Chapter 59
*Luna*
We’ve been at the mall for only about an hour and a half now and I admit I’m ready to go home. The eyes on us as we weave through the crowds of other shoppers is started to put me on edge. It wouldn’t bother me if it was because people recognize the guys, but it seems like all eyes are on me.
I hadn’t noticed it when we first came in but after the confrontation with Declan, I can’t help but feel eyes following me as we move through the large space. I am an unmated Omega in a building with unbonded Alphas, like blood in water swarming with hungry sharks. They can smell that I am unbonded and if they are desperate enough even my guys couldn’t protect me.
This was a mistake.
The guys look like they’re leading me toward a cluster of clothing stores, but there is no way I can stay here any longer with the unease I'm feeling.
Milo has a gentle hold on my hand right now, so I tug on it just hard enough to get his attention. He turns to me and I pull my hand away so that I can sign.
"*I think I'm ready to go home.*" I sign to him.
"*Are you not feeling well?*" He signs back and I shake my head.
"*I'm feeling overwhelmed*," I admit but I feel guilty for complaining and end up biting the corner of my lip in punishment.
He reaches out and brushes his finger along my bottom lip to make me release my hold on it.
"*It's okay. We can go.*" He signs to me with a gentle smile and one more brush to my chin.
He turns to the others and I stand behind him waiting and hoping the others don't get upset with the change in plans.
A hand grabs me suddenly and pulls on me hard making me stumble back. I catch myself and turn to see one of the guys from earlier standing in front of me with a dangerous smile on his face. His mouth starts to move and when I don't respond his already frightening expression turns darker. I try to pull my arm away but he only tightens his hold on me enough for his nails to break the skin. My body jolts at the sudden pain and I reach up to try and tear his hand away.
Instead of letting me go he pulls me close to him and tucks me in close to him. I try to pull away from him and force some kind of sound out in protest, but when I glance around I recognize the other guys he was with have crowded around us. They're all a lot taller than me making it hard for me to see anyone else around us. That means no one can see me either and with how many people are in this place they probably can't hear any sounds I am making. My voice has gone unused for so long that I'm not sure how loud I am. Any sound I make could sound like a whisper and I wouldn't know.
My heart races as I try to figure out a way to get away from this guy. He's a lot bigger than me and his hold on me only gets tighter the further we go.
Milo and the guys have to have noticed I'm gone by now, right?
There is no way for me to tell where they are, so it's up to me to try and get away. The only thing I can think of is when I saw a self-defense video a while back where it showed a woman being grabbed from behind. She let herself go completely limp and that seemed to throw off her attacker enough to let her get away. The only problem here is that the guy holding me is not grabbing me from behind. He has one arm gripping tightly to my arm and the other wrapped around my shoulders. Would the same move work here?
I guess there is only one way to find out. With one deep breath I prepare myself for the possible pain I will feel when I forcibly tear my arm away from the tight nail's deep grip on my arm. I count down in my head and let my legs go weak until the weight of my body pulls me toward the ground. The man holding me stumbles and whoever is behind me nearly steps on me, but I focus on twisting out of my captor's hold.
I tug and twist but he still has a hold on me and he is tightening it even more but I don't stop struggling. Adrenaline has taken over to the point where my eyes can't focus on anything other than pulling myself free. My jaw locks as determination flow through me and I pull as hard as I can. What I didn't consider was that amount of force would send me falling backward and the solid ground being there to cushion my fall.
I hit my head hard as I fall and blink several times trying to get rid of the dots clouding my vision. The headache is intense and fast making me want to close my eyes and hope that the pain will end soon. Instead, I try to push myself off the ground and focus on my surroundings. When my vision clears enough I see faces all around me, but none that I recognize. There are people crowded around me with worried looks and are talking to me but I don't understand them.
I lift my eyes above their heads and try to find one of the guys but there is such a big crowd around me that I can't see anything. Panic is setting in and I know that even though it hasn't been long since I came off suppressants my scent will start to drive the crowd crazy. An anxious Omega is not a good thing and pack or not, people will go into protective mode on instinct. Thankfully I don't sense any Alphas in the crowd around me, but that won't stop them from coming to find me.
**Kai**
Chaos.
Milo had turned away from Luna for only a second and someone grabbed her! Where the hell is she?
"How are we going to find her? We can't just call out her name! She won't hear us!" Declan growls out as we push through the crowd.
"Whoever grabbed her had to be watching us, so just look for anyone you may have noticed near us." I offer but even I know that is less than helpful in a crowd this big.
"Guys! Over there!" Bennett calls out pointing toward the entrance.
I squint my eyes trying to figure out what he's seeing when I spot a sliver of golden hair that gets my attention. There is a crowd of guys walking tightly together but as they move I can spot Luna's hair and top.
"There!" I yell out and take off.
The crowds barely move so I take a tip from the Declan handbook and just push my way through. Something happens and one of the men starts to stumble and break away from the group nearly taking out a few people in the process. When he moves so do the others and I can finally get a good look at Luna as she falls to the ground.
The man who was holding her looks around as some people stop to see if luna is okay. He must see that it would be too risky to try and grab her again and take off for the door with a few guys following him. The crowd around Luna grows and I have to push harder to get through. Finally, I am close enough to see her panicking and looking around.
"Move!" I growl out and several people move to make a path for me.
Luna's eyes land on me and a stray tear falls from her eyes as she struggles to get to her feet. I move quickly and haul her into my arms and hold her as tight as I can against me.
"Kai!" I hear Rowan call and I turn to see him making his way to us.
As soon as he reaches us he pulls Luna from my arms and holds her just as tight as I did.
"Is she hurt?" He asks.
I shake my head. "I don't know, but I think we should get out of here before we try to find out."
He nods and with the crowds parting for us we can get her out the front door.
"Where are the others?" I ask.
"They had gone off to find the guys who grabbed her." He says.
I take out my phone to tell them to forget it but Rowan's panicked voice stops me.
"Luna?" He shakes her a little but her body is limp in his arms.
"Call an ambulance. Now Kai!"
