56 - Unexpected news
Helena emptied her entire stomach into the toilet.
What was happening to her body? It seemed that the very image in her mind of Sebastian being intimate with Katlyn turned her insides inside out.
She decided to stay inside the cubicle for quite some time, sitting on the floor hugging her legs. What did it matter? She already had the job and she didn't feel like tearing her hair out at her job, she had tried more than once and it hadn't gotten her anywhere good. She was beginning to think that trying hard in life didn't make good things happen.
Finally she returned to her desk, wishing that the door to the presidential office was open and Katlyn had already left. But no, the setting was still locked and murmurs could be heard on the other side.
"If this is going to happen every day I don't know how much longer I'm going to put up with it"- She thought covering her ears.
"Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to go back to the company" She said to herself with disappointment.
"No helena, this is just a challenge, you are stronger than some stupid jealousy".
No sooner had she finished saying that than the door to the presidential office opened, making the redhead jump out of her chair as she pretended to type and not care in the least what had happened behind that door.
Katlyn stepped out, unabashedly rearranging her clothes and with a cruel smile on her face, approached Helena's desk, who pretended not to notice her, staring blankly at the screen.
-Helena, my dear, are you still here? - She laughed mockingly- Haven't you realized that Sebastian is mine and always will be? You can try what you want, but you can never replace what we have.
Helena would have liked to get up from the desk and give him a good thrashing to make him shut that operated mouth for once and for all.
"If you only knew that your whole life of luxury depends on me and my baby!" she thought to herself, but didn't say it, biting her tongue hard.
-I only came here to work-" he sentenced, swallowing the real words.
Katlyn let out a derisive laugh, taking a step back as she reveled in her apparent victory.
With a final look of contempt, Katlyn turned and walked away, leaving Helena with a mixture of pain and anger in her heart.
-Helena...
Sebastian's voice was present.
-What?" she exclaimed without any decorum.
The CEO couldn't blame her, Katlyn's whole childish show had gone too far and he had been unable to stop her, as if that woman was pulling him by invisible strings, he felt terrible, even humiliated by what had happened.
He had approached Helena, not really knowing what to say, just to check on her.
-Do you need something, boss?" he asked casually.
-I... I..." she stammered, waving her hands uncomfortably, "I'll get you a driver to take you home and bring you back every day.
-It won't be necessary...
-I insist. And for this week's checkup as well.
-All right, as you wish- The heir was hurt that the redhead treated him with respect again, as if they had moved away once more- But this time I'd rather go by myself...
-But...
Helena pierced him with her light blue eyes like daggers, feeling the betrayal on the surface of her skin. Sebastian sighed, knowing he had lost this battle.
-All right, whatever you say, Helena. You know you can call me anything.
Helena ignored him, starting to type again.
Sebastian was walking back to his office when he turned around and awkwardly said:
-Thank you for not saying anything.
-Don't think it was for you, I did it for me and my family- he replied dryly.
Sebastian nodded, clenching his fists tightly and locking himself in his office. He wanted to break everything, but he couldn't make a fuss, not with Helena out there. Sebastian knew that his relationship with Katlyn was not what he wanted or what he deserved, but he was also aware of the legal implications of the relationship he had with her.
He feared the consequences that could arise if he confronted Katlyn and pursued his true love with Helena. It could trigger a legal war, damage the reputation of both families, and affect his financial stability.
How could he take care of Helena and her family if Katlyn took everything from him for adultery? He had to be patient and trust in fate.
The week passed without sorrow or glory for the presidential secretary, she was getting used to Katlyn's daily visits to the office and her insults every time she left.
She cared less and less, as if her invisible shield was getting stronger and stronger.
The day of the check-up came and as she had requested, Sebastian didn't even come over to insist on accompanying her to the clinic. A part of her felt sadness as she got into the car alone.
"It's for the best Helena, he is not your husband, he should not accompany you."
-Very good young lady, let's go check on your baby- exclaimed the doctor smiling as she placed the gel on his stomach- And your husband?
-He had a lot of work to do," she smiled uncomfortably.
The woman ran the machine over her belly and the screen turned on, showing again that little being inside her. The redhead's eyes lit up.
-You want to know the sex of the baby?
-Can I already know?" she asked, feeling full of anticipation and nervousness.
-Of course...
As the doctor performed the ultrasound and carefully examined the image on the screen, a heavy silence seemed to flood the room. Helena looked at the woman, searching for answers on her serious and concentrated face.
The doctor finally broke the silence and spoke the words that would change Helena's perception of her future:
"Congratulations, it's a girl."
Those words echoed in her mind like an echo, but instead of the joy and excitement she had imagined, she felt an overwhelming mixture of confusion, disappointment and disappointment.
Helena's heart squeezed tightly in her chest as she tried to take in what she had just heard. Her dreams and expectations vanished, replaced by a sense of bewilderment and deep sadness.
The redhead now felt at a crossroads and panic swept over her. The contract clearly stated that the heir was to be a boy.
"If Sebastian finds out it's a girl he's going to take everything away from you, he won't need you anymore."
"No, I must hide the gender from him, he must believe it's a boy at least until I can sort out my personal problems."
Helena didn't know how she left the clinic and how she got into the car that would take her home, she was stunned, holding her belly possessively.
A part of her kept telling her over and over that she was a failure of a woman, that she couldn't even do that well, but the other part, the part that seemed to grow deeper and deeper inside her, told her that this was a good thing.
A deep relief washed over her.
"If she's a girl she's not going to be like her father" The very idea of raising a child who could be just as ruthless and misogynistic was one of the reasons she dreaded raising him. But now that she knew she was a child and that the Allers would despise her for being one, Helena felt a maternal and protective energy rise from her soul, feeling the need to protect this child at all costs. So that she could have a better life, be loved, be respected and kept away from all evil.
-Yes, I will protect this child no matter what," she murmured with determination.
