Chapter 41

**Elise**

So many people have theories about what happens when you die. Some think you see a bright light, or that you see your life flash through your mind until the last breath, and others say you transcend and wait to be reincarnated into a new life.

Well, I didn't experience any of those things. It felt like falling asleep. Heavy but peaceful.

But then there was light...and sounds. Beeping and people talking.

My body feels heavy but I can feel it. I crack my eyes open slightly and am slightly blinded by the overhead lights. They're so bright, but with a few blinks the shock of it wears off.

"We can take a look but it might be too soon to know-"

"Do it."

Ezra?

Who is he talking to?

I move my eyes down from the light and see familiar people around me. Well, their backs are to me but I could recognize my guys with far less.

"Maybe we should wait-"

"No. We need to be sure the baby is okay. Now." Weston says, his voice tight.

Baby?

"Of course."

The woman seems to leave and I watch all of my guys sag like the whole world is on their shoulders.

"So serious..." I say weakly.

My voice is rough and weak but it's enough to get their attention. All their eyes snap at me and they move as one until they are standing next to me.

"Shit baby, you gave a scare," Weston says grabbing my hand and holding it gently.

"Sorry." I push through the soreness of my throat.

Archer turns around and when he turns back he has a cup in his hand. He leans over to put the straw inside it to my lips. I take a sip and it feels amazing against the burn in my throat.

"It's alright love. We can talk about that later." Ezra says resting his hand on my foot.

I shake my head. "No, I need to tell you something."

They look at me confused, but I'm not sure if this can wait.

"The necklace you gave me. The one with the tracking device in it." My throat burns the more I talk but with a few more sips of water, I push myself to continue. "When Kane tried to grab me. I remembered what you told me. I slipped it into his pocket."

I breathe hard and a shot of pain makes me groan.

"I'll get the nurse," Archer says before rushing out of the room.

"You left your necklace on Kane? Love if you weren't hurt right now I would kiss you and then punish you. What were you thinking? Why did you leave the house?" Ezra's voice isn't harsh but I still feel terrible.

"Nothing you guys did seemed to help find him, but I knew if I tried to bait him he would come. He told me that he...he said he found the Omega traffickers who had me...he killed them all." My words as slow and it feels almost hard to talk.

Each time I breathe it takes far too much effort.

"Rest," Weston says gruffly but I shake my head again.

"He took the Omegas who survived. He said he was going to move them. You have to find him." Another shot of pain hits hard and I gasp.

"We're not leaving you," Weston says firmly and crosses his hand over his chest.

"Then send the guys. Anyone! They can be moving them now. Please, Ezra." I plead. "I don't want any more Omegas to get hurt."

We keep our eyes locked on each other and I see the moment he gives in.

"Okay, I'll go-"

"No, you won't." My eyes snap to the door and I see Liddy standing there with her Alphas behind her.

"Hey, guys." I give them a weak smile and tears fall down Liddy's face

She pushes past the guys and wraps her arms around me. "Don't you dare scare me like that again. If you weren't already hurt I would kick your butt."

I laugh and then groan when it makes my stomach hurt.

"Sorry. Now you boys are not going anywhere. I am sending my guys, except for Scott. The rest of them will handle this." She nods at them.

The guys say a quick goodbye to my guys and promise to keep them posted before each kissing Liddy and leaving.

The room goes quiet but I notice everyone seems a little...off. Before I can ask though Archer is coming back with a doctor.

"Hi, hun. I'm glad to see you awake. Your packmate says you're in some pain. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until the scan is done." He says giving me a reassuring smile.

"Scan? What kind of scan?" He looks around but no one will meet his eyes.

"Oh, I guess no one has told you yet. We ran blood tests before your surgery and one came back positive. You're pregnant. We want to do an ultrasound to check on the baby's condition." He turns around to wave at the nurse waiting outside the room.

She wheels in a machine and everyone moves to make room for her. She sets everything up and then leaves the room again. The doctor types something into the machine and then pulls out a container of gel and squirts it on the lower area of my belly. When he pulled my gown back I was given the view of my bandage. It's on my left side and looks as if it almost missed me. Not sure how because Kane was facing me and I hadn't run away. Maybe he's a bad shot.

Unless he wanted me to bleed out.

The whole room is quiet but everyone is standing behind the doctor waiting. Then something echoes through the room. A rhythmic sound.

"That's the baby's heartbeat." The doctor says.

Liddy gasps and throws her hands over her mouth. I blink at the doctor in shock.

He makes a confused look. "It's strange. I was told you have not been with your pack long right?" He asks me and I nod. "Well, the baby looks to be about ten weeks along."

My mouth drops open and I look over at the guys.

