CHAPTER 44

CASSIE'S POV:-


I was sitting on a bench in the courtroom. I was very nervous. My palms were sweaty due to the nervousness. Chris went away to talk to detective Dean in private. My father was sitting beside me. Hendrick's parents entered the courtroom and his father smirked while looking at my face. It made me think if Hendrick was up to something new. My phone beeped with a text message. I pulled my phone out of my clutch and checked the message.


Norie: I am not there with you. But don't think of yourself alone. I am with you. Don't give up, Cassandra. You can do it. You can fight him. Don't forget, you are on the right path. You are just trying to save whatever you have worked hard to build again. Don't let him destroy you again. Instead, destroy him this time. I will eagerly be waiting for your reply. And I know it will be good news. Good luck and stay strong.


I smiled reading her text. She was really a nice person. And again her words made me feel stronger. I put my phone back into my clutch and my father held my hand. I looked at him and gave him a smile. He pecked the back of my hand.


David Wolf: Stay strong, sunshine. You can do it. I am with you. I will not let anyone hurt you.


He said and I nodded my head.


Christy: Dav, she is not a baby who needs to be cooed. Let her be. She will be fine.


I heard my mother's voice and I turned around. I stood up and hugged her tightly. She lightly patted my head a few times then broke the hug.


David Wolf: I wonder what brought you here, Christy? As I can remember, you said you don't have time to waste for Cassie's mellow drama.


My father taunted my mom and I shook my head. It was like they could not talk without fighting each other. But to my surprise, mom did not say anything to dad. She just rolled her eyes then sat beside my dad. Mr Hunt, Iris and Stella came. Stella gritted her teeth as she saw Black family sitting like Hendrick was an innocent man. She came to me and pecked my forehead. She sat beside me and grabbed my hand.


Stella: Just a few more days. You can do this.


She said and I pecked the back of her hand. She was really an ideal mother. Chris came back with anger evident on his face. He sat beside me and wrapped his arms around me. Like he was protecting me from someone who wanted to harm me.

The judge entered the courtroom and we all stood up. He sat down and signalled us to sit down as well. He signalled the police to bring Hendrick Black. My heart started drumming inside my rib cage. I started taking deep breaths to calm my nerves. I wanted it to be finished so I could live my life peacefully. Stella squeezed my hand a bit to assure me that I was not alone.


They brought Hendrick into the courtroom. Detective Dean took him straight to the witness box. As he stepped into the witness box, he looked at me for a good minute. It was like I could see guilt and regression in his eyes. I would have believed what I saw in his eyes if it was not Hendrick Black. He was a monster and I knew he still was not feeling any regressions for what he did to me.


Honorable Judge: Everyone is here. Let's start the process. We have Mrs Cassandra Hunt who has accused Mr Hendrick Black for kidnapping her and abusing her sexually. Let's begin with our first witness.


The judge announced and I hugged Chris' arm tightly. He pecked my forehead but did not push me away. He knew I needed him.


Hendrick Black: Before you start, can I say something? I mean, you will ask me if I have anything to say, in the end. Why not in the beginning?


Hendrick Black asked the honorable Judge and I shivered. I just could not understand what he was up to. The honorable Judge signalled him to say whatever he had to say and I held my breath. I knew he would defame me so he could torture me even more. He turned to look at me but his smile was not on his face anymore.


Hendrick Black: I still don't understand why in hell this court asked to proceed if I had committed that sin. You all have men who have testified. I, Hendrick Black. Yes, I am the one who paid Jo and his gang to abduct Cassandra. And I was the one who abused her sexually. I tortured her for months. Whatever Jo and his gang have said, it's all true. Now let's end it right here. I am a criminal. And I am telling you that all those proofs against me are real.


My eyes almost popped out of its sockets when I heard Hendrick Black telling the truth. I thought he would defame me saying that I was a slut or something. But instead, he just accepted everything he had done. I looked around and found everyone as shocked as I was. His father stood up and tried to say something but Hendrick held his hand high to shush his father.


Hendrick Black: I know what you want to say, father. But I can't do that. I can't defame her. I am not like you. Or at least I am trying not to be like you.


He said and his father gritted his teeth. He sat back down on his bench and Hendrick turned to look at the Judge.


Hendrick Black: I am telling the truth. And I do not have any hidden agenda. I have committed a sin and I have to be punished. I am not saying anything under any kind of pressure. And whatever my lawyer has given you, it's all a lie. People who testified in my favor, they were paid by my father. I also accept the fact that I tried to kill her twice. So I am accused for attempt to murder as well.

He replied and the Judge looked at me.


Honorable Judge: Mrs Hunt, do you agree with everything Mr Black just said?


He asked me and I nodded my head.


Cassie: Yes, he is telling the truth.


I replied and he hummed. He then started writing something on the file of the case. He then looked up and wrapped his arms on the table.


Honorable Judge: According to Mr Black's statement and Mrs Hunt's accusations, Mr Hendrick Black is found guilty. The witnesses have testified in front of me and the honorable court. The abductors and the police. He abducted, tortured, sexually abused and attempted to kill Mrs Cassandra Hunt. And for all his crimes and according to the laws of our country, Mr Hendrick Black will spend the rest of his life in jail. Mrs Cassandra Hunt, you can now live your life in peace as Mr Black will no longer be around to hurt you anymore or your family.


The Judge ordered and I thanked God. Finally, everything was fine. I felt like I was a bird who had finally escaped the cage. The police cuffed Hendrick Black and was taking him away when he stopped in his tracks in front of me.
