hear fighting all around me.

"Morgan! Take the barrier down!" I heard Sabrina's voice through the chaos. I waved my hand and released the barriers hold. The fire slowly diminshed around us, giving me time to step away from the fight at hand. Wolves and hybrids surrounded us, attacking each other with such ferocity, the thought of it all made my head spin.

*'Why is this happening to us?'*
