CHAPTER 40
CHRIS' POV:-
I was sitting in the office of my school. I had a lot of unfinished work. So I was speeding up. I also had to take care of my schedules. As one night, I went home late and found Cassie sleeping on the couch. She slept on the couch while waiting for me. And because of that, I earned an amazing scolding session by both of my parents. My mom even told me that if anything like that ever happened again, she would kick me out of the mansion.
We were living in my parents' mansion. My dad said it would be better that Cassie would be around people whom she would feel safe around. I could not just deny because I had something like that in my mind as well. She joined the work again. My father was the one who took the responsibility to take her to the office and bring her back home. He said as part of the family, he has some responsibilities as well. He finally accepted the reality that I would never get myself to take over his business. So he decided to give it to Iris whenever he would retire.
My phone started ringing and I picked up the call without reading the name.
Chris: Christopher Hunt. How can I help you?
I asked.
Detective Dean: Mr Hunt. We have something important to discuss. Where can I meet you?
I heard detective Dean's voice. I looked at the clock and frowned because I had piles of work in front of me and only three hours left.
Chris: You can come to my office. We will not be disturbed at all.
I replied. He said okay and hung up. He did not even tell me what was so important he wanted to talk about. I shrugged my shoulders and called Miss Polly.
Miss Polly: Mr Hunt, you called me?
She asked as she peeked her head through the door. I nodded my head and signalled her to come in. She stepped into my office and stood in front of my desk.
Chris: Detective Dean will be here to talk to me. Show him my office and please make sure, no one would disturb us.
I said and she nodded her head. She excused herself and I again busied myself into my work. About half an hour later, I heard a knock on my office door. I looked up and found detective Dean standing. I stood up and invited him in. He came in and we shook hands. I sat back on my seat and signalled him to sit down as well.
Chris: What would you like to have, detective?
I asked him and he shook his head.
Detective Dean: Nothing, Mr Hunt. Thank you. I just came to discuss a serious matter with you. I thought it would be better to tell you instead of agent Wolf or agent Lu.
He replied and I frowned seeing his all serious face and a hint of worry in his face.
Chris: Tell me, what is it?
I asked him in a worried tone.
Detective Dean: Have you known of the reason why Mrs Wolf has been visiting jail to meet Mr Black and the kidnappers who had kidnapped Mrs Hunt?
He asked me and I frowned even more.
Chris: Mrs Wolf? You must have gotten the wrong news. She did not even come to our wedding. She did not come when her daughter was in the coma. Why would she be here now?
I asked and he wrapped his arms above his chest.
Detective Dean: How about you ask agent Wolf? He would know if his wife is in Brooklyn.
He asked me and I sighed. I nodded my head and dialled agent Wolf. He picked up on the third bell. I put the phone on speaker so detective Dean would be able to hear our conversation as well.
Chris: Hi, agent Wolf. I wanted to ask if your wife told you about her visit to Brooklyn. Did she tell you anything?
I asked him and he chuckled loudly hearing my question.
David Wolf: Christy can do anything but to visit Brooklyn to meet Cassie. Trust me. She will never come here.
He replied in a humorous tone. I looked at detective Dean with an annoyed look on my face and he shook his head.
Chris: Okay, thanks. That was all I needed to know. I thought I saw her.
I replied and hung up. I looked at Detective Dean who was searching something on his phone.
Detective Dean: But I have proof that she is in Brooklyn. It's weird that Agent Wolf doesn't know that his wife is in New York.
Detective Dean said and kept searching for something inside his s phone. I frowned because I did not understand what he was talking about.
Chris: What kind of proof are you talking about? Are you sure it was Mrs Wolf?
I asked detective Dean in a serious tone.
Detective Dean: I have confirmed it three times with my colleagues. I have CCTV footage and pictures of agent Wolf's wife visiting the jail cell. She visited every time to meet Mr Black and all the kidnappers. This is not just a coincidence. If it's this bad that she did not visit her daughter while she was fighting for her life and also on her big day, then why is she here now? And for what reason she is visiting only jail and not even agent Wolf knows why she is here, or if she is here?
Detective Dean replied and handed me his phone. I looked at the screen and it was true. It was Cassie's mother. I had seen her in photos only. She had never visited Cassie in all these years she had spent into Brooklyn.
Chris: It would be better if we keep this between us. I will try to find if Cassie knows anything. While you find everything you can about her and her visits to the jail. Let's keep it a secret until we know everything.
I replied while giving him his phone back. He nodded his head.
Detective Dean: I will try to find everything about her. I have to check her background as well. I need to be sure of everything. If you allow me, I will check her relationship with your wife, as well.
He asked me and I nodded my head.
Chris: Anything you need. I just want this to work out in the end. Cassie is trying hard to fight. I want her to win this fight.
I replied and he nodded his head. We shook our hands and he stepped out of my office, leaving me alone with everything he had told me.
