CHAPTER 22

CASSIE'S POV:-

I was sitting with Stella and Iris. It had been a long time since we had a tea party. We used to sit together and talk. And that day Stella decided to tell me things about Chris. How he used to behave like a child. I couldn't help but imagine little Chris being naughty. According to Stella, he was his dad's favorite. Whenever he did something that angered Stella, he always hid behind Mr Hunt.

She even showed me his childhood pictures. In a few, he was naked. My cheeks burned seeing his nudes. Iris couldn't stop teasing me after I saw those pictures. It was embarrassing but it was cute as well. I took a few pictures from Stella. My mind gave me a perfect plan to tease Chris. I smiled and hid his nudes in my bag.

As our morning tea party ended my dad came to pick me up. He and I had plans. I bid my goodbyes and stepped out of the mansion. My dad opened his arms like I was a little baby for him. I smiled and ran towards him. Wrapping my arms and legs around him like a little girl, I hugged him tightly. He pecked my cheek and held me tightly.

Cassie: I have missed you so much Dad.

I said with my face buried in the crock of his neck.

David Wolf: I have missed you too, sunshine. How are you?

He asked me and made me sit into his car.

Cassie: I am fine dad. How are you?

I asked as soon as he also hopped into the car.

David Wolf: I'm fine, sunshine.

He replied with a small smile. I hugged his strong arm and smiled, remembering the pet name he always had used for me. He pecked my forehead and drove off.

After an hour or so, he parked his car in front of the Mall and I raised my brow at him.

David Wolf: What? I have rights to give you whatever I want. After all, you'll soon be part of hunts and we won't get chances like this to spend time with each other.

By the time he ended his sentence, his eyes were filled with tears.

Cassie: Dad… I would never let anyone separate us. You and I will always have times like this.

I said and sat into his lap. He quickly wrapped his arms around me and we both cried. I remembered the time when I was moving to New York City. He was all teary eyes and emotional that time as well. I had to bribe him with a lot of my time to convince him to permit me to live in New York City. He broke the huge and wiped my tears.

David Wolf: How many times have I told you not to cry? I can't see tears in your eyes.

He said while tears kept falling from his eyes.

Cassie: You are the one who made me cry today.

I replied and hugged him again like a little girl who had missed her father. We both hopped out of the car and went into the mall. Dad bought me something from almost every shop. I rolled my eyes over his baby heart. I knew if I denied him for anything, he would start crying again. And I would cry as well, because I couldn't see him cry.

I was exhausted with all the shopping. Dad finally took me to the food court when my stomach growled loudly because of the hunger. I looked at dad who raised both of his hands in the air and bowed his head. We both were eating together. I told Dad about whatever Stella had told me about Chris. Dad just couldn't stop laughing at Chris' childhood memories.

After our lunch, dad took me back to the car. He would have dropped me at hunts when I gave him the address to my house. He gave me a confused look then just started driving. When he parked the car in the driveway and looked at the house, his eyes teared up again. He knew I always dreamt of buying a house like this in New York since childhood. I grabbed his hand and pulled him into my house. I showed him every corner of my house.

David Wolf: He is trying so hard to give you everything you had dreamt.

My father said and again he got teary.

David Wolf: Every father prays for his daughter to get a man who would love her more than her father. I guess God had heard my prayers and you got Christopher.

He said. I wiped his tears and hugged him tightly.

Cassie: I know Chris loves me more than he loves himself. But still he can't love me more than you do.

I whispered softly.

David Wolf: Keep one thing in your mind sunshine. No matter what happens, promise me you will always stand by his side. You will do everything to keep him happy. Because I know he would do the same with you.

He asked me softly.

Cassie: I promise you dad. I will.

I replied with a wide smile. He then gave me all the shopping bags. Then he bid his good bye and drove off. I took everything into my closet. But I didn't have any strength to open it up. I decided to take a shower. I went to the bathroom and peeled my clothes off. I hopped into the hot shower. I moaned as the hot water hit my body. I washed my body and stepped out of the shower. I wrapped a towel around my body and went into the closet. I changed into my comfy clothes. I picked a tank top with ripped jeans. I exited the closet and picked up my mobile. Just then I heard the door being unlocked. I smiled as I knew it would be Chris. I unlocked my mobile and read all unread messages. I froze when I read the last unread message in the list. It was Chris' text

"Chris: I think we should take a break. Or maybe we should separate our ways. I think Mom was right. We would never work together."

As soon as I read the text, Chris stepped into the room. He and I both were just staring at each other. My eyes welled up. I couldn't believe it. Everything was fine between us till morning. Then what had happened so bad that he told me to separate our ways. His eyes were puffy. "Was he crying? But why? I should be the one crying because he broke up with me." I thought as I walked closer to him. He raised a hand to stop me in the middle of the way.

Chris: Didn't you read my text? I told you that we can't be together.

He said but didn't look into my eyes.

Cassie: But why? Everything was fine in the morning then what happened now?

I asked in a pleading tone.

Chris: Nothing happened. I just don't feel the same for you.

He replied. He wasn't looking at me. I knew he was hiding something. I went to him, turned him to face me and grabbed his collar.

Cassie: What does that suppose to mean?

I asked angrily. He aggressively made me let go of his collar.

Chris: That means it's over. Pack your stuff and leave. I don't want to see your face again in my life.

He said and went to the bathroom. He shut the door with a loud thud. Tears blurred my vision as those words played again and again in my mind. Sobbing hard, I stepped out of the room and ran towards the main door. Just as I was crossing the living room, I saw an envelope on the table. I went to it and opened it. My heart sank into the pit of my stomach as I read the papers into the envelope. It was Chris' test results. And in the end I read the name of the disease "CANCER." I quickly pulled my mobile out of my pocket and took pictures of the results. Then I put them all back into the envelope and exited the house. I knew the doctor who was treating him. I saw his signed proscription papers. And I knew where to find him.
