Chapter 62

**Declan**


When I finally found the cafeteria I made sure to grab one of everything including a few items from the vending machines. I want to be sure my girl has everything she could possibly want.

"Can I help you with anything else, sir?" The woman checking me out says.

The woman checking me out and my items I should say. Her scent tells me she is a Beta, and maybe at one time I would have found her attention as an opening to rid myself of some tension, now the idea is revolting.

"No," I say simply to her question and hand her enough money to cover the food and leave before she tries again to speak to me.

Maybe I'm being too cold, but I want to get back to Luna as soon as possible. Also, the woman's scent was not pleasing to me at all. I notice several of the women I pass have a similar off-putting effect on me. None of them smell as sweet as luna, and I wonder if I have also hated other scents and simply put up with them to let off steam.

When I walk back into Luna's room the guys laugh when they see the amount of food I brought. I ignore them and place the stuff on the table next to Luna's bed. She looks almost freaked out by the offering but I watch her eyes zero in on a few chocolate bars I grabbed. Milo confirms that she wants the chocolate, so I make quick work of unwrapping them. What the woman from haven said goes through my head and I decide I am going to make an extra effort to spoil my girl, so when she reaches for the bars I pull them back. Instead, I move them close enough for her to take a bite. She blushes at my antics but obliges me by taking a good chunk off the first bar.

Her eyes fall shut as she chews and even though she can't hear the sound she makes as she chews, I can hear it fine and it is one of the sexiest moans I have ever heard. My eyes are fixed on her lips as she chews and I hear Kai curse under his breath. I guess I'm not the only one affected by the sound that escaped Luna's lips.

When she opens her eyes again she smiles up at me and I offer her the chocolate bar again. She takes another bite and a small smile forms on the corner of her lips.

“Holy hell.” I hear Kai grumble and I turn to see the rest of the guys watching Luna. “She can’t keep making those sounds or I’m going to have to take a walk.”

I snort at his playful tone but he isn’t wrong. Luna has no idea the effect she has on us as she happily chews her chocolate. We are her pack and we would protect her with our lives but she is also our Omega and the need to bond with her only grows the more we are around her. All of us are trying to restrain ourselves so that we don’t come on too strong but it is difficult.

I grab Luna a small container that looks like it would hold fruit but has juice inside. I pull back the top just enough for her to drink from it and hand it to her. She smiles at me and takes a few sips before resting her head back again.

“I think she’s still tired,” Milo says and I agree.

It doesn’t take long for her eyes to fall shut again and we take our seats around the room to stay close. There is no way any of us are leaving tonight. After what the woman from Haven said about Luna needing us close, I don’t think any of us will want to leave her side any time soon. I have never been a warm sort of person and cuddling is not my thing but I want to be whatever Luna needs.

I may have not known her long but I can’t deny the surge of emotions that I felt the moment I saw her. It was like everything clicked into place and there is no way I will ruin that.

Bennett returns with the bag of stuff we got for Luna and he and Milo start setting everything up for her. Each of us takes turns picking out a few books for her on the eReader they bought and adding a photo of each of us in her phone.

After that’s done we sit quietly and watch a random chick flick on the tv and wait for Luna to wake up again.

A soft knock comes at the door an hour later and a nurse pops her head in.

“Hi. I need to wake her up and check on her now.” She says softly and we shift around to make room for her.

She gently wakes Luna and checks her over quickly. Once she is happy with the results she slips out. Since Luna’s awake we decide to present her with the new stuff we got her. Her eyes go so wide I can’t help but smile at how cute it makes her look. Her eyes are one of the first things I noticed and even shocked like she is now they are the most captivating thing about her.

She looks to Milo and starts to sign something quickly and looks a little panicked.

“She says it’s too much and she can’t accept it.” He says but before we can say a word he is signing to her.

She sighs and slumps back into the bed with a small pout. The guys chuckle but as soon as Milo tells her about all the new books loaded in her eReader she does a little happy dance. Seriously this girl is adorable.

“Let’s sit her up a bit and try to have her eat something,” Rowan suggests and I turn to pull the table over.

I asked the nurse to bring some dinner-specific items to add to my collection.

Kai is closest to the small remote connected to the bed so he grabs it and begins to raise the back of the bed. A loud squeaking sound rings out making me cringe but I only notice it for a second because Luna suddenly whimpers.

“Stop! You’re hurting her!” I call out and look her over.

Her hands are over her ears and her face is pinched in discomfort.

“Get the nurse!” Milo says and Rowan rushes out of the room.

Milo tried to sign to Luna but she only whimpers in response while keeping her hands tight over her ears.

Something is wrong.

“…we were lifting the bed and then she looked like she was in pain…” Rowan explains to the nurse as they rush back in.

“Okay. Honey? Oh man I forgot.” She tries to get Luna’s attention and when Luna looks at her the nurse tries to carefully pull Luna’s hands away from her ears. “I don’t see any blood or obvious signs of anything. Let me call the doctor.”

She leaves the room and the rest of us stand nervously watching Luna. Her eyes are open but by the expression on her face, she is still in pain. Milo starts to sign to her and it doesn’t take any translation for us to know her ears are hurting her.

“She says there is a loud ringing but it’s getting better now,” Milo explains.

The doctor arrives then and Milo explains to him what Luna said and the doctor takes out a tool to look inside Luna’s ears.

“Luna? Can you hear me?” He asks but she looks at him with confusion.

Milo translates and she shakes her head.

“She can’t hear you,” Milo says and the doctor steps back with a sigh.

“What’s wrong with her doc?” I ask.

“You said she lost her hearing in an accident?” He asks.

“Yes, but we don’t know the full extent of her injuries,” Rowan says.

“I’ll need to see her medical records to get a better idea of what’s going on but if she lost her hearing in an accident then I may know what’s happening.” He starts to say but he hesitates. “I would prefer to see the records before I say more.”

“Please. What could it be? Is she okay?” Bennett nearly begs.

“Well, I’m assuming she endured a head trauma that resulted in her losing her hearing. If that is the case there are times when such injuries can heal completely and the person regains their hearing even in part. As I said though I can’t be sure until I check her records.” He says.

“You mean she could hear again?” Kai asks and I can hear the spark of hope in his voice.

“It has happened but the brain is a tricky thing. We can’t always predict how brain trauma will heal. We can run a hearing test to see if there is anything she can pick up but this may just be a one-time thing.” His words are careful but it doesn’t stop me from feeling a sliver of hope.

If Luna can get her hearing back then that means...she could hear our music.