"I swear-"

"We know. Doctor are you sure?" Ezra asks.

"Yes, the baby looks well formed and its heartbeat is strong. It's a strong one, but too big to only be a couple of weeks old." He is still moving the wand thing over my belly. "Well, now that's interesting."

"What?" I ask hoping he made a mistake.

"There's another pair of legs." He says.

"The baby has two pairs of legs?" Weston asks.

The doctor laughs. "No no. It's twins."

Sawyer nearly chokes in shock and Archer is staring slack-jawed at the screen. Ezra looks calm like always and Weston has wide eyes.

Liddy on the to her hand..."Oh my god, I'm going to be an aunt! Two babies!"

"Wait." The doctor says and we all turn to look at him.

**SEVERAL MONTHS LATER**

"Oh come on. How do they manage to do this every time?" Weston grumbles fighting to get a hand on the dangerous situation.

"I don't think it's them. It's more like you're the one doing it wrong. Let me take over." Sawyer says pushing Weston away.

Well tries to anyway. Weston lets him get by though and Sawyer moves through everything like it's second nature to him.

"See? Easy." Weston narrows his eyes on Weston but Sawyer just smiles proudly and leaves the room.

"You did fine. It takes practice." I say reaching out and giving his hand a squeeze.

He huffs but his face shifts into a smile when he looks down at our next task.

"It's because he spoils her. Now, this little guy is easy. Aren't you little Callum?" He smiles down at our son and the baby coos.

I look down at him and smile. He's so perfect.

A small cry pulls my attention away and I move over to the crib and pick up little Maddie.

"Oh, no one forgot you," I say bouncing her lightly to calm her down.

Yeah, so the doctor said on our first scan that we would be having twins, but when I went into labor we welcomed three babies. It seems little Maddie had been hiding the whole time.

Two girls and one boy.

I thought the guys would be disappointed that they weren't all boys but they adore them all.

"There's my favorite girl." I hear Archer say and I turn to smile at him but his eyes are fixed on Maddie.

"It used to be I was your favorite girl." I pout playfully.

I love how much the guys love our babies.

"You will always be my number one girl." He says leaning over and leaving a kiss on my head.

I let him take Maddie and turn my attention back to Weston who has successfully changed Callum.

"See you did just fine."

"Yeah well, he's easy," Weston says while carefully holding our son.

It took a little while for us to convince him he wouldn't hurt the babies, but he got over that fear a couple of days in. He's a big strong guy but he handles the baby with so much care.

He turns and leaves the nursery and I laugh. The guys barely ever let me hold the babies unless they need to be fed, but I don't mind. I join them downstairs where I'm hit with a bunch of noise.

"Come on. Don't hold him like that. Good gracious what am I going to do with you lot." I hear Liddy say and I smile at the sound of her rebukes.

It turns out that Liddy was pregnant as well when I found out. She was actually farther along but my oddly fast pregnancy had me giving birth only a few weeks after her. She was blessed with a little boy who has as much sass as his mother.

Everyone is moving around the living room and I stand back to watch it all.

I look back on my life before I found these people and wonder if I hadn't gotten away where would I be right now? It's not fun a imagine how bad things could have been for me if I hadn't been resuced by the guys.

Thankfully Liddy's guys were able to follow the tracking device I had slipped into Kane's pocket. They got there just in time. They found him at the pier about to board a cargo ship. A little arm twisting had one of his men revealing the container where the Omegas were being held. Thirty Omegas were rescued that night but several more locations were given up as well.

Over the next couple of weeks, over a hundred Omegas were rescued. The police did a full-on investigation of the local Haven and others in the county. A few housed people working with traffickers. That led the FBI to do a country-wide investigation. Several Havens had to be shut down, but many Omegas found their packs when they were relocated.

One of Kane's men confirmed that the people who had held me and the other Omegas who had taken the special drugs were killed by Kane and his crew. They only spared one scientist and that's how Kane learned more about the rug. he had planned to inject his Omegas with it, but was told it was too deadly to try again.

His plan was to use me, but since I had been bonded the drug had been weakened. At least that's what Liddy found out once I left the hospital. It had continued to weaken over time but was strong enough to help me heal from my injury faster than normal and she thinks it protected the babies as well. Anyway by the time the babies were born I was just like everyone else.

The guys later discovered a mole in their crew. One of the secretaries was not happy when they found out the guys had found an Omega. She offered to help Kane's men and gave herself up when it was obvious she wouldn't receive payment for her help. She's in jail along with all his other men.

Things have slowed since then. The guys spend less time working, but most of their guys pick up the brunt of the work and keep them updated.

This wasn't the kind of life I thought I would ever have, but I was given a miracle and I will never take it for granted.
