89- Now or never
Nooooo!
The shot rang out from the gun, filling the office with the roar.
Sebastian still stood with his eyes tightly closed and breathing shakily from shock, feeling the
air stop entering his lungs.
"Am I dead already?" He wondered as he didn't feel the gunshot to his forehead. "Maybe it
was instantaneous and I didn't feel any pain."
He opened his eyes, first one, then the other. Finding that Alan was not standing right above
him and the first thing he could recognize was the black colored ceiling of his office.
"I'm still alive" he finally thought.
Instinctively he turned to Helena, who was lying on the floor a few feet away from him, in the
same place as always. That was a relief, Alan hadn't taken the redhead.
He wanted to crawl towards her, to try to somehow protect her with his body.
But a whimper behind him stopped him.
The CEO turned over his body, feeling the sharp pain in his shoulder, bringing him back to
the agonizing sensations of the gunshot.
When his black eyes were able to identify where the groan had come from he did not expect
to find Katyln sitting on the floor and against the wall, with a red stripe across her, as if she
had leaned against the wall and then slowly slid down.
-Katlyn!" he shouted loudly, he looked at the blonde's body and couldn't identify at a glance
where she had been shot.
"Had he just saved her life?" It all added up to yes.
It only took him about two more seconds to search with his eyes for the villain on the scene,
but two seconds was a long time when it came to life and death.
Before he knew it Alan was already on top of Katlyn, grabbing her arm and pulling her up as
she screamed in pain.
The CEO could see in the blonde's face the suffering caused by being shaken abruptly with
a bullet wound and a baby on her back that was now in danger for her life.
-Leave her alone Alan!" she shouted, getting up awkwardly from the floor, almost slipping on
her own blood that had made a puddle on the floor. -It's me you want! Leave them to them,
let them go," she almost begged.
Alan pulled Katlyn in front of him and wrapped his arm around the blonde's neck to keep her
from escaping.
-Sebastian...- Katlyn barely managed to say in a thread of a voice, feeling that she could
hardly get any air through.
Sebastian noticed that Alan didn't have the gun, imagining that it could have flown
somewhere in the office when Katlyn defended him, he looked for it with his eyes, finding it
near Helena.
-I know what you're thinking, I recommend you not to do it- warned Alan, stepping back with
Katlyn- If you take one more step towards the gun...- Alan opened the balcony door and a
strong storm wind entered the office, moving Katlyn's hair, who screamed in fear as she felt
the cold of the night and the vertigo, when Alan took two steps over the balcony with her in
his grasp. -I swear I'll throw her over the edge.
Her legs wanted to give out, but Alan's arm kept her standing.
-You'd better go, little brother, leave us alone, you're too much.
-Alan..." exclaimed the CEO, walking away from the gun with his hands in the air, "I'm not
going to take it... you have my word, but let Katlyn go, she needs to be taken to the
emergency room.
Alan laughed, backing away nervously.
-You think I'm an idiot, I'm going to let you take them and turn me in to the police," he said
nervously.
Sebastian looked at the gun.
"It's too far away, if I try to jump on top of the gun it's going to take me a few seconds longer
to aim, plus I might hurt Katlyn, Alan could use her as a shield, But that's if I get to grab the
gun, by that time Alan might do something crazy" He thought nervously, feeling a bead of
sweat slide down his forehead as he realized he didn't know what to do.
The last roar that came from the gun, made Helena's fantasy reality shatter into a thousand
pieces.
And though her mind struggled to hold on to the beautiful memory of her daughter's birth,
she felt the veil of memory slowly fall away, returning to the office.
Her eyes, which were still open staring at a fixed point in the distance, gradually came back
into focus, as if they lit up and regained their brightness, as if she had ceased to be blind.
First she blinked several times, feeling her pupils re-wet and she stopped feeling the burning
in her eyes.
She reconnected with her senses, feeling the coldness of the floor against her naked body,
remembering that she was shirtless and had on that old red bra that had been taken as a
trophy by Alan.
Then she felt the pain in her body, and her naked skin burning where Alan's hands had
touched her body, and his lips and tongue that tasted her without permission.
She felt the panic in her body and wanted to run away from reality again.
But her ears perked up, when a voice both sweet and low at the same time, that had so
made her heart pound so long ago, caught her attention.
"Could it be...?" she thought in her head, feeling afraid of falling for Alan's deception again.
She had really believed in the possibility of seeing her beloved again, as if dead people
could come back to life like in fairy tales.
"Alan...I'm not taking her...you have my word, but let Katlyn go, she needs to be taken to the
ER."
That voice sounded like music to her ears, it made her eyes fill with tears and her heart beat
hard against her chest, as if she had suddenly come back to life.
-Sebastian..." she whispered softly, almost mute.
His light blue eyes moved slowly, trembling with emotion, to the place where the voice had
come from.
At first she saw a dark silhouette, hovering near her in a defensive position.
Gradually she was able to focus better on the man standing there.
It was him... it was her Sebastian.
"Could it be that I'm dead and I can finally be reunited with Sebastian, never to be parted
again?"
"Do you think I'm an idiot, that I'm going to let you take them away and turn me in to the
police?"
Alan's voice threw her off balance.
"If I'm dead, Alan can't be in heaven next to us, he must be in hell" She thought, realizing
that none of the three of them were dead, that they were still in the world of the living, that
she was still in the office where she had met Alan and he had tried to molest her, or else he
had already done it, because in that part her mind was gone.
But now there was Sebastian, the real one, confronting his brother.
Helena's light blue eyes moved to where Alan's voice had come from, meeting the man who
had Katlyn clutched against his body and who seemed on the verge of falling into
unconsciousness.
The redhead simply couldn't put the puzzle together and understand what had happened
while her mind had gone far away, nor did she have the strength to comprehend it, because
of the migraine that was being born from her temples.
He looked at the whole picture, reconstructing the whole picture, realizing that very close to
his feet was a gun.
He almost screamed and rolled away from there, but a little voice in his head told him to take
the gun, and kill that son of a bitch.
"You don't know how to use a gun" she thought in despair.
She moved her eyes back to Sebastian, finding that he too had discovered the gun on the
floor.
Helena felt her body go numb, still, with her last strength, she moved her feet, so that
Sebastian looked into her eyes.
The onyx-black orbs of the one who was the love of her life moved towards his, to finally see
each other again, to reconnect soul with that man, to feel again that love trembling through
their gazes.
Sebastian met the sky-blue eyes of his redhead, which were now full of life, but also of
supplication and terror.
The young CEO did not have time to react to the joy of knowing that Helena had come to her
senses. Because the young woman moved her pupils several times towards the gun, as if
she was telling him something.
Sebastian didn't have to think long to understand what she wanted to tell him.
It was now or never.
He made a gesture to her with his hand, an almost imperceptible movement, which only from
Helena's gaze could be seen, and looked back at his younger brother, checking that he
hadn't noticed that Helena had regained consciousness.
He glanced for a millisecond at Katlyn, who was still breathing agitated and in pain, but who
was also staring at Helena, the blonde had seen the whole sequence.
Sebastian had to take a chance, it was the only option.
-Now..." exclaimed Sebastian, staring at his brother.
-Eh?" said Alan confused.
Helena kicked the gun hard, feeling the burning and tingling in her leg, and it slid towards
Sebastian's feet, who in one deft movement bent down and grabbed the gun in mid-motion,
rising quickly and firing towards Alan, together as Katlyn bit down with all her might on the
arm that held her prisoner, instantly releasing it in a shriek of pain, causing the blonde to fall
to the side on the floor, covering her head as the boom of the gun rang through the office
again.
